First, it is really difficult to get to the hotel with a taxi. The roads are not clearly marked, the taxi (didi) had to drive a couple of rounds and go against traffic to get to the hotel due to the construction around the area.
However if you have a really early flight, there is really not much choice. This is right smack in the middle of the two terminals and an easy 5 to 10 min walk to either.
There are two towers so check in at the correct tower. From what i see there is not much difference.
Rooms are very basic and bare. Good for a single night stay.
No breakfast and there is a convenience store at the hotel.
You can get food/massage as well but we opted to go to the terminals to take away food.
Hotel Room: 3 Stars (basic and bare room)
Room View: 3 Stars (view of the other tower)
Service of Staff: 3 Stars (Not exactly very friendly nor helpful attitude)
Lounges/Restaurants: NA
Room Service: NA
Location: 5 Stars (Nearest hotel to the airport terminals without taking a cab)
The hotel is not foreigner friendly; one obscure tv channel in English, no helpful information on services, check in very slow, limited toilet paper, kettle but no tea or coffee.
Our room had no working A/C and it’s noisy with the window open.. not a big issue in December but could be when it gets a bit warmer.
Confusingly rooms numbered 6xxx are accessed by floor 5 in the lift.
Compared to all other similar priced hotels we have experienced, this is poor.
Next week we will arrive from Bangkok, sleep in Da Zhong an leave to Amsterdam.
When arriving, what to do? Which procedure to follow?
Do we go for the desk with "entrance to China" and ask for a short visum?
Or do we not pass immigration and stay in the "transit area?
Two weeks ago we arrived in Pudong from Amsterdam. We had a 4 hour stopover and depart to Bangkok.
That was a terrible experience. After leaving the plane we were directed to the airport train that brought us from (not sure) terminal 1 to another terminal.
After leaving the train we came in a very long queue of approx 500 people waiting for a closed door. Now and then, the door was opened, 10 people could proceed to 4 passport check desks. We have been standing in this line for 4 hours and almost missed our connecting plane to Bangkok.
I fear a similar horror scenario for our return flight next week.
Any advice is very welcome!
When the massage place tried to demand more money and followed me around the lobby the staff didnt care and said it’s for me to deal with, yet they are very happy to list it as one of the hotels facilities.
The wifi is free indeed but none existent
