we stayed for a week with our family - it was easy to find and owners were there to meet us despite our plane being delayed a few hours - owners were friendly and helpful during our stay - the family unit was large, well appointed with plenty of room for the family - located close to the night markets and a local store. There were some wasps around which we dealt with by spraying. Unit was clean and well maintained. There is a plunge pool in the yard which families with small kids would need to take care around as it is not fenced off.

We stayed in Apartment 1 (Pepe) and there are 4 in total on this property. very private and well maintained grounds. 5 minutes drive to Muri which is the hub of the area with many tourist attractions. great eateries. I recommend a scooter or vehicle to get around. pack a Snorkel and mask as there are loads of great opportunity all over the island to explore. We had great weather with only a few sun showers. The cultural warmth from the locals make you feel very welcome. We had 13 nights and it was just enough. Great Hosts and ideal for couples for privacy. We recently took our young daughter to visit family in Raro and stayed in the Family apartment. The apartment is perfect for a family, the lounge, kitchen, and bathroom areas downstairs are huge, there are plenty of fans and plenty of windows and doors which make it easy to keep cool. Our daughter loved playing in the bean bags in the lounge. Upstairs are another two large bedrooms, a wardrobe, and bathroom, with a deck and space to relax on couches. The master bedroom also has air conditioning. The beds are very comfortable. All the windows had insect screens so you could open the windows but keep the mosquitoes out. All the chattels are modern and in good condition, and there is even a private plunge pool. Muri village is only 5 minutes away, and Avarua town is only 10 mins in the other direction. The best snorkeling spots are only 10 mins drive as well. It is next to the beach too so you can walk outside and and onto a beach. Each apartment is really private so you don't see the other guests yet there is heaps of windows and natural light. We loved the place, Melinda and Andrew were great to deal with, and we would definitely return.…

Really disappointed with our stay here, I’m surprised it has had such good reviews. We stayed in the family apartment, it was dirty, had ants everywhere and wasps everywhere (mainly in the master). Also the master had no ceiling, so any normal conversation downstairs was amplified in the upstairs bedroom. A terrible design flaw in my opinion. The floors were uneven and no where near level. The bathrooms were dirty and dated. We moved out to a resort due to the wasp problem that we brought up with management and nothin was done ina timely manner. I believe we mention it 3 times. It wasn’t until my in laws told them that we had moved out that something was done. Also the advertise this as air conditioned but that’s far from the truth, completely undersized and had little control on it. A one point I had to turn it off outside when the remote stop working. They also threaten to charge you for the use of said aircon. I see on there website that they want to rent these out long term now, and the family unit at $650pw, I think that this is far to expensive for long term, it should of more been that price for short term. Anyway I could keep going on but all you need to know is DONT BOOK IT. Happy travels …

Thanks for your forth review on our property To see how this apartment was presented to you please see the video clip link filmed on the day you arrival. The film was made by the young man staying in the apartment next door to your apartment and he covered all four apartments that day. Here is the link and also the link this his youtoube page to verify filming date https://www.apartmentskakera.com/videos.html (second Video down) and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czsw-FnQ0UM&t=11s - In regard to design, there is a review three reviews down on this forum by an architect who stayed in this same apartment - design is a personal thing but he did not seem to see any unlevel stair issues or building quality issues, we think that would be something an architect would notice? All insect issues were managed and controlled quickly and our host responded to the first request and continued to follow up until resolved - actions included first putting out bate, closing off any small holes and then removed a piece of wall to check area completely . Wasps are hibernating at present not exclusive to our property and ants are part of life on a tropical island which is 90% tropical forest . We are an eco property and love nature but work very hard to minimize their effect on our guests. In regard to air con use and threats - just not our style, this is what the compendium states - Air con use is a free of charge service if used responsibly, that is operated with windows and doors closed and turned off when leaving the apartment, otherwise a charge applies. Please also turn of fans and lights when not in the apartment as most of Rarotonga's power is generated using diesel, so thank you for helping us minimize air pollution in our beautiful environment. We are unsure why that would be a threat? We see it as an eco principle. In regard to our pricing for long stays - A short holiday in Rarotonga could not make you aware of the cost of living in Rarotonga and your option on this is really not in anyway related to the short term holiday stay and we are unsure why you would raise this? As you said we have lots of great reviews - you are welcome to your point of view, as are other reviewers. At Kakera we provide holiday home environments for guests to create holiday good times in, we are always willing and available to help guests during there stay. We were disappointed with our experience at Kakera. There was a wasp nest outside the master bedroom of our apartment and we would wake each morning to heaps of dead wasps on the floor - I think they died in the air conditioning. The air con was poor too, only really cooled down the master bedroom, nowhere else in the apartment and we weren’t able to change any settings on the unit, it was either on or off and so we would wake up freezing in the middle of the night. There were ants everywhere and the fridge didn’t close properly and so wasn’t very cold. In another Kakera apartment where my in-laws were staying the stairs were uneven and dangerous and the pool was dirty... despite asking multiple times for it to be cleaned and even after they said it had been cleaned! We asked our host if he was able to arrange a high chair, it took three days in which time we had already managed to sort one. Overall the apartments felt run down and unloved. We moved elsewhere for the last few nights of our stay to better enjoy our holiday. Wouldn’t recommend this place at all.…

Thanks for the third review on our property and including an apartment you did not occupy and some issues raised in other reviews but not related to your apartment? In fact they are hibernating wasps moving from their nests to a warm dry place for winter, happening on the whole island every year and not exclusive to our property. We of course take this very seriously and your host managed this issue by first bating (that is why wasps were dead), then filling any small holes on the outside walls flashing etc and then removing some cladding to make sure this issue was resolved, very responsive as your comfort is very important to us. This apartment is designed with passive venting using cross cooling breeze along with the three meter ceilings and high open rafter design which allows warm air to rise away from the living areas, the air con in the master room has a remote to control temperature and fan rotation, the remote is checked before each new arrival and we happily help with air con remote instructions if needed, the apartment phone links to our mobile so we are always contactable. The refrigerator in this apartment has no seal issues and a working adjustable thermostat. (all refrigerators are checked regularly) In regard to the apartment you did not stay in, this apartment and all other apartments including the one you occupied (see your next review one down for that link) was filmed the day you arrived by another guest, the first shot is of the stair case you mentioned. We are unsure what you mean by uneven stairs, do you mean two different sets of raises separated by a platform? - standard stair design but best everyone takes a look https://www.apartmentskakera.com/videos.html film (first video). In regards to the pool, this was an unusual situation for us but as you raised this in several reviews I will cover what happened for us. Our staff clean all our pools daily. We were surprised that someone was tampering with our equipment and as you stated in another review, one of your group changed a pump value as they felt our staff did not know what they were doing. The result was, the water from this apartment pool drained into another pool and then proceeded to use an unfiltered garden hose to refill the pool which then filled the pool with dirt sediment. Our staff are train in our custom pool equipment set up and know the best way to keep the pools clean and maintained We work extremely hard to offer well loved, well cared for modern Pacific villa apartments and have been hosting guests for 13 years as a family business. Our apartments are set up as self catering holiday homes for guests to be able to enjoy holiday good times in. There is a great selection of different types of accommodation in Rarotonga and it is your choose to select the type that best suits your needs and style of holiday. At Kakera Villa Apartments we are clear that we offer four villa apartments each uniquely designed and furnished to create a relaxed tropical holiday space that offers an independent holiday set up which is private and unique, catering to couples, families and groups. We stayed at Kakera (apartment Pepe) for 8 nights in September, and would return more than happily! Fantastic location, beautiful apartment and lovely owners! I particularly loved how the afternoon sun hit the deck for some perfect sunbathing. So close to Muri, and only a few minutes into Avarua, it was ideal for our romantic getaway. Would highly recommend!

Kakera is a set of 4 apartments near the town of Muri. This review refers to apartment 3. This apartment has two great features - space and design. Although only two bedrooms; a space this size would normally squeeze four bedrooms in at least! Downstairs has a massive bathroom which is brilliant. It has a fantastic feel because of the huge space, great use of natural light and the open design. The decor is somewhat contemporary without venturing to far into the usual beachside apartment trap of tacky shells and whatnot. Which is not to say that it doesnt have an unmistakeably Cook Island ambience. Looking at the features individually: The Beach - the beach is about 40 metres away. It features lots of coral and some sand. You probably wouldnt swim at that beach but you could certainly hang out there. Access to the beach is quite private through the back gate. The Plunge Pool - our plunge pool was very shallow and is really only for sitting in. I would feel entirely comfortable having young children play in it. Location - the island is small but you will most likely want transport anyway. Muri - which has tourist shops and things to do - is 4 minutes by car. The main town is 10 to 15 minutes by car. You can hire a scooter if you have a motorbike license. If not you make an appointment at the police station and get a license for 40NZD. The test appears to be riding a scooter in a straight line - stopping - indicating and turning. We didnt use it but both the 'anti' and 'clockwise' bus will stop out the front. Internet - I strongly recommend getting the Bluesky service. Simply go to the Bluesky shop in Muri and they give you a hotspot code. The apartments use the same service so why not go direct to the source. It is also a lot cheaper. Cleanliness - the place was clean and neat. Management - very helpful. Laundry - apartment 3 shares a laundry which is accessed from the ground floor. It has a washing machine and powder and a sink. Kitchen - the kitchen has a great fridge, a stove, toaster, kettle, gas cooktop and a small microwave. It had everything we needed. The apartments would be perfect for group holidays where you stay in a couple of the apartments.…
