On our honeymoon tour of Costa Rica, we stayed here for 6 nights in two separate blocks of 3 nights. The staff went over and above to help us. They were so friendly and accommodating and couldn't have done any more for us to ensure we had the best honeymoon. We would recommend the night time nature hike that can be booked through the reception. We saw the most incredible reptiles and amphibians. We loved the Swiss style chalet reception and the pool area. Not everyday you can sit on a sunbed and watch hummingbirds, toucans and howler monkeys while having a cocktail. The traditional breakfasts were delicious. Would recommend staying here if you visit Cahuita as it is a short beach walk into the town and nature reserve.

We stayed for 3 nights here, hoping to go snorkelling, the weather prevented that activity, but the hotel was delightful. Our room was very spacious, air conditioned with a very private terrace. The staff were excellent, helpful and welcolming. The manager/owner had a wonderful sense of humour which further enhanced a great stay. Thank you.

I have been traveling in Costa Rica regularly for the past 10 years and spent a lot of time in different hotels, including in Cahuita. This hotel is the worst place I have experienced. I expected to find nice and romantic rooms in a charming hotel to end my last trip. That was a mistake. It has no soul, it is shabby, and very expansive for what you get (more than 100 USD per night). You will find much better hotels near town along the "playa negra". The positive points of the hotel (tropical garden, tropical swimming pool, and breakfast with eggs and fruits) underlined in some reviews on tripadvisor are common to most of the hotels in Cahuita. The main reasons that should keep you away from this hotel are: the rooms are small and very rustic; there is no intimacy because there are no real walls separating the rooms of the bungalows (you can hear the other guests like if they were in your own room - that's not very pleasant when they flush the toilet ...); it's far from the National Park, from the town and from the bars and restaurants (you need a car, especially after dark - 5.30 pm); the coffee is horrible (that's a shame for Costa Rica); the rooms are overpriced in comparison with other hotels offering better services and nicer rooms and location; and, above all, this hotel does not have the Cahuita's spirit at all, it is impersonal, charmless, and has no soul.

The resort is surrounded by lush green trees and foliage which are home to all kinds of wildlife. We saw toucans, black and green poison dart frogs (very cool!), lots of lizards, monkeys and sloths (both 2 and 3 toed!!) It felt and sounded like we were staying in the rain forest which was amazing. The pool has been done to a really high standard, bungalows were lovely and spacious complete with a hammock by the front porch while the bathroom was clean and solar powered shower nice and hot! The room had a mozzie net and there were 2 fans which kept us cool at night. Daniel the owner was really helpful and advised us on places to go and things to see.

The highlight for us was the nearby Jaguar Rescue Centre which rehabilitates all kinds of wildlife. The centre has bought an area of primary forest (called Ceiba forest in Puerto Viejo) which it uses to release wildlife. We did a night tour of this area with a guide which although hard to find (down a narrow, steep and very bumpy track) was well worth it, as once we got there, the night trek was just magical. Saw spiders, snakes, huge frogs, owls, lizards, bullet ants....the list goes on!

As it was 'low season' at Suizo Loco when we stayed in May, the restaurant was open for breakfast daily (pancakes were delicious) and dinner just on Monday. This wasn't really an issue as just down the (bumpy) road on the beach (need a car) you'll find a lovely restaurant called "Sobre las Olas." I recommend the red snapper or Caribbean dish of rice and shrimps. Sit back with a cocktail or local beer and listen to the waves crash....it was perfect.

The resort is near to the Cahuita National Park, well worth a visit for some walking and wildlife spotting. I can't recommend Suizo Loco lodge enough, it was everything we hoped for and more, thanks Daniel, we hope to come back one day!!

This is very quiet lovely place that is still within easy reach of the beach, restaurants, bars, downtown Cahuita, etc. The bungalows are very comfortable and the pool is excellent. The gardens attract wildlife--bird, sloths, iguanas, etc.

Parking is ample and easy. The restaurant is very good--breakfast came with my room and the food was great. The staff is very friendly and easy to talk to. The owner makes sure to connect with all the guests daily.

I will stay here again.

We stayed at Suzo Loco Lodge for six nights. We got a room with air conditioner and ceiling fan. Our room was spacious with high ceiling and decorated in good taste mainly in wood. We had a big comfortable bed. Both the room and the bathroom were clean with plenty of shelving and space for storage and organizing your belongings.
The grounds and landscaping were beautiful and well looked after. The pool was fairly big and the water very refreshing, especially after coming back from a hot and humid day of excursion.
When we arrived in the evening, Daniel, the owner of the lodge greeted us with a smile. He helped us with our luggage and showed us to our room. He was a wonderful host, always had time for a friendly chat and ready to offer his help or advice to make your stay more enjoyable. We were excited to see the wild life and on a number of occasions he would come to our room to take us to see them on the hotel grounds.
The staff were very friendly and polite. The service and food was excellent. You got 3 options for breakfast . We tried them all and they were all very good. I really enjoyed the fresh juice and plate of fresh fruit as well as the very good coffee they served there. Ramona was a very efficient assistant and made one of the best Margaritas I ever had.
One of the most appealing aspects of the lodge for us was its proximity to the rainforests and wild life. It is within walking distance from Cahuita national park and the town itself. However, even within the grounds of the hotel we came to see a lot of animals such as Iguanas, Tucans, Sloths, agoutis and humming birds. It was amazing to be so close to the wildlife and hear the howling monkeys first thing in the morning or the loud and unusual calls of certain owls in the trees during the day.
Overall, we were very happy with our stay at the hotel and would go back there again and recommend it highly to every one . Bill & Auzi

After a disappointing night in another hotel, we searched for something more updated and relaxing. We came upon Suizo Loco, and loved it instantly! The well maintained walkways, flowering landscaping, the chaise chairs around the pool with thatched umbrellas, and the cabins were all clean and very inviting. With all the rain in Costa Rica, you want to have certain basics, and Suizo Loco provided that. On our tour of the grounds, Daniel immediately pointed out a Howler Monkey, a sloth, and Green Iguanas in the trees surrounding the lodge. We loved it immediately. The rooms are very clean, and have roomy bathrooms, which we really appreciated. We are so glad we decided to stay here, and only regret we couldn't have stayed longer. We were concerned about not having air conditioning, but the design of the cabins, and fans made the evenings very comfortable, almost too cool on some nights. We also wouldn't have been able to enjoy the amazing birds and howler monkeys if all we heard was the sound of an a/c unit. It was comfortable lodging, off the beaten path, and we were able to see more wildlife here than being on the beach. Bernadette, and the other staff were very accommodating, even supplying an umbrella for the rainy days. Juan, the grounds keeper, pointed out several sloths we didn't know were there, even a two toed sloth with her tiny baby. We appreciated him taking time out for us. And what a treat that was to see, usually only seen in the rescue centers if fortunate, but here it was right outside our door! Even the resident cat and two dogs were relaxing to have around. We tried two of the three breakfasts, they were enjoyable and filling. Yes, the flies were annoying, but it is the tropics, and delicious fruit and jam are quite inviting. We hope to return again, and just spend our days around the lovely pool, being entertained by the Iguanas, sloths, toucans, and everything else. But be warned...it's hard to keep your eyes in front of you when there is so much to look at in the trees...walking, staring up in amazement, my husband fell in the pool...phone and all. No worries, Bernadette gave us rice to dry the phone in. It was so worth it...when else will you be surrounded by such tranquility and wildlife?

We spent some time in Puerto Viejo a couple of years back and this time thought we'd give Cahuita a try. The hotel was easy enough to find being signposted off the main road. An unmade road then takes you about 200m to the hotel. Daniel was very welcoming and offered us a choice of the available rooms. The room was spacious enough with a decent bathroom but oh my, was the bed uncomfortable. It was a roll together experience and at the end of a nights sleep the matress was clearly bowed in the middle. However, that is really the only fault we could find here. We asked for extra pillows and these were supplied promptly but we didn't have the inclination to ask for another mattress! Breakfast was a slightly odd affair, having to be ordered the previous day from a choice of three menu types. It was perfectly edible though and very filling. No complaints there. Apart from the nuisance flies. We didn't have dinner there as we like to go out and disappear until nightime. Right up until our last day I would have scored the hotel a three. But on the last day it actually stopped raining and the place burst into life. Just sitting by the poolside and wandering up and down we saw Howler Monkeys, Squirrels, Agoutis, Tree Iguanas, Three Toed Sloth, Keel-billed Toucan, Collared Aracari, Hummingbirds, Montezuma Oropendula and a lot more. All within an hour during late afternoon. I can guarantee you'll see a wider variety of wildlife here than in the National Park up the road. We drove to the hotel and there is plenty of parking. All in all, bed aside we had a very enjoyable stay here and would visit again if in the area. But not in the wet season!

Especially if you like it quiet. The room was very clean and kept that way. The grounds and pool were spotless. The included breakfast was very good and filling in the morning. Daniel was extremely helpful going out of his way to help me recover my cane after leaving it on the Interbus.
The one slight small thing is the location. It is a north of town and getting to most other food venues requires transportation. However, Playa Grande is just a few minutes down the road and having a long beach to yourself in low season is quite amazing. I am going to try to return here it's that good.

We had a rental car during our stay. If you do rent a car, be sure to also rent navigation system as many roads in Costa Rica are not marked. It's a long drive, so leave early in the morning.

sorry, I did not use a travel agent. Just me and my computer. Use a travel agent to book your flight into San Juan. I used one of the tourist bus lines to get to the east coast - they will pick you up from your San Juan hotel or maybe even from the airport, depending when your flight gets in. Management at the Lodge are great to work with. Email them for info on the bus transfers and to book your room, of course. Its a nice place to stay.
