I had a great stay at Dreamsea and would recommend to other travellers, especially those travelling on a budget. A friend and I stayed for 5 days in the Garden Suite (worth the extra money to have our own shower and to be indoors with air conditioning) but I would stay in the cheaper accommodation too, especially as food is included (which was always tasty!). There were 3 surf instructors, meaning the groups were small and we all got personal feedback and our room rate include the lessons and board rental. There was also a free shuttle every day to and from the beach. It does have a bit of a younger, party vibe so I think is more suited to that, however it is entirely possible to have a chilled trip here and enjoy it. Everyone at the camp was really friendly and we had a great time

The dreamsea surfcamp is a beautiful place in the jungle close to Tamarindo. It’s a paradise for (solo) travelers to meet people, share memories and make friends for life!
The tents are beautiful and the common areas are perfect to chill out & relax.
Start your day at 7 o’clock on the amazing jungle platform with free yoga and enjoy a nice breakfast after that before you head to the beach for surfing, volleyball or just hang out.
The food is amazing and freshly cooked every evening (also vegetarian/vegan).
Everyday the team organizes something fun to do like pub quiz, music bingo or movie nights and they always bring all the guests and volunteers together to connect and enjoy!

If you have the chance to go there - do it :-)

If there’s one place in the entire world that I’d want to go back to it’s definitely Dreamsea! It has everything you could ever Dream of. The vibes are awesome. Every day the people of the camp gather for the amazingly delicious home cooked meals. The new pool is the perfect addition to the establishment, there’s both the ability to relax and read a book and also enjoy awesome pool parties. The staff is incredible, always super helpful and up for a good time. They truly make the dreamsea experience a million times greater. 10/10!

Had a terrible experience! It’s really unorganized but if you wanna party and don’t care about anything this might suits you but if you wanna go for the surfing it’s definitely the wrong place. As a surf camp to have one surf coach seems a bit like a joke and it definitely was. I’m an intermediate surfer and thought I could improve a bit here. In my first week I didn’t even get surf lessons at all because there were lots of beginners and the coach didn’t have time to teach an intermediate!! I felt sorry for the coach tho because he had to teach classes of like 7 people. He did a good job but it’s just not how it should be. They surf everday in Tamarindo no matter if the waves are good or not. They do excursions to Playa Grande and Avellana but you need to pay 10 bucks extra for the shuttle and also they don’t care if there are good waves or not. The food was ok but usually not enough, plates were dirty and it’s basically rice and beans everyday. The Camp is full of Volunteers so it’s more of a teenie camp. It says they offer a 6 am surf daily. In two weeks there it happened once!!! And one time we were supposed to do it but the surf coach did not show up because he was hangover. I only stayed the two weeks because I already paid for it. I do not recommend it at all! Even if you are short on budget I’m sure you can find a better place than this.

The place looks absolutely nothing like any of the photos that are shown online. I was a volunteer and was shocked at the filthy living conditions around the camp. The volunteer dorms were exposed to the outside leaving countless critters around us at all times. They were careful to not have any photos of inside the volunteer dorm on the website because of how filthy it is. You can’t even walk around without shoes because of the mud that is all on the floors inside. Some people that I met from the UK called it a military camp. The 2 meals you are promised a day are basically scraps as they barely have enough food for everyone at the camp. The “bar” that they have there is not worth it to drink at all it’s overpriced and there’s no real bartender there anyway. They forget to mention that the shuttle that is offered to the beach only comes once a day at 11am and then it takes you back at 6pm. The camp had a lot of people so everyone squishes onto it. It is not a 20 minute walk to the beach it is an hour walk because you are in more of a jungle area. So it’s not as accessible to get to the downtown area on your own unless you uber. As for the surfing lessons it is one “instructor” teaching like 20 people at a time. It is overpriced and you could get a solo lesson for the same price if not cheaper at the beach yourself. While I was there I also heard of peoples things like their passports and money going “mysteriously missing” there’s no lockbox or anything to put your valuables in. There is absolutely no sense of security. Anyone really could just walk in there. The whole site is just run down nothing feels clean. I’ve been to summer camp before I wouldn’t even say dream sea is as clean as a summer camp. I would advise not to stay here even if you are coming as a guest because it is all 18-21 year olds at the camp. They specifically ask the volunteers to bring cash to pay for the stay because they will not refund you in that case. Most of the people I met there wanted to leave but were young and did not have the money to do so. The hostels in town are a better option to stay at. Also this dream sea is not affiliated with the other dream sea organizations that exist. They just took the logo and put in on their instagram page but it is not an official dream sea surf camp. A lot of time is spent into making their social media page look amazing but it’s not what it seems.

I had a nice trip to Tamarindo, the surf was nice, but the experience at the camp is not like it is described on the website and it is really expensive for what it really is.

If you are more that 19 years old, I really don’t recommend the place. They say that there is planned athletic activities at the camp, but the camp’s activities are really just drinking games and party. I think it’s nice if you’re 18-20 years old, but older than that and if you are there for the surf, you will be disappointed. Because there are more volunteers than guests, they party every night because they don’t surf the next morning and you can’t really sleep because there is loud music till 3am almost every night. I felt like guests were there to pay for the volunteer’s experience.

David is a really good surf instructor, but with 20-30 guests and only one surf instructor, you surf for only 1h / day and because everyone is beginner, if you are an intermediate surfer, you don’t really get a lesson.

They say that there’s one excursion AND one surf trip / week, but it’s one excursion OR one surf trip / week and the trip was really expensive for what is really was.

I’ve stayed twice in this camp (4 years apart) and I learned that you can’t have enough of it, you will always want to stay more and more time there.
Staying at Dreamsea means having a 180 degrees experience everyday. One day at camp means relaxing, surfing, morning-sunset yoga, doing hundreds of organized activities and partying with amazing people from all over the world at the astonishing Costa Rican jungle.
Staying at Dreamsea means having an unforgettable experience where you can step out of your ordinary life and make some real living experiences. Dreamsea is definitely not just a place to stay, it’s a constantly changing community of people where everyone wants to enjoy life at its best.
The camp staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, they’re always attentive to any need that may arise so they can help you have the best time in your stay .
So if you’re a person that likes to have a great time while surfing and making friends from all over the world, Dreamsea is your option.

I stayed at Dreamsea for two weeks as a volunteer and loved every minute of my stay. My camp job was to help with dinner so all in all not longer than an hour a day of helping. I loved the atmosphere of Dreamsea, it’s so rare to find a place so successfully dedicated to communal living. Every morning we had a beautiful yoga session on an elevated platform in the jungle surrounded by trees and every evening guests and volunteers alike would participate in super fun organised activities. I’m between, daytimes were spent surfing and playing volleyball all together at the beach. This place is truly unique, and is every bit as fabulous as it’s social media portrays. Dreamsea also attracts brilliant creative likeminded people and it’s been so amazing getting to know everyone including Carlos and Ollie. Lots of love, can’t wait to return :)

The camp is mostly inhabited by “volunteers” in their early 20’s, spending at least 3 weeks there for a free stay and forming tighter bonds. They do everything from keep up the social media accounts, set up tents, cook, serve meals, paint, teach yoga, teach surf. While everyone was very friendly, I was 1 of 2 paying guest there which was disappointing and weird at times.

I almost switched locations but tried to have an open mind and I made the most of it. I liked surfing, Tamarindo beach, and nice moments on excursions. I independently broke off and did some of my own activities in the area, which were all very fun. I walked in feeling too old for the group there, but I did end up feeling like a kid again living in a tent for a week among other things.

Dreamsea is the best place to stay in Costa Rica. Everybody there treats you like family, the manager Ollie really takes care of everybody. Ollie made sure i got home safely from every excursion. Not only did he make sure I got home safe, he also made sure i was welcome and comfortable with all the other guests.
