Airport pick-up, sitting on the back of a truck, enjoying the brise... On the return drive, Mathila organised an enclosed vehicle due to bad weather. Well organised.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We enjoyed our stay at Petero's place. though the swimming is not so good and it is away from the best part of the lagoon. Friendly people.

Just an amazing place, our host Ra is a beautiful woman. She couldn't do enough for us. We would return as we enjoyed not having tourists all around us. It is a secluded spot with no neighbors for 100 meters. If you enjoy a secluded spot away from the resorts and tourism, this is the spot for you. The only down side is the beach isn't one where you choose to swim - the swimming beaches are back a couple of kms. You need a scooter!!!!

Comfortable self contained units. Friendly helpful service - fresh fruit, linen change, scooter delivery organised. Main markets and wharf just down the road to stock up on food. Good value for money.

Room Tip: Self contained units - preference for front unit nearest road, but others OK.

Booked through AirBnB, very easy book when accommodation was limited due to time of year. Very good rates compared to other local places. A great place to stay whilst on a business trip with the most perfect host in Mithilda 🖒

Six of us Aussies had the time of our lives when we stayed at Petero’s Place. Fabulous cosy cottages with the lagoon only a few steps away, stunning sunsets from the balcony and the enjoyment of living true island life away from the Resorts.

This is truely paradise, we have stayed twice at petro's place. The chalets are a little home away from home - not some fancy hotel. The location ,view, tranquility are hard to describe in words it has to be experienced. We look forward to coming again. Descendant of Aitutaki James Wycliff & Belinda Jackson-Roelofsma & Chantal Jackson-Roelofsma, John & Carolyn Jackson. we will be back.

I guess this location is, what AirBnB was originally made for. You get a place to sleep, but you also meet the landlord and learn about the local culture.

I was traveling with a friend and we booked the 2 beach front units (4 night stay), which are - just across the street - at the beach side. I have to admit, that we did not even try to swim here as we were kind of busy exploring the island, but it was a stunning view at the beach as well as from the terrace. The beach units are very clean with a small bathroom and a kitchenette. Mathilda is taking very well care of everything herself. It's like living back home at mom's, but SouthPacific style not German :-) . The property is also well taken care of. She showed us how to husk a coconut, how to open in different ways, we made our own coconut cream and she even got us some free water, fruits, doughnuts and was inviting us for dinner, which we missed as we just came back from dinner at the time (sorry for that!)... The location is a little remote, approx. 20 min from the touristic hotspot of the island (Aitutaki village), but this is what we enjoyed and we did not mind at all cruising around with the scooters. I would recommend to hire a scooter. Mathilda organised everything for us at a reasonable price for this island (20 NZD per day for 3 day rent), so no issue there (recommended to book in advance as scooters may run short). Some things are a little more expensive on Aitutaki vs Rarotonga, but this is kind of logic considering the logistics of things... We couldn't bother to cook all the time, but there is breakfast at either the dive center or the Maina groceries shop and we had very good quality take away food from Tunu2nu. All of this is less than 5 min drive by scooter. There are also other more reasonably priced take aways and shopping/food locations compared to the northeast side of the island (or the resorts). Of course there are mosquitos and roosters... but hey, you are not in the Alps, you have mosquito nets on all windows of the bungalow, so I had no issue at all, and also there are no dogs barking all night (dog free island)...

All in all, if you don't mind driving and like a family-style experience in a very clean, quiet and cosy environment, this is your place to go.

Thanks Mathilda for everything.
Martin

Mat has 4 bungalows by the coast road on the west coast just next to Maina Landing where some lagoon tours launch and she is renting at least the 2 front units. They are very spacious and modern with a nice patio where you can have your sunset dinner and have sea views although the beach here is not for swimming.
The kitchen has fridge+freezer, toaster, micro, water boiler and electric pan (no stove) as well as access to bbq on the property. Bathroom is also nice and clean. You have a fan and also AC which we did not use.
Mat is very friendly and welcoming host and very helpful. You will have some fruits and water waiting when you arrive and she keeps bringing more fruits over almost every day. Once she made us a bottle of divine thick tropical smoothie which you could sell for 20€ litre in Europe! She was also kind enough to arrange scooter ready on the villa (you need one to go to stores and visit Ootu which is 10km away) upon arrival and we could borrow her washing machine.
Clearly Petero’s Place is one of the top choice on Aitutaki island if you look for self-catering unit and it offers very good value for the money!
