Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My partner stayed for over 5 weeks at this place and I stayed for just under 2 weeks . We chose it because of the very friendly and interesting description posted on the website for mount view. It more than met our expectations. The owner Shona went out of her way to make us welcome. The garden is very beautiful and while Shona is not a fan of some small pigs who disrupt her garden this did add to the appeal for me along with the wonderful company of the two colourful 4 legged characters, Michael John Scooby, and Cyclone. The beach across the road is quite corally and not good for swimming but apparently a good whale watching spot. The rooms were serviced every few days and our room ( number 3 ) was a good size and very comfortable and well maintained. There is no fan or air conditioning, no TV and no stove but the facilities were all we needed and the host was willing to negotiate for the longer stay so excellent value. We would highly reccomend this to those who dont mind driving to the beach and dont mind a garden rather than a sea view. There are 6 units ranging from single to twin and then 1 family unit. BBQ on site is shared.

My Mrs. and I stayed with Shona for a week in the wonderful island of Rarotonga in the end of october.
The place is very standard by first impression, but the exotic garden and the massive hospitality makes the stay memorable.. Its not like being in a hotel or even a B&B.. Its like staying in a heaven of hospitality..
We stayed in a huge bungalow and there was room for a family or at least two couples. The bungalow had everything we needed and more to.. Wonderful terrace to enyoy breakfast on..
Short trip to Muri Beach and the Avura.
Good recommendations from Shona on what to do.

I stayed at Mount View Lodges, Rarotonga, recently, as I needed somewhere reasonably priced, clean, tidy and comfortable. Mount View Lodges certainly gives you all of these things.

The lodges (I think there are four in all) are located in quite beautifully tended, lush, tropical and very beautiful gardens, sitting at the base of the mountains in Rarotonga. It's a very picturesque scene. The lodges are spacious, basic but so clean, well thought out and functional. I really enjoyed staying here. It was so peaceful, and Shona (the owner) is just lovely, and so helpful.

The only things that might detract a little is that there are no insect screens to keep the mozzies out and no fans. As I was staying in somewhat cooler weather, having to shut the windows at 5pm was not a problem, but I can see it might be in the wetter and more humid summer months. Same issue re the fans. Other that these things, the place is really faultless, and at $60 for a single, how can you complain. As Shona says, the price reflects what you are getting. I would stay here again, without doubt. I have stayed in many other places in Rarotonga for similar money and wouldn't even think of going back. Mount View Lodges easily comes first place in this price range, and the lodges are so cute (and yes, so spacious!)

Mount View Lodges are a half hour walk into town, or catch the bus that comes every hour right outside! So convenient. It takes about 6 minutes on the bus.

Cyclone, the very friendly resident doggie, will accompany you over the road and down the short track to the beach, jumping, tail wagging and in a thoroughly good mood. He adds to the overall good vibe of the place.

Wonderful host - starting from the beginning of the booking process to the very end of our stay. Very spacious, clean unit with all the necessities, great shower pressure, beautiful garden all around. Its not a fancy resort, but for that price it was more we had hoped for. Peace and quiet, easy scooter ride from main town and Muri, awesome coffee place nearby (Love Cafe) and a 24 hour shop nearby. We absolutely loved it there and would go back again!

This review goes back quite a number of years now but I'd like to remember and share this with you. Arrived on a midnight flight and got picked up by local friends who arranged this accommodation for us two couples. Shona, our host, stayed up way after midnight to greet us, we had a shared unit with basic self catering facilities, jug, toaster etc. and a small fridge, some chairs and table and outdoor seating. Sufficient enough for us, rustic and basic but set in a nice tropical garden with a (rocky) beach across the road and the beautiful mountains of Rarotonga in the back, we once again thought we're back in paradise. Close enough to fishing club and town and some shops and cafes in nearby Matavera to walk a few kilometres, we decided to get a small rental car to show our friends the island and visit people. This lodge is used by mainly backpackers and other people who like value for money and thats what they get. The units might be bit too close together for absolute privacy, but sooner or later most of the guests don't seem to mind that at all. Sure, a little tolerance towards "late night arrivals" is to be expected, the whole atmosphere of the place is quite casual. For the budget minded traveler, this place has to be one of the top choices on the island.
