We stayed for 4 nights with our three children. I’m pretty sure we lucked into the best room in the place directly across from the top of the big slide with a terrace looking at the volcano where I enjoyed coffee every morning of our stay. Some rooms were quite a ways up the hill which could have been tiring to walk up in the heat. They do have a shuttle, the one time we called for it (to take our bags down when we were checking out) it didn’t come for 20 minutes and eventually our transfer shuttle drove in to pick up our bags at our room, so I’d say give yourself lots of time if you need the shuttle. The rooms are nice, clean but basic. If I had any feedback I would suggest that a mini fridge would be really nice to have. The kids loved the slides, I don’t know how many times they ran up the 71 steps to the top of the big slide over our stay but it was a lot! It’s a nice smooth slide - fun for adults too! There are 11 pools in total, 2 colder pools and the rest thermal pools in different temperatures and we had fun visiting them all. We also really enjoyed the pool bar. The pool areas were kept clean. More chairs would be nice. I think we were there at the peak of busy season and it never felt too full but most chairs were usually occupied. The hotel when we were there had pretty diverse guests which was very nice - all different ages, families, young couples, older couples, some younger friends travelling together. Surprisingly a lot of Canadians! Breakfast buffet was great. Lots of variety, amazing fresh fruit, eggs, toast, traditional costa rican rice and beans, pastries, yogurt, cereal - something for everyone. Dinner at the main restaurant was good. One night there was a tour bus so they had a buffet that we were able to join which was great. The pool bar is a more affordable and more casual option so we ate there a few nights - pizzas are incredible, the Asian chicken salad was great, fish tacos were okay, kids loved the burger - no complaints really. The walking trail and animals on the property were cute (there were ducks and turtles when we were there). Didn’t spend a lot of time there. They also have a zip line tour on the property that we did not do. The hotel is central to lots of activities so is a nice spot to call home while exploring the area. Highly recommend.

We stayed for 2 nights in a superior room. As a superior room, it really was large and spacious and clean, and the air conditioner worked well (we had it on most of the time as it was very hot when we arrived). Nice restaurant with outdoor seating and good selection of food and beverages. This is a popular spot with tourists, many with families and it does get a little noisy round the pool. We only used the cool water pool, I'm not sure if the hot water mineral pools were open (seemed to be closed for maintenance). That didn't matter to us as it was so hot we just wanted to cool down. Note that some of the rooms are a distance from the restaurant and reception, and require quite a steep uphill walk (doesn't seem to worry the kids, but may make you puff and pant if you are a bit older). Excellent on-site gift shop. It is located just a little distance from central La Fortuna (probably more than walking distance) but still very handy location, and not far to Arenal. We had a minor problem with our toilet light which they didn't seem to be able to fix, but overall an excellent and highly recommended hotel from travellers in Costa Rica.

What a beautiful resort! Stunning views of Arenal volcano, beautiful walking trails through butterfly gardens, turtle ponds ect. Delicious food. Huge selection at free breakfast buffet. Clean, comfortable rooms. Lots of wildlife in the area. We saw toucans every day, and a wild boar one morning near our patio! I highly recommend this resort!

We stayed here after being at a fancy boutique hotel, so it was a bit of a shock because it is huge and has a busy vibe. However, the food was awesome and price was good. We did the pools in evening and they were a bit busy, but we always found some empty tubs. The room was older and we ran out of hot water on the first day, but the shuttle was quick. Overall, it was a decent mid-range place to stay.

I will start with the good points….. Gardens are great, with hot springs and nice outdoor pools. The bar is excellent. Looks like it’s recently been refurbished, with great decor, comfy furniture, friendly staff and superb cocktails. The restaurant is a bit shabby in parts, but food superb and service friendly. The hotel rooms are in blocks on a very very steep hill, and whilst there is a shuttle bus running around the grounds, there is often quite a wait for service do you need to be pretty fit to get around on foot. There are some fantastic little walks on site, particularly around the large lake which was beautiful. The bad bits… The rooms are very poor, particularly the bathrooms, which whilst large, look like they haven’t been refurbished for 20+ years. Decor and the general feel of the room was dated, and as they are all located on the road around the resort quite noisy with the shuttle bus (and tourist buses) running past all the time. The curtains are not great and don’t block out the light. There were tourist buses arriving constantly with people using hot springs and visiting the volcano lookout. There was also a very large group of school children staying (50+) whilst we were there which made the pool area and breakfast buffet loud and very busy. Some areas were nice - for example the bar, and restaurant toilets were modern and fresh. Reception toilets looked like the rooms - dated and in desperate need of refurbishment. As did the entire reception area, which other than some new sofas, was extremely dated. Staff in the restaurant and bar were friendly, but the girl who checked us in on reception was curt and unhelpful, which combined with the general state of reception wasn’t a great first impression. Could be a great hotel, but I wouldn’t return. There are better hotels in the area for the same or less money

This is a big,well-maintained and very comfortable property. The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. There are lots of amenities and most people seemed to be really enjoying the experience. For me, personally, it seemed very impersonal and left me cold. My room was large and well designed, but there was no sitting area or desk at which to work on my computer and begin to curate my bird photos from the region. (Perhaps most of the clientele is run of the mill average warm weather-seeking tourist.) Very clean with excellent, comfortable bed. And: Good, strong In-room wifi! And A/C. Restaurant was big, nicely designed, welcoming and the food was good and well served. Staff friendly and attentive. The only downside for me was when I spotted a rat scurrying across the dining area. The is probably unexceptional for a virtually all outdoor facility. Oh, yes: There is that authorized-guest bracelet thing on the property.

We were part of a tour group that went for the thermal pools. There were about 20 different pools, varying in size and temperature. Some were more private, while others were large and open. There is an area for locker and towel rental - very reasonable cost. This is a family spot, so kids are around, though seldom in the hot pools. There is a good sized regular pool and a nearby waterslide that was alot of fun; it did empty into a deep pool, so anyone riding it, must be able to swim. At night, the pools are lit, as are the walkways between them; some of the paths are a bit rough on barefeet, but not impossible. There was a bar that you could swim up to or access on land - the food was okay (nothing special, but their pizza oven was neat). Overall, a great experience to relax and enjoy.

The Los Lagos Hotel and Spa Resort is probably better for kids and parents than for couples. It is geared toward families and has plenty of them. The rooms are sizeable and clean. The rooms are generally uphill from the pool and come in several different configurations. Ours was one floor three side-by-side. Van rides are offered to pick you up or bring you back down to the restaurant and main lobby. The pools and slides are accessible and fun, but there is not a lot of solitude or quiet in most of the pools. And yes, there are a lot of pools. The resort receives a good amount of visitors from other nearby hotels that don't have hot and cold pools. The food is all right for breakfast, it is all buffet all of the time so teens can fill up. We did not eat dinner at the restaurant. But, we did have food and drinks at the pool bar. The pina colada comes in a real pineapple which is fun to see and drink from. The staff at the resort are all are friendly.

This hotel is a mixed bag. I really want to give it a better score, so maybe a 3.5. Room (126), and likely the surrounding rooms, need an update. The room was musty and the ac struggled to work. You could hear the kids upstairs running around and the cars right outside of the room- the room sits on a street. This room had a cheap hotel feel. The room was clean and the bed was pretty good. Room is an awesome location. Close to everything. Food is good and reasonably priced. Service is horrible. In the restaurant, Had to wait almost 40 mins for someone to come up to me to ask for my drink order. Had to ask someone at the bar. Spa is pretty. Got an 80 mins massage. The grounds and hot springs are great. Just loved walking around the grounds. Not much to do other then sit in the pools. Nothing extra for the kids to do.

Great hotel with spacious rooms. Great view of the volcano. The resort is quite big so there is a not of walking. The thermal pools were very enjoyable. The breakfast had great options and was well organized. However, I found some of the staff the front office rushed, unfriendly and appeared very stressed out.
