We booked our accommodation some 10 months ago - so got our room booked at an exceptional price 😉
I'd become apprehensive reading about how poor the soundproofing of the rooms is/how uncomfortable the beds were, but that wasn't our experience at all! When we arrived I specifically asked to have a room which enjoyed the evening sun and we were delighted with the room that was appointed.
It was spacious, very comfortable beds and an incredibly tranquil part of the hotel (room 169).
We particularly enjoyed the internal courtyard of the Palacio where we enjoyed the Pinchos. Wish we'd known in the first instance just how cheap a glass of wine was (3 euros) in order to qualify for a free Pinchos!!

All in all couldn't have imagined staying in better accommodation from which to explore Ávila.

This rather well worn converted Palacio is much more enjoyable and satisfying than sleeker more modern options. We didn’t have a room with views over the town, but rather an internal courtyard but we opened the French doors wide and enjoyed the quiet and the fresh air. The bed was huge and slightly firm, just as we like. The bathroom was generous in size and the shower strength was strong with plenty of hot water. There is a large wardrobe to hang your clothes and an OK TV. But best of all were the two adjoining roofed courtyards on the ground floor. The first courtyard has the best reviewed restaurant in Avila. The second courtyard is the breakfast buffet area. We were delighted with both. We were at the hotel for four nights and we loved it, both for is unpretentious charm and for its perfect location inside the old town walls right next to the cathedral.

A group on an organized trip spent a week in this charming hotel in Lastres. They have offered us familiar treatment, the most notable thing has been the kindness of all the staff, always ready to make our stay super pleasant. The rooms are spacious, simple and have a rustic feel with wooden shutters. They have a small refrigerator that has been very useful for us to store the sausages and cheeses that we have bought. We got a room with sea views from where we saw the sunrises. The beds with comfortable mattresses and all the rooms are super clean.

This hotel is a clear example of "facade living":
- despite maintaining the magnificent old style, the poor maintenance of some spaces is visible, namely the bedrooms (bathroom with mold, bathtub already yellowish in color and with visible signs of corrosion, torn towels, shower that did not fit into the support, heavily stained carpet);
- banal breakfast;
- very unfriendly service, whether at check-in or check-out (in fact, when we informed the reception employee that one of the bath towels was torn, there was no apology, just the phrase "You could have us said and we changed the towel".
A four-star hotel that doesn't deserve them at all!

Unfriendly and inattentive staff.
We called to reserve parking, and they told us that it was not possible, could they have taken the opportunity to tell us that the street that leads to the hotel was closed for construction?!
Upon arrival the only information they gave us was the location of the elevator that gives access to the rooms, and the time of breakfast. What a shame they don't give a brief description of the building that dates back to the 16th century. An information brochure perhaps
When we wanted to have something on the patio, we had to go to the bar where the waiters were debating, because none of them came close to the table.
The rooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable.

Palacio de los Velada is a converted palace with lots of historic charm. Centrally located in the main plaza right next to the cathedral, you can't get a better location. Walk out the door and you are right next to everything. Check-in was efficient, rooms are clean, and there are lots of old-style European details in the rooms and bathrooms. The buffet breakfast is one of the best I've had; you don't get tired of the choices. Fresh fruit, charcuterie, tortilla española, and churros supplement all kinds of traditional choices of pastries and other breakfast items.

We spent a night there and had a terrible experience with the service of the restaurant.

However the food was good, the main waiter demonstrated a particular inelegancy with the note. First tried to charge us a dessert supposed to be covered in the menu we ordered and then charge us unsolicited food that the waiters put us on our table. After 10 minutes of tense exchanges, he pretends that this way of doing is in the law of the country. After checking, this is of course an illegal practice that carries a name : Stealing the people

Terribly disappointing to see a 4* hotel's restaurant trying to claw back few pennies over bread. Disgusting.

Dear Antoine, We deeply regret any discomfort or confusion you may have experienced. We would like to take this opportunity to clarify certain aspects. Your companion ordered a menu that included bread and dessert. On the contrary, you ordered a la carte, and the bread is charged separately, which is completely legal and can be verified in the Order of June 29, 1978, regarding the modification of menus and letters in restaurants and cafés. On the other hand, as we clarified at the time, our daily menu has a fixed price and specific dessert options. The dessert you selected was outside of the daily menu, for this reason, it was charged. We strive to be transparent in our communication with customers about the prices and components of our dishes and menus, offering fair value for the price paid. We do not intend to deceive anyone or do anything that deviates from our goal, which is to ensure our customers feel well cared for and valued at all times. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and hope to have the pleasure of serving you again to have the opportunity to improve your experience. Best regards,

Unbeatable location in front of the Ávila cathedral. Good treatment by the employees. The hotel is a bit obsolete: spacious but old bathrooms, elevators, locks, etc... Buffet breakfast where there is variety although more service would be appreciated, especially for groups.

We had a very poor experience in Madrid and decided to travel to Avila by train for a few days. The experience was fabulous in every way. Carmen Alonso took our reservation, modified it and checked us in, she was enthusiastic and informative. The building was an actual palace within the walls of the city and the accommodation was wonderful. Large fully equipped bath, quiet and comfortable room (great linens). The housing staff rival anything in the world. The breakfast was without reproach, with attentive staff, and wonderful fresh ingredients kept presented as if new for every guest. The cafe and restaurant in the centre of the lobby are an experience in itself.

The Maitre D, and his staff treat every table as a valued client. Travel to Avila and leave the big cities. This 3 day side trip made our visit to Spain. Pay to walk the parapets of the Castle, it is worth it.

The Velada has parking under the hotel at 16 euros per night. The hotel is near one of the city gates so not too far to walk if you end up parking outside the wall. For safety, don't leave anything in the car!
