We just returned from our stay at Tulemar in January 2020. We travel quite a bit and this was one of our best vacations yet because of the beautiful stay we had at Tulemar, combined with how wonderful the Costa Rican people are. What sets Tulemar apart are the stunning views, the very quiet and private property and the outstanding service from the personal concierge you are assigned. We had Jean Carlo and he was amazing. You need more eggs/beer/groceries? They are in your refrigerator within an hour. Reservations, a change in your schedule, personal chef....all needs met very quickly and easily via text and with pleasure. They even coordinate maid service for when they know you will be out on an activity without asking. Small details. Also nice touch that Jean Carlo met us each morning before we left for our excursion then texted at the end of the day to ask how things went. He even made a special trip down to the beach to say goodbye before his day off, the same day we were leaving. This level of service we hadn't experienced before. It set Tulemar apart for me and gave us comfort knowing we had a local person to contact if and when we needed it.

As other reviewers have mentioned the views and the grounds are just stunning. We were often the only people at the pool, and the beach was not crowded either (David at the beach, also great and very accommodating). Amazing and much different than fighting the crowds for a chair or palapa at other resorts we've experienced. I read that other reviewers mentioned some of the common spaces were a bit tired. I honestly didn't even notice, because my eyes were always on the views, monkeys, beautiful pool, etc. I'd suggest to management that having water available at the pools without having to order/ask for it would have been a nice touch. We stayed in a 3 bedroom villa. I'd agree with some others that the king bedroom mattress wasn't the best but otherwise we LOVED the villa and especially the balcony and showers. I would also agree with a few others that Tulecafe was just good but not great. Good restaurants nearby though. Outstanding experience overall, I would definitely recommend to others and hopefully return in the future! Special shout out to Jean Carlo for making our week a truly memorable experience!

Thank you Denamcl for your 5 stars and for staying with us at Tulemarresort. I appreciate your constructive comments and will look into water at the pool... the one issue I see is ice, but maybe in the future we could surmount that- Yes there are spots in the resort that get "tired" and we are in a constant effort to keep material goods at there highest possible quality. As you all can imagine in the rain forest butted up against the sea that is Sisyphus task. Thank you again Denamcl for your review and we hope we can host you again! Pura Vida, Chris

My husband and I stayed at Bamboo Villa 1. Tulemar is a beautiful complex that is mostly recommended for the private access to a small beach in Manuel Antonio. "Clear, calm water in the middle-of-the-jungle beach" was our main reason to choose this location. Upon arrival, we met Brian, the concierge for the Bamboo Villas, and he was the best! Such an energetic, lovely person. The Villa was beautiful: clean, modern, super comfortable (3 stories up, so lots of stairs, to take into consideration). The bedroom and bathroom are the best feature, I must say. You can watch the sunset from the comfortable bed, even from the shower; or you can watch it from the balcony. The villa has its own pool, so that's good in these times in which you must keep distance from people. You can cook, and you can also book a chef to come and make a wonderful meal for you at the villa. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was amazing. Villa #1 is on the side of the complex road; so, you might hear people talking and vehicles passing. I guess that Villas 2 or 3 might be more quiet. I particularly loved the concept, architecture and decoration of the villas much better than the bungalows for sure. Another aspect that made a difference was the excellent 24/7 service of the concierge; since Brian was amazing to us, he made our stay much more pleasant with all the details and excellent service he provided. We are coming back for sure!!

We stayed in Amopola which is one of the bungalows at Tulemar. We had a beautiful, panoramic view of the ocean over the top of the jungle canopy. I can confirm that the photos of the property and accommodations that Tulemar posts are genuinely representative of what you will see when you arrive...no smoke or mirrors.

The grounds are perfectly kept and there are A LOT of grounds. The walkways are well lit at night and security is at a premium (just make sure to close an lock windows to keep the monkeys away from the cookies). The wildlife on property is as advertised. I can confirm that Howler Monkeys indeed howl!

The staff was world class. Fabio, our concierge, was THE MOST attentive host we have ever had. From booking transfers, cabs, meals...what ever, he was a text away with zero notice. These folks love their property and guests and it shows. Additionally, the staff at Tulemar has obviously vetted third party folks that they will hail for you, such as shuttle and taxi drivers. We never once experienced a "sketchy" individual.

We brought tuna back to the restaurant on property. The chef prepared 4 different dishes from it, all world class. The Tico Breakfast on the gorgeous beach was spot-on every morning accompanied by a Monkey Madness or two (or 4).

My wife and I loved our experience so much that we have already chosen a Casa on Tulemar for our return visit. We simply cannot say enough things about the experience we had in this beautiful country with these wonderful people.

The Bamboo Villa was absolutely beautiful! The layout perfectly complimented the sunsets over Tulemar Beach. Tropical Birds flying right through the open concept kitchen and lounge with infinity pool. Monkeys playing in the trees right next to your villa. Panoramic elevated views of the Pacific Ocean from the master bedroom, rainfall showers inside and out, and large outdoor soaking tub. This was definitely my favorite place I’ve ever stayed!

Our journey began in Arenal National Park, bringing us to the beautiful beaches and culture Manuel Antonio has to offer. My boyfriend and I were celebrating birthdays and we were loving every second of Costa Rica. It was a long journey, but the concierge Brian Quarta was in touch from the very beginning, made arranging transportation and anything we needed feel so seamless. 5 Star services at Tulemar! We were spoiled and made to feel at home the second we stepped foot on the property, even being surprised with little treats throughout our 4 night stay.

Gorgeous lush trees, greenery and flowers everywhere. The grounds are on a hillside that leads straight to the Tulemar Beach. On my birthday night, my boyfriend decided to plan a little sunset dinner. Brian made everything happen flawlessly. I was completely surprised when I walked into our Villa to see rose petals leading me out to a private sunset dinner, a musician my boyfriend hired and a private chef making a magical experience.

We loved our stay at the Tulemar Bamboo Villa! It was close to many shops and restaurants with gorgeous views, the area had everything we needed. We visited the Manuel Antonio National Park and tried several restaurants in town, which Tulemar gives great advice on. Emilio’s Cafe and Morpho were two of our favorite spots. The resorts' pool and restaurant Tulé Cafe was right next to our Villa also, prime spot to be.

My perfect day here? Woke up early to enjoy the cool air and plentiful wildlife around, spend the day at the private beach, sunsets in the Villa, and dinner on the town. I can't wait to come back here, it was an experience I will never forget. :)

We can’t say enough about Tulemar Resort as a destination for our summer vacation!!! Staying a week at one of their lovely villas was a perfect place for our family of four to begin traveling again! After staying two nights in the Arenal Volcano area, our Tulemar concierge, Jean Carlo, arranged for private transportation to take us to Manuel Antonio and the beautiful Villa Ara Macao in the Tulemar Resort. Jean Carlo reached out when we were planning our trip and gave excellent recommendations. He advised and booked activities for us, made restaurant reservations each evening, supplied groceries to our villa upon arrival, and even took me shopping for souvenirs!

Our villa was the perfect getaway with plenty of room for the four of us. The three bedrooms were spacious, and there was a washer/dryer in the unit plus a full kitchen. We fell in love with the balcony that overlooked the ocean, countless wildlife and beautiful Pacific sunsets! We experienced up-close encounters with Capuchin and Squirrel monkeys, Scarlet Macaw’s and a variety of birds, all from our balcony!

The resort is situated above the Pacific Ocean, and the beach was a 10-minute walk downhill from our villa. On our walks, we saw Howler Monkeys and two varieties of sloths. Many days, we chose to walk back up after enjoying the beach. There was beach service provided by David and his team, who brought us towels, beverages and food if we wanted. They would also call a resort van to take us back to the villa if we didn’t want to walk uphill (it’s very steep).

The restaurants on the property, TuleCafe and Victoria’s Italian Restaurant, were delicious! We especially enjoyed walking across the street to Victoria’s. It’s only open Thursday through Sunday, so we made plans to eat there twice during our stay. Eliot took great care of us there!

The family pool was beautiful and never very crowded. There’s SO much to do in the area that most people tend to sit out at the pool before or after activities. For activities, we enjoyed the Catamaran outing and the Safari Truck Tour to Los Campesinos, all arranged by Jean Carlo. The Costa Rican culture is so friendly and joy-filled that we enjoyed each activity.

On our last morning, Jean Carlo arranged private transportation to San Jose for our return flight home. We would absolutely recommend Tulemar for a family vacation or a romantic getaway! We look forward to coming back!

Tulemar has everything you need for a wonderful vacation in the Manuel Antonio area. The beach is beautiful and the grounds beautifully maintained (except for the adult-only pool which was in bad need of a cleaning). The villa, we rented, was meticulously maintained, and unexpectedly refreshed with the most beautiful fresh floral arrangements every other day. The food and service at the restaurant was excellent, but the resort is also located within walking distance of several other restaurants outside of the grounds. Would definitely recommend Tumelar for anyone considering a visit to Manuel Antonio.

This resort went above and beyond our expectations! My family and I have travelled to a bunch of places and this is our best vacation spot so far. It's a 3 hour drive from San Jose International airport but they offer pick-up and drop-off for an additional fee which I think was a great decision since our travel time was long and it gave us time to rest. This beautiful resort sits on a 30 acre lot by the coast surrounded by the lushest vegetation I've seen. We were greeted by a bunch of squirrel monkeys showing off their jumping skills outside our room with the most amazing view of the ocean. We were warmly welcomed by the excellent staff there. The staff made us feel like royalty, especially our very-hard working personal concierge, Jean Carlo Carvajal. He was at our beck and call any minute of the day. He made dinner reservations for us and briefed us on every excursion we signed up for. The rest of their staff are the friendliest people I've met like the shuttle drivers, Memo, Harry, and Nacho who drove us from our room to any point inside the resort. Our room was kept immaculately clean by our housekeeper, Gabriella. When we had a minor issue with the TV where the picture had reddish tint, they replaced it with a new TV!Their private beach is one of the best beaches I've been to. The waves were gentle and the water was warm. The beach chairs and umbrellas were already set up when we got there. They even offer complimentary use of boogie boards, kayaks, etc. On some nights, they serve dinner on the the beach which I found out thru Jean Carlo.
I can't stress enough how beautiful this resort is and how awesome their staff is! Pura Vida!!!

Tulemar is one of the most beautiful places in the world! The views, the animals and natural environment within the resort kept us busy for the entire week. We swore they paid the macaws to fly over every morning and the monkeys to put on a show. Not only are the views spectacular but the service and the people are unmatched! Brian Quarta, our concierge was immediately available for anything we needed! He even found an aloe plant at his mother’s friend’s house to help us with our sunburn. When we asked for groceries they would arrive within 5 minutes!! Brian set us up with chef Mayky for the week who is one of the best chefs in Costa Rica and made the most delicious meals we could have asked for, and all authentic Costa Rican cuisine!! Brian made everything very easy and had safe shuttles to and from every excursion. The people working within Tulemar (beach bar, tule cafe, etc.) were extremely accommodating and friendly! We stayed at Mirazul villa which had such a beautiful view, a large pool and space for couples to have privacy. The folks that work at Mirazul washed our laundry and had it ready for us every afternoon- I barely had to wash anything when I returned home. The bathtub in the master was a thing of beauty! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Tulemar and Brian. The people that were there really made our vacation special and they are the happiest people in the world (you’ll realize why when you visit)!! We cannot wait to go back and we will be making it a yearly tradition!!!! Pura Vida!

Our first time staying at a Bamboo Villa and won’t be our last. Pictures of the villa do not compare with actually being there. This place is amazing with the views from the bedroom, kitchen/dining area and pool. Perfect for two people needing to get away from stress and to just slow done from a hectic life. We saw monkeys, macaws, hummingbirds and kiskadee birds everyday. The pool at the villa was great if we didn’t feel like going to the beach. Tule cafe was a one minute walk away and we used room service several times. Local restaurants, mini marts and bank ATM outside of Tulemar were within a five minute walk. Brian our concierge contacted us everyday to see how things were going and if we needed anything. He dropped off treats for us several days that were much appreciated. The staff wore masks everywhere we went and hand sanitizer was available everywhere including our villa. We have stayed at other villas and bungalows at Tulemar but this was our favorite.

We could not have had a better honeymoon experience than what Tulemar provided. When we arrived, the employee at the front desk walked us through details about the property, as well as the tours that we had planned through the resort. We also received the phone number for our concierge, Alex, to text him any questions or requests. Alex was incredibly helpful throughout our entire trip, from dinner recommendations to answers to tour questions to tracking down a flashlight to help us see around the property at night (it gets dark around 6PM, so I would suggest bringing one).

From there, we took the shuttle down to our room. It is a huge and hilly property, so we took the shuttle often to go up to the main street or down to the beach. The view from the room was breathtaking, and I don't think we ever got used to seeing it. The room was cool and comfortable, and the A/C was a welcome break from the heat and humidity during the day. We stayed in a Tulemar Standard Room (Villa 204), and it had everything we needed for our stay (including a coffee maker and coffee). From our balcony we saw a bunch of wildlife, including birds, lizards, and a big group of squirrel monkeys. There were over 30 of the monkeys playing in the trees above us, which was incredible to see up close.

As far as the amenities go, we used and enjoyed everything that Tulemar had to offer. The pools were clean and refreshing, and were never overly crowded. The beach is private to Tulemar, and has plenty of space for everyone to spread out and enjoy themselves. The servers on the beach provide anything you would want, and even give you a warning when the tide is starting to come in (there is a lot less beach during high tide). We had a couples massage which was incredibly relaxing. But above all else, I have to recommend the food at the resort. We ate at Tulecafe and Victoria's during our stay, as well as food down at the beach, and everything was phenomenal. It might be a few dollars more than the other restaurants in the area, but I can tell you that the food was worth every penny. The shuttles will take our everywhere on the property, which is good because going uphill in the dark can be a bit of a trek. Special shout-out to the drivers, especially Memo and Nacho who were super friendly throughout our stay and gave us great recommendations for food and things to do.

All of the tours that we scheduled through the resort were great, and easy to coordinate with Alex. I checked a few of the websites for the tours and it looks like Tulemar charges the same price, which was great to see. You charge all of the tours to the room, so you don't need to worry about bringing cash along with you unless you want to tip. A lot of the tours include lunch, and all of the food we had was enjoyable.

Overall, I can't really think of a single thing that would have made our trip better. Alex even left us a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate-covered strawberries as a congratulations on our engagement. I would absolutely recommend this resort, we are already looking for an excuse to go back for another trip.

Wondering if the beach is walkable from this resort?

Yes, you can walk to the beach but it's asphalt and all downhill. I recommend taking the shuttles. The Tulemar has great shuttle service, they will pick you up right in front of your bungalow.
