This hotel has a great location situated between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and very close to the airport metro station. It can at first be hard to find, and you must take elevator/lift up to the ground level and then walk across (outdoors) to the reception building. The receptionist staff have great English skills (as to be expected from airport hotel) and very efficient at checking in, international guests. I got my room is less than 3 mins (exceptional for any Chinese hotel!). I paid for a room with airport / terminal views. The room is largely a side view room, and you see planes (very distance) from both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. As this hotel is not be part of western hotel chain, there are no English channels on the TV, and you have can expect all the normal internet restrictions being in China. No google, no facebook, no youtube, and no yahoo email, so an internet connection may not be useful for many people, unless you have a VPN, that works in China. The bed is OK and room size is compact. The corridors/passage ways around the hotel do not have air-conditioning and its is very hot in summer and they lack lightening. There is convenience store in the hotel, but is very pricey for all goods. The price of water is 3 times the price of Family Mart in downtown Shanghai. Note: There are lot cheaper airports hotels on line 2 (just one metro stop form the airport) like Holiday Inn Express, which may be a better alternative with bigger rooms and lower cost. However, the convenience of being in the airport, will make the Da Zhong hotel a wise choice for many tourists in transit.

This hotel is ideal for transit or if you have odd hour flights. Located between terminals 1 and 2 of Pudong airport, a lift at the entrance of Maglev gives you access to the lobby. Food is available at the terminal but make no mistake, this hotel is in Pudong airport, almost nothing around. Room were fine, took 1 with a view on airport, bathroom clean with basic amenities provided. The staff do not seem too courteous.

The transit hotel at Shanghai Pudong airport is convenient and no hassle. Check in was efficient, but check out can take a while if there are a lot of people trying to catch a morning flight. Hotel is an easy to walk from either terminal even with a luggage cart. I wheeled mine right into the room and then back to the terminal the next morning. Breakfast is mediocre Chinese food, so if you prefer something better, eat at the airport where there are many brand restaurants. My rooms have been clean and comfortable, but not large and some smell of residual cigarette smoke. But... this is China.

Have stayed here a couple of times before and the convenience of the location of the hotel is excellent. This time however that’s where all the good points ended. We booked a room for 2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 10) the site recommended a room which I booked. When we arrived we received a very small room with only one double bed inside. Admittedly this was mentioned on the listing, so my fault. However according to the website this is suitable for 2 adults and 2 kids, so I had assumed there was a sofa or something. There was not and it is not suitable for families. We asked politely if there was a room we could upgrade to. The lady behind the desk said no bluntly without even making eye contact. Other bad points. The Wi-Fi doesn’t work at all, there’s no cellphone reception at all. The shower leaks through the glass in the room, the hair dryer has a sticker saying it will stop working when it has been used for a long time. Well the long time is around a minute after which you need to wait 15 mins before being able to use it again. Plus the staff are rude.

Stayed 1 night with wife and 8 year old son.

First, it is really difficult to get to the hotel with a taxi. The roads are not clearly marked, the taxi (didi) had to drive a couple of rounds and go against traffic to get to the hotel due to the construction around the area.

However if you have a really early flight, there is really not much choice. This is right smack in the middle of the two terminals and an easy 5 to 10 min walk to either.

There are two towers so check in at the correct tower. From what i see there is not much difference.

Rooms are very basic and bare. Good for a single night stay.
No breakfast and there is a convenience store at the hotel.
You can get food/massage as well but we opted to go to the terminals to take away food.

Hotel Room: 3 Stars (basic and bare room)
Room View: 3 Stars (view of the other tower)
Service of Staff: 3 Stars (Not exactly very friendly nor helpful attitude)
Lounges/Restaurants: NA
Room Service: NA
Location: 5 Stars (Nearest hotel to the airport terminals without taking a cab)

Very convenient as a reasonable priced one night stay for an early flight. The terminals are a short walk from the hotel. But…
The hotel is not foreigner friendly; one obscure tv channel in English, no helpful information on services, check in very slow, limited toilet paper, kettle but no tea or coffee.
Our room had no working A/C and it’s noisy with the window open.. not a big issue in December but could be when it gets a bit warmer.
Confusingly rooms numbered 6xxx are accessed by floor 5 in the lift.

Compared to all other similar priced hotels we have experienced, this is poor.

Does the job for a last minute overnight at PVG. Nice room. Good hot shower. English speaking check in at 2:30 in the morning. Saw a small bar and convenient shop. Easy walk from the airport. There are two towers, each with their own checkin so it’s a 50/50 shot of going to the right counter for your reservation.

This is a question.
Next week we will arrive from Bangkok, sleep in Da Zhong an leave to Amsterdam.
When arriving, what to do? Which procedure to follow?
Do we go for the desk with "entrance to China" and ask for a short visum?
Or do we not pass immigration and stay in the "transit area?

Two weeks ago we arrived in Pudong from Amsterdam. We had a 4 hour stopover and depart to Bangkok.
That was a terrible experience. After leaving the plane we were directed to the airport train that brought us from (not sure) terminal 1 to another terminal.
After leaving the train we came in a very long queue of approx 500 people waiting for a closed door. Now and then, the door was opened, 10 people could proceed to 4 passport check desks. We have been standing in this line for 4 hours and almost missed our connecting plane to Bangkok.
I fear a similar horror scenario for our return flight next week.
Any advice is very welcome!

The hotel does not cater for foreigners at all and allow the massage shop within the hotel to operate as a scam.
When the massage place tried to demand more money and followed me around the lobby the staff didnt care and said it’s for me to deal with, yet they are very happy to list it as one of the hotels facilities.
The wifi is free indeed but none existent

I stayed in this hotel one night only on my way back to Shanghai after my flight was delayed to the following morning. Not bad for a mid-range airport hotel. The room and bathroom were very new. The bed had the slimmest mattress I have ever slept on in my life - not great! Overall it’s a good choice for one night before you catch your early morning flight. You are literally a 8-10 minutes walk from the check in desks.

When you book it will give you the choice or renovated rooms. This is what we got and they were great. Really good shower. So close to terminal. We caught very fast train in and out of Shanghai to fill in time. Then back to hotel for shower and onto plane at 7pm.

We had a similar layover, arrived in the morning and left later that night. We only booked one night and did not have a problem with early check in immediately upon arrival. You would have to book one full night at least but I think they are used to travelers coming in at various hours of the day/night because it is primarily booked by for layover purposes. Quite a large hotel so hopefully you have no problem getting in right away! Look around online for various prices.

You certainly need a visa to enter China proper however this hotel, basic as it is, is on airport property and if you're just transiting and it's just overnight, you don't need a visa. It's all quite easy if you can put up with the surliness of the staff.
