I have stayed in SH many times and this time I decided I wanted to stay somewhere different yet close to everything, and settled on the Metropolo based on it’s proximity to Madang Lu station, Xintiandi and Hua Hai Lu. I checked in early after a morning flight from Wuhan and was pleasantly surprised (as I was for most of my trip) that I could check in and gain access to my room before noon. Reception were friendly and spoke a reasonable amount of English for a Chinese hotel. I had booked a deluxe king which is the largest room they offer and as with the rest of the hotel, the renovation is about a year old and the property is like stepping back into 1930’s Shanghai! The room itself was spacious, has automatic curtains (which I miss now!), typical conveniences you would expect such as slippers, a fridge, but only a small selection of tea, no coffee. The bathroom as previous reviewers have mentioned is very small, and became a little tight for space with two people staying. The hotel has a lovely restaurant which is more or less deserted after breakfast, but a charming lobby and the hotel is surrounded by local food stalls and a few good options for dinner, plus a Starbucks for those who must. Madam Lu station is less than 5 minutes walk, take exit 3, which has an escalator for those with luggage. Xintiandi is around 10 minutes walk (or one stop on the metro). There is a large mall (Capital-land) just on the other side of the road from the station, which has a good selection of restaurants and shops. We loved the Metropolo, and for those wanting to step back in time and experience Shanghai as it might have felt in the 1930’s I’d encourage you to stay here.…
Perfect location in xiantiandi. Very reasonable price. Chinese contemporary in elegant design , room not big but enough space. Clean hotel, good service, good train staff. USB port next to the bed very convenience. Recommended
This place was honestly great. The room were tastefully decorated, clean, comfortable, and quiet. The staff were generally friendly, and the hotel supplied unlimited free water bottles since water in China is not potable without first boiling it. My only feedback is that the bathroom had a sensor on the lights that would turn them all on if you went pee in the middle of the night or off if you fogged up the shower door too much. It would be nice if guests could deactivate this somehow. Otherwise, fantastic hotel for the cost in a good location. I will likely stay here again the next time I'm back in Shanghai.
Will definitely recommend it... Specially for a business traveler Pros + 100 mtr from public transportation + New rooms are very trendy + Staff is delightful + Bed is comfortable + All facilities are available Cons - Rooms are a bit cramped but will do for a business traveler. Families may feel uncomfortable
This hotel is not smack in the middle of town but just a short walk from Madang Rd subway station so easily reachable. The room was smallish but tastfully and thoughtfully decorated (e.g. with usb phone charging ports built into many of the AC outlets). Bathroom was smallish but comfortable and stylish as well. Closet space was not overwhelming but okay. We did not have breakfast at the hotel so no information on that. When we were there, it seemed very quiet, possibly because the hotel is relatively new. We had a non-smoking room but at times the scent of smoke hung heavily in the hallway. Wifi was very reliable; the ethernet socket did not carry an internet signal.
