This is our 4th year staying at Vaikoa. 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 7 weeks, 10.5 weeks and booked for 2021 for 11 weeks. It is our home away from home. Thank you for the Kia Orana Island experience. This is paradise!

Wow, Vaikoa Units is such a great place to stay! You are treated like family from the moment you arrive. Junior and Mama make sure you are taken care of and are very helpful. We really loved our stay here.

- we stayed in the large beach bungalow, it is literally on the beach! Basic but comfortable, and had everything we needed. It did get very hot in there during the afternoon and evenings though. The cold shower will help keep you cool.
- Junior will pick you up at the airport. They also can book lagoon tours for you.
- You can snorkel right off the beach in front of the bungalows. It is an excellent stretch of beach and amazing snorkelling too.
- there are kayaks to use and a great BBQ hut. We are almost all of our meals out here.

If you don't need super fancy accommodation then this is the place to stay. There are smaller rooms (still with a kitchen) closer to the road and two bungalows at the beach. I'm so happy we stayed here, we loved it and will be back!

I stayed at Vaikoa Units for only two nights with my travel mate, but it is definitely one of the friendliest places I stayed at. Junior picked us up from the airport, without charging us and Mama declared us members of the family. The double room for only 35 dollars a night, was big and clean, the beds were comfortable and we had our own little kitchen and ensuite bathroom. Mama and Junior were some of the friendliest people I have ever met, they organized us scooters and also booked the lagoon cruise for us, including a nice discount! Over a nice cup tea we talked about rugby and the island life. The location is also a plus, since it is only a 1 minute walk to the beach with the palm trees (watch out for the coconuts though). The transport back to the airport was one of the most adventourus I have experienced. I had on the back of a scooter, holding onto it with one arm and grabbed my backpack with the other one - definitely an experience! I would always come back, great people, great hospitality, cheap prices!

We would highly recommend Vaikoa beach front bungalow (double). Stayed for three nights, great hosts, very relaxed and helpful. We did a scooter round trip and honestly this property has the best beach of all hotels/ resorts, clean, toruquoise colour, white sand...amazing. Canooes can be used FOC, freah fruit can be picked by guests when in season. Room is very spacious with huge bed in the living room with couch and large table, spare bedrom and kitchenette with dining table as well. Deck is great , looking at the ocaen and those amazing sea colours from early morning until the beautifull sunset. The place is really a little hidden paradise and not crowded at all.
All rooms have ceeling fans and maim room has a stand alone fan as well. Beds have mosquito nets and all windows as well. You can't really escape mosquitos in Atutaki but there is a lot of options to protect yourself.
We did a lagoon cruise with adventure cruises as per hosts recommendation and would not change it for a second. Very gratefull for this tip and so happy we did it.
If you preffer more of a resort/ air con/ breakfats included, every day clean rooms this may not be the place for you. If you are not so fussed about lino floors and not so up to date room/bungalow and want peace and quiet away from the rest of the world this is really the place to stay.
Tamanu beach resort next to it has restaurant with tropical buffet breakfast for NZD15.00 pp if you don't want to buy groceries. You can also get internet there at NZD6.00 per 30min.

there is no option to rent a scotter at Vaikoa but hosts are happy to arrange if for you from Renos rentals or Aquila's rentals to be delivered.
No need ot do a special drivers liscence for Aitutaki.

Would love to stay there again.

If you want 5 star luxury with all the mod-cons, then this place is not for you.
What you do get though, is clean & comfortable accommodation under the palm trees right on the beach front.
You can't get any closer to beachfront than this.
We were in the 2 bedroom bungalow which fronts on to the white sandy beach literally less than 20 steps from the water's edge.
It is located on the calm side of the island facing the beautiful lagoon which is protected by the outer reef.
The sea here is perfect for swimming, snorkeling and kayaking. We spent 8 days doing exactly that plus lazing under the palm trees on the beach, reading and taking in the incredible sunsets.
The property is within walking distance of shops, but most people hire a car or scooter to get around the island.
Mama and Junior made us feel like part of their family and were so helpful and welcoming.
They were more than happy to arrange bookings with the various tour operators on the island and nothing was too much trouble
We can't wait to go back for our next stay.

Spent five nights at Vaikoa and loved every minute.
The beach house offers you terrific views over the lagoon. Sunsets are memorable! Nice palm trees keep the house in good shade. Good snorkelling is just off the beach. Beside all great things mentioned before, I would say that Junior - the owner of Vaikoa, with his attention and generosity made our stay great. Thanks a lot Junior!

We came to the other end of the world and met a family that give us the feeling, to know each other for ages. So helpful, cool, funny, caring and very fair.
I can not describe all the wonderful experiences that we had with Junior, Terengi, Mama, Terry and the girls. We spent the christmas dinner together, we were allowed to participate in a cruise on the lagoon with traditional boots, had very interesting conversations about the history of the island and the present situation. Will never forget this family.
The island is a quite place without dogs but with a lot of roosters.
I hope, we can go back one day.

Your hosts Te Rangi and Junior are awesome and will assist you in booking activities, you could not wish for better hosts. The rooms are simple but have everything you need. They have a good outdoor covered bbq/sunbathing area right next to the beach and have kayaks for you to explore the lagoon. If you are on a budget this is the perfect place for you, as it is right on the water and very close to all the shops on the western side of the island.

BRILLANT, heavenly, paradise.

Stunning place, it's just one of those places you dream about. The units aren't brand new, the Internet connection is slow, but if you want that don't go, but if you want quite surreal peace, if you want to be looked after, if you want to cleanse you soul, if you want some peace with a loved one, or you just want to see some unspoilt pacific island, then you will get all off that and you will be left with nothing but memories that go beyond the words heavenly paradise.

The units are nicely decorated, well ventilated, clean, tidy, typical beach huts, the blows through the reeds, the sun shines and early veiws are quite something, the staff friendly and you don't think anyone is around until you require something, the breakfast is sweet, delicious, and welcoming, just take plenty of suntan lotion you'll need it and it is expensive on the island.

Take a trip out onto One foot island, remember your lotion and get totally lost in what if offers..

We just spent 10 days at Vaikoa. Mama instantly settles you into the concept of family, welcoming , community and submersing into island life. You are part of the family and encouraged to have acuppa and a chat with the aunties and mama's.
Junior has no hesitation in sorting things out for you and at Vaikoa relaxing is mandatory. We fell in love with Vaikoa and cannot wait to return here ASAP. Meitaki atupaka from Miles
