Set on a coral and sand fringed atoll within a stunning marine sanctuary, Treasure Island is one of Fiji's most iconic resorts, with over 40 years' experience in providing hospitality and friendship to travellers from across the globe. The island caters especially to families, honeymooners and true romantics seeking a unique and unforgettable island holiday experience. Treasure Island is one of the only resorts in the Mamanuca Islands to offer same day transfers, which means that you arrive on our island paradise the same day you arrive in Fiji. Treasure Island is unique as our traditional land owners, the Nakelo Clan, own full 100% of the resort and members of the clan hold many key positions, so our team (or as they prefer to be called, hosts) have a vested interest in delivering a truly authentic Fijian experience. This genuine hospitality is contagious and the main reason we have so many return guests. In fact one couple has visited us 85 times! Why don't you come experience for yourself what is unique and special about our island paradise.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon on Treasure Island 40 years ago, and returned to celebrate 40 years later. Treasure Island is the only Fijian Island owned by the traditional owners of the land, and they are very proud of this. It was purchased in 2019 (I think) just before covid and they have also endured cyclones, so they are still playing 'catch up'. It is clear they have really taken a hit. The buildings were tired and needed maintenance. The service was very slow and the food was often cold. The menu didn't change much. Wifi was poor. But we were made to feel welcome and the staff did everything they could to make our holiday one to remember. Liku, Solomon, Saki, Jim, Alita, Ravve were wonderful. Don't expect too much. This is not 5 stars. It is a place to simply 'be' and enjoy the sea, sand, people and 'Island Time'. There's so much more I could write.....

Honestly I am not sure why this place has been given bad reviews. It’s wonderful. Is it 5star, no BUT they really try hard. We are from the USA and to have ice cream on an island is AMAZING!!!! We would choose this place over many in Hawaii. The people are so friendly, our room was clean with comfortable beds. The kids loved the turtle and fish feeding. This was our second trip (first in 2019) and they have improved a lot of the resort. Yes, the food service is slow and the food isn’t always hot hot but if you come knowing you are going to wait, order appropriately it’s all good. I’ve been to plenty of expensive places and would stay here hands down over the more expensive resorts. If you want a family friendly, gorgeous reef, beach to die for, and super friendly staff who bend over backwards to be accommodating this is your place. I hope more travelers come so they can get even better at making holidays special.

Such an idyllic Island, the kids loved the pool, beach and turtle sanctuary. The food was quite overpriced and we were led to believe there was a kids buffet included each in the price each night but on 3 nights it wasn’t available so we had to order off the menu for them which was not free. We enjoyed the close knit, smaller vibe of the resort and definitely want to go back. It’s a great place to relax but after 3-4 days we were ready for a bit more adventure but that’s just us being active relaxers.

Our second visit to this beautiful island that is truely a Fijian experience. For all the negative reviews you must remember it is an island in the middle of the pacific so you can’t have expectations of a resort on the mainland. We loved our stay as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids teens). There is no TV in the rooms and patchy wifi but we come to the island to reconnect and ditch your regular routine. Yes the food options are limited and not served all that hot but it’s a magical place and we have just amazing memories each visit. The staff are truely wonderful all have an interest in looking after their guests. All funds stay local within the community who run the resort. The resort fisherman took my son out at 5pm and showed him how to catch fish off the beach with a hand line (free). Daily activities team make an ordinary game of mini golf in to a fabulous competition adults and kids a like (it’s free). The happy hour cocktail (1/2 price for an hour) is a favourite time of day. The sun going down and you look out over the water the sunset (free). The staff work so hard to keep the island looking it’s best and events such as covid and the two cyclones have not helped with recovery. So yes things won’t be perfect. But you adapt. We loved the 10.30am fish feeding where if you are brave can jump off the boat and snorkel back to shore amazing (and free). We will be back again as our kids love then island, the staff, the hammocks scattered around the accomodation and the pace (Fiji time). A great family get away for some R&R and fabulous family memories. Thank you to the team at Treasure Island 🏝️

My partners and I spend 3 days on the island and by the end of day 3 we were more than happy to leave. The food on the island was of extremely poor standard, so much to the piont that on the second night we ordered from the kids menu rather than the ala carte while on the third night we opted against eating dinner at all and just waited out for the continental breakfast the following morning. All of these factors are doable if the prices weren’t so high , you’d be expecting 5 star service for the cost And it was far from that. On a plus side the staff are quite nice in particular the male contingent. Receptionists could be a lot friendlier as any time we had to go to reception we felt we were a burden to them. I’d advise doing some investigating into your transport between island. We were charged an outstanding amount of $140fjd to get a 5 minute boat ride to the South Sea ferry which we then had to pay extra for once getting on. All in all I don’t recommend treasure island there are much nicer accommodation/islands around for affordable and reasonable rates.

My fourth visit to Treasure Island. Very disappointed. The resort is very run down. Concrete path around the resort is not safe in places where tree roots are breaking it down. Poor lighting at night doesn't help. Cistern in Bure ran 24/7 Toilet door did not close properly. Sliding door had crack across the bottom glass panel. There is a large pile of rotting bags just before the Spa area, the smell is terrible. There are other piles of rubbish and leaves waiting to be burned. Our bure was large and clean for 3 adults. Food however was another story. 6 days of lukewarm meals. Meals are not served when they are cooked. We were told that the person on the pass had been removed. The entrance to the kitchen has a filthy wall. A good scrub with sugar soap could sort that if it can't be painted. At lunch I noticed a wait staff member pick up a Bain Marie cover that had fallen to the floor. It went straight back onto the food. Where is the HACCAP training ? It's so easy to become sick if basic food hygiene isn't followed. Our Happy hour was a hit and miss. Drinks were very slow to arrive at the table. Again, not enough wait staff. The Wednesday evening Manager's cocktail party with free drinks, promised by the travel agent did not happen. I feel food buffets were kept to a minimum and empty plates or dishes not replenished quickly enough. Fortunately, the Teppanyaki was a big hit. The chef went out of his way to make our night enjoyable. The toilets in the public area were disgusting. Lack of soap and loose taps. A different style of bin for paper towels is needed as people miss the bin. OR install a hand dryer. Would save buying paper towels. There is no information in your bure to tell you what is happening around the resort. There is a large board outside the dining area, but, if you don't know this island, you may not know where to look. If you book Teppanyaki, and are on a meal package. Ask for the credit back. Price drops to $50 instead of $105. This information isn't volunteered by staff. Ask for a running total of your bill daily. More than once the Happy Hour drinks were charged at full price. When you sign the docket, write the time too. Hopefully in time they will get back on track.

We cannot stop talking about the people who make our stay so comfortably And went beyond their means for us. Henry and his choir was there with his guitar to welcome & farewell us. Little things are very dear and usually overlook at but not at Treasure Island. We are very thankful for the love and hospitality during our stay. Bula song is in our heads Vinaka to all.

Needs lots of improvement. Meals took 1.5 hours to be delivered to our table and they were never hot, this was our biggest disappointment. Hot water system on the back of every unit but it didn’t stay hot enough for a shower although others said theirs was ok. Island hopping 1,440fjd for 4 hours. Beds were firm but ok. Rooms were large. Staff amazing but they need to have training, especially in the kitchen. Cocktails were 31fjd, kids buffet at night 35fjd, adults buffet 90fjd same as teppanyaki. Water is lovely but you need reef shoes. I know they had problems during Covid and they have cyclones but how long can you blame that.

We traveled as a group of 10, composed of 6 adults and 4 kids aged between 4 and 9. It was our first time staying at Treasure Island. THE ISLAND The resort is smaller than previous ones we've stayed at in Fiji and elsewhere, but it is very charming. The island itself is quite small - it only takes about 10 mins to walk around. It is surrounded by gorgeous turquoise water, a shallow lagoon and a coral reef. There is a golden sandy beach on one side and a rocky shore around the rest. Bures are dotted around the edge of the island. Generally it looks like the resort wasnt maintained for a couple or years during COVID and now they are playing catch up. Some areas are undergoing repair/renovation and are screened off by plastic barriers or fences. Some debris from past demolition (broken timber, ducting, concrete, etc) is discretely piled up in a few places around the island but it seems to have been there for some time. Nothing major but a bit unsightly. WILDLIFE The lagoon and reef are teeming with fish, which is good to see. The reef in particular is the best thing about this island. It is home to a huge alrange of tropical fish and plentiful coral - some of the best we have seen. The Island is also home to baby turtles, a variety of tropical parrots and other birds, fruit bats and a couple of caged iguanas. Great stuff. ROOMS We stayed in the beachfront bures and I'd recommend them over garden view ones, if you can afford the extra cost. The rooms are modern and tidy, equipped with modern amenities (note, no TV, similar to other Mamanuca islands). We found the mattress firm but very comfortable. We have nothing bad to say about the rooms. The cleaners do an excellent job of cleaning the rooms, and I'd like to give a special shout to our cleaner Sayee who went above and beyond. WATER SPORTS We snorkelled in the lagoon and on the reef every day, and it was lovely. Snorkels, masks and flippers are available to borrow for free, but we brought our own. Kayaks are also free to use, but there are only 4 or 5 so they weren't always available when we wanted them. Low point: The resort had a couple of jetskis but they were out of order for the whole week we were there, which was disappointing. Jet ski operators from other resorts seemed to come and go from the island but there seemed to be no way to organise a trip with them through the resort, so we missed out. WIFI AND MOBILE SIGNAL Something to be aware of: WiFi is only available in the reception/bar area, and it is very unreliable (usually not working). We suspect they use a basic household router rather than a business one because it was overwhelmed whenever there were a lot of people around (e.g. almost all meal times). Mobile data (roaming) is only occasionally available on the island. The island relies on a mobile antenna on another island and does not consistently get signal. Not the place to stay connected. TEPPANYAKI Both adults and children in our party enjoyed the teppanyaki. It is worth doing. Special shout out to Biss the chef. SPA Most adults in our party had massages at the Spa, with mixed reviews. I enjoyed mine, it was just the right amount of pressure. However we had a few problems (once the masseusse wasn't there when we arrived for our booked appointment, and another time we were turned away from our booked appointment because staff were looking at the wrong day's schedule). As you'll see below, these kinds of staffing mistakes are a bit of a theme at Treasure Island (and they generally make things less enjoyable than they should be). KIDS CLUB The kids club is Ok. It runs morning, afternoon and evening sessions. Our kids usually attended one or two sessions each day. They had a good time overall, though there are some points that the resort needs to address. The supervision of the kids is sometimes inadequate. On their first day, the two boys from our group (ages 7 and 9) wandered off from kids club and weren't followed or stopped by staff. Worse, our youngest daughter (aged 4) also wandered off and ended up crying in reception, where she was found by a passing member of our family! We didn't have any more issues like this after the first day but it was pretty alarming. LAUNDRY A laundry area/washing machine is listed among the facilities. In fact, the one washing machine is out of order and half full or stagnant water (for who knows how long). Apparently the resort does offer a laundry service but it's not advertised at all, and we ended up washing clothes in the basins in our room. NEGATIVES: Most of the above sounds positive but there are quite a few negatives to be aware of before staying at this resort. These things really bring down the whole experience. What's particularly frustrating is that most if not all of these things could be easily fixed if the staff and management had the will to do it. FOOD AND DRINKS This was the low point of the holiday, to be honest. The quality and variety of the food is pretty poor for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and you'll see the same few dishes served every day. It became a bit of a running joke in our group that we knew what they would be offering in the buffet before even walking into the restaurant, and no one looked forward to yet another plate of okra and carrot curry, overcooked rice, wedges and grilled fish for lunch. Breakfast is an American buffet (cereal, toast, jam and spreads, juice) and a range of hot dishes (eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, pancakes). However the hot food is all cooked to order, and it typically took 30-40 minutes to arrive. Usually it arrived cold, lukewarm at best. Pancakes were tough and chewy, and eggs often not as ordered. No idea why it arrives cold. My guess is it just sits there forever waiting for a server to pick it up and bring it to the table. The Kids Buffet starts at 5:30pm but doesn't get replenished so if you get there at 6:00 or 6:30, you're left to pick through the scraps. Again the food in the kids buffet is typically cold or lukewarm (unsure how food is already cold at 5:30 but there you go). Sometimes it contained real kids favourites like steamed okra (!). The lunch and dinner buffets are very similar to one another, vary very little one day to the next, and always cold or lukewarm. There is a limited la carte menu for lunch and dinner, which doesn't change much day to day. Arguably the meals are better quality than the buffet but it gets repetitive. There was cutlery on the tables only one day out of 8. The rest of the time we had to go looking for it when we got to the restaurant. Some days we found it stacked on a table outside. Other days there was none at all and we had to ask for it at the bar. Even something as simple as getting a knife and fork became an unnecessary challenge! And don't forget, you are paying through the nose for this disappointing food since you're on an island. SERVICE Some real disappointments here. In the evening, drinks usually took between half an hour and 45 minutes to arrive at our table. We waited for one hour and 40 minutes for our drinks one night. The happy hour had long since ended before they arrived! About one in five drink orders simply never showed up. The bar staff seemed to lose or misplace dockets frequently (or spill drinks on them), but you would only find this out when you gave up waiting and went to the bar to ask after your order. It was normal to see frustrated people going to the bar to ask where their drinks were, drinks sitting on the bar for 15 or 20 mins waiting for a server to pick them up. We saw people give up and you heard constant awkward jokes from other guests about whether you would actually receive what you ordered. We saw frustrated people help themselves to drinks that were sitting on the bar waiting to be taken to tables, even if they were meant for other people. Adults in our party ordered a la carte desserts, only to be told an hour later they had run out. Why wait an hour to tell us?? Hopefully they were taken off the bill. Some tables had table numbers but many did not, so you would see servers wandering around the tables trying to find the people who ordered the food or drinks they were carrying. Tables they did have numbers didn't consistently have the same numbers (they changed some of them each day). Why do that?! We even had one staff member swap our table number with another table after we had ordered, so our order went to the other table (luckily we intercepted it). It's just poorly organised and needlessly exasperating. We haven't encountered it at any of the other places we've stayed at in Fiji (or elsewhere). It could all be improved by implementing some basic processes and sticking to them. RESTAURANT/BAR AREA TOILETS These are situated between the restaurant, reception and shop. They're a disgrace. In the ladies toilet, one out of three was our of order, and one had a broken toilet seat, leaving only one toilet fully usable. Hardly any hand soap, they ran out of hand towels, they put out face tissues to compensate but they just tear apart in your hands. In the gents, both urinals were out of action. What sort of impression does this leave? POOL The pool is nicely situated and pretty but - wait for it - it always had large leaves floating in it and didn't appear to be cleaned the whole time we were there. It had dark slimy algae on all the walls below the water line. Yuck. Note that its a salt water pool, which we didn't mind but some might. CONCLUSION Be sure to read reviews before booking at this resort. There are likely nicer places for the budget.
