2nd time staying here. Hotel seemed busier this round. So much had changed. Service wasn't as personal but no complaints. Check in was smooth. Was ushered straight to lounge for check-in. Benefits of being an elite member I guess. Breakfast at the lounge was good. However, service wise, the first team was friendly but the same can't be said of the team that took over on Monday. We ended up going to the main breakfast area where there's unexpectedly better service albeit the wider spread and busier crowd.
But there were nice touches. Housekeeping was awesome. Surprised to find nicely folded towel animals on the bed for the first few nights.
Concierge was nice and helpful too. Had a parcel mailed in from Suzhou and they were helpful in helping me locate it despite not having my room number and blur me, did not leave my check in name on the parcel. But the most helpful on the team has got to be Eric. Eric helped me handled 2 boxes of toys which we bought, only to realise it is impossible for us to bring it home on our own. Eric called several courier companies to help to liaise to ship it to SIN. Though I managed to eventually find a shipping company on my own, his efforts to liaise with that company and later a courier to bring the boxes to the warehouse, was awesome. He even went through the lengths of giving me his name card and told me that if I did not receive the goods in time, I could drop him an email and he'll check on his end with the Chinese companies. Then upon checking out, he helped us arrange for transport to the airport.
Awesome service from the housekeeping and concierge more than made up for the lack of personal feel from the lounge and front desk staff. Guess it is still ok to give them their 5 stars. 🤪
P.S. to the GM managing this, pls give my compliments to Eric and tell him I've received the toys in good condition.
Looking forward to another great stay this year end.

Great place for a cocktail and drinks in the bar. Not used a lot in winter but with a Marriott discount card you get cheaper drinks that the local bars which most don't seem to get how to make a cocktail.
Great atmosphere with free nuts and excellent service. No noise or hassle and buses of other bars that now have sarong up around the area.
We did this on two nights and Elsa and Sherry were fantastic at organising the drinks.

Mark from the front desk had an impressive customer service attitude. He chatted with me upon my family check in to see what we need. I asked about where to eat and he was very patient in explanation on the direction, etc.

The room service team knowing I have a young kid and pass me a kid size room slipper without me asking for it. Thumbs up! I will return again.

If I could award six stars I would. From the minute we stepped into the hotel , service was excellent. We struck a deal for an executive upgrade. We were given a beautiful corner room With fantastic views over the city. It was more like a suite. Spotlessly clean, serviced twice a day. Numerous bottles of water provided free of charge. The executive lounge is the best one I’ve ever been in. Breakfast had hot and cold choice. Evening cocktails for 4 hours another extensive buffet laid on, so much so that for two nights we didn’t need to dine out. The staff in the lounge were exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble. Tables cleared immediately , always smiling. The staff on the desk were very helpful with enquires about the metro and checked our onward flight in and printed boarding passes.
Excellent well equipped Gym and full size pool.Sumptuous changing rooms.
Good central position. Easy walk to the people’s square, pedestrian mall and the bund. Don’t hesitate to stay here if you visit Shanghai.

location of hotel is near people's square which has a subway station. the hotel is very near to a Mcdonald, KFC and family mart, in case you need to eat or buy something. It is very near to the new world mall with lot of shops and food to eat. Wifi is available only to hotel guest and when I stayed there was not really that fast but acceptable. Breakfast buffet has a wide choice. new years eve's dinner buffet was hot pot with other food at 219rmb for hotel guest which was quite reasonable for new year's eve.

Stayed here for 5 days at the Club level. It is standard Marriott in every way, which is on the high side of mid level, but not quite full 5 star hotel. Good for company paid solo business travel, but you can do equal or better if paying for yourself or in a group.

The location is ok, not too far to the 2,8,10 (I think, pls verify) subway if sunny and nice, but not too close in the rain. Will require car or subway to French Concession/ Xintiandi in the rain.

This Marriott has the worst pillows compared to all others, the standard ones are rock hard, and even the optional foam pillows are extremely uncomfortable as they are rectangular shaped so the neck is unnaturally elevated. If pillow are important to your hotel selection and you don’t want rock hard pillows, you may not want to stray here.

The walls are also paper thin, so you will hear everything from next door or if near the elevator, you will hear all the conversations.

The breakfast buffet has wide selection and generally tasty. It has little, if any variations for those who has longer stays, the selection remain the same everyday. Also, once something is empty, it takes a long time to refill or none at all, so don’t go after 8am if you want best selection. Also, curiously, sugar for coffee is hard to find, not every table has a sugar tray. So I have to hunt for it every morning from other tables.

Executive lounge is nice and friendly staff, but only Diet Pepsi and no other sugar free soft drink. This is the nicest part of this hotel stay.

The most unacceptable part of this hotel is their lobby staff. The lobby is always crowded and not enough seats for people to sit and wait. There is a large concrete/ marble water fountain where you can sit, but the staff will very rudely tell you you can’t sit there.

Rude staff who don’t let their paying guests to sit in the lobby is unacceptable in any hotel.

Note to hotel management: Inconsiderate and rude comment from your staff will cost you, we spent over 2400 RMB on that dinner that could have been at your restaurant, but had to go to Radisson Blu because your staff won’t let us sit and wait for the group to show up.

Not only we decided to eat elsewhere for our group of 6 for the remaining 5 nights, we will recommended my company to not use this hotel in the future as we often meet in the lobby, this place is just not designed for business groups.

Overall, a 3 star review reduced to 1-Star for staff not letting a paid customer to sit in the lobby.

The inquiry office were very helpful to answer my questions before arrival. They informed me that it was possible check-in earlier in case I arrived early. I was happy to find staff that were able to assist and communicate in English. The a la carte menu in the room makes it easy to order food or drinks that can be delivered in the course of 24 hours of the day. The amenities such as gym, sauna, swimming pool, and steam-bath are available until 11 pm each day. This provides flexible hours for those who need to exercise and keep fit regularly. I needed to extend my stay for a few more days and the process was seamless. Thanks to the front desk staff who were able to answer my questions and communicate in English. The location is great and one is able to walk to the Bund and explore areas near People's square while strolling around. The room service staff do an excellent job ensuring the room is kept immaculately clean.

This Marriott has an exceptionally good location within Shanghai. Right in the middle of the action with easy access to metro and taxis, shopping, and the Bund.

Breakfast was good with a handful of options but not exceptional. Staff were courteous and helpful with requests (extra water, advice on transport times, etc). English was relatively well-spoken and understood by customer-facing staff.

Like other Marriotts', rooms were typical of a 4.5 star hotel, largely business-oriented with a nice bathroom, sizable study desk, and perfectly comfortable bed.

There are many good hotels in Shanghai, with location and price really being my deciding factors. I would recommend this hotel based on its location for anybody who wishes to be right by People's Square & Nanjing Rd.

The location of this hotel puts you in walking distance of the Bund and many other Shanghai City activities. Rooms are large and clean. WiFi is strong. The lobby bar and exercise room are both very nice and were not too crowded. Buffet breakfast is well stocked and has friendly staff.

It was our first trip to Shanghai so we did some research to select this hotel and were very pleased with our decision.

Upon arrival we were offered discounted breakfast, which we accepted for full stay. This decision pleased the person who was checking us in and we were upgraded to a higher level room, which was a pleasant bonus lifting our mood right away.

We come from London and I can assure you that you won’t be able to get such quality accomodation for same price in UK. We had generous size room, bathrobes, free water bottles every day, Nespresso coffee machine with daily refill and umbrella that we used on rainy days. The bed was comfy, the pillows were fluffy, the room has good sound proof so you have a good night rest.
The elevators are silent so people are not disturbed with bells and sounds when they stop at your floor.

Breakfast is very generous: you have European food wing and Chinese food wing for any taste. We tried almost all dishes during our stay and everything was tasty. We were so full that we had been skipping lunches.

Hotel is in walking distance to shopping street, restaurants, multiple coffee places. Please don’t forget to visit Shanghai museum which is 10 min walk. We absolutely loved it, learned a lot of history and bought good quality souvenirs. In front of it there is a relaxing park, a square with music fountain, which are great places to capture memorable photos.

Enjoy your stay!

Take the high-speed rail from Suzhou to Shanghai station and a cab from Shanghai station to the hotel. It will be relatively easy since the train stations have escalators and the transit is smooth.

Probably best to ask the hotel directly. We had a suite which had one full and one half bath. There was a sofa that I believe converted to a sleeper.
