Travellers' Choice
Matamanoa Island is an intimate and secluded adults only Fijian resort. We are set in the beautiful Mamanuca Islands approximately 30 kilometers west of Nadi International Airport - experience a true gift of nature. The Island boasts a volcanic cone jutting out of the azure waters of this unspoiled marine sanctuary. Clad with native bush and palm trees, the brilliance of the vegetation contrasts magnificently with the white curved sandy beaches and pristine coral reefs. Combined with nature, we have created a haven for those who want to relinquish the pressures of a busy lifestyle. This is for those who dream of peace and tranquility. To achieve this special atmosphere, Matamanoa Island Resort has adopted a year round policy of not permitting day-trippers or children under the age of 16 years.

My wife and I were on our honeymoon in Fiji, and it was regrettable that our honeymoon had been ruined, to say the least, by our experience at Matamanoa resort. We both developed a severe rash over our four limbs after bedbug bites, it has been one months and the marks are still there. On the first night of our stay, we already experienced itchiness, but we thought these were due to mosquito bites. On the second night, at around 0230, our rash got much worse and we couldn’t sleep due to the itchiness and pain. We then searched our bedsheet and found a couple of bedbugs, which were clearly the cause of our rash. We immediately rushed out to the reception, but sadly nobody was on duty. We stayed up all night and finally was able to speak to your staff at the reception at 0700. Though it was not until 0745 that a general manager, finally showed up to deal with this case. We then verbally agreed to have full refund and leave the island one day earlier. Pro: - This is not a 4 star hotel definitely. Room is poor and worn down ( and have bedbugs) - Food is basic and small portion but expensive - Hygiene level not up to standard ( I saw a big mouse running in the bar, and cockroach outside my room ) - Nobody (not even a security guard) on night duty so no one will deal with the emergency. - Inattentive service and fail to restock towel in room Con: - Full refunded after negotiation

I would give all of the staff 5 stars except the Bartender. He was not friendly and actually made us uncomfortable. It was like we were a bother to him. I have also seen others making the same comments on here. Hoping the manager sees this and has a chat with him about his attitude. We were here 10 years ago and the staff were all exceptional. They used to have an afternoon tea but now don’t. They should bring it back. Seems like they are cutting corners. The cushions on the chairs were dirty and need to be cleaned. We found the food not as good. I would give it maybe 3 stars. And the ice cream was always pink. The Caesar salad is not a Caesar salad in any shape or form. Weird. They used to make real Caesar salad at your table and it was fantastic! They charge you for tea and coffee at the bar which is nuts. They need to come up with some decent Mocktails too! The few they had all had ice cream. Again weird. Our absolutely Favorite thing was the dinner entertainment. 3 guys playing guitars and singing. They are Superb. At the end of dinner they announce who has arrived and a big Bula!! Then they announce who is leaving. After that they sing the Goodbye Song which will bring tears to your eyes. It is so Beautiful. They sound like a beautiful Fiji choir. I again had tears in my eyes. I will miss Matamanoa! If the food was better, and they had afternoon tea, some decent Mocktails and a friendly Bartender and cleaner nicer cushions, I would give it 5 stars.

From the moment you set your foot on the island of Matamanoa you feel the warmth from the kind and friendly staff. Everyone is smiling and make you feel welcome and seen all the time, wherever you meet. The island has beautiful Villas with private pools and beach bures with access direct to the sea. The restaurant offers a selection of various dishes from the a la carte menu for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The pool area is also a place where you can have light lunch or a drink at night accompanied by live music. Indeed the music and singing is another happy event at the much appreciated Matamanoa resort. Must try!

This hotel cuts too many corners wherever possible. - The restaurant service here is exceptionally slow. It's not just slow; it's practically non-existent. - The quality of food falls short of what one would expect from a 4-star hotel. I strongly advise against ordering any beef or steak; it's far from good quality. In fact, the food overall is below standard. Take a look at the photo of the burger for reference. - The staff appears dispirited and inattentive. - While the rooms aren't dirty, numerous details don't meet the expected 4-star quality. - The wine glasses you get are the smallest one I’ve ever seen. - Room service consistently fails to restock shampoo and bathroom towels. - If you need anything attended to, you have to approach the staff multiple times before any action is taken. - It's worth noting that there's a 4% surcharge for credit card payments. - Also, the hotel failed to reply to multiple emails before my arrival. Anecdote: When I approached the bar and made eye contact with the bartender, I offered a friendly smile and a warm greeting. To my surprise, I received only an apathetic stare in return. The bartender didn't respond with even a simple "hi" back. Instead, he turned away to prepare my drink.

Arrived by helicopter from Nadi Airport. It’s a must to come in style. Only 7 minutes with great views of neighbouring islands. We didn’t have to endure 2 hours by boat like others on choppy waves. Stayed at one of the villas(53). Enjoyed quiet location of the island. Pictures of the beaches from internet are stunning, but when you get here it’s not what one expects. Half of the island beaches are covered with large stones, lava rocks virtually impossible to enter sea. That doesn’t really matter as you come here to relax. More than half of the staff employed here are in desperate need of training in customer service. It seemed to us that they don’t really want to be there. Often bored, spending endless time on their phones. Grumpy looking faces without any smile. One arrives for breakfast in the morning, 7 tables are waiting for the orders to be taken and yet staff are on the phone or standing somewhere in in corner ignoring everyone. Food often arrives cold. In desperate need of freshly ground pepper. Even thou we stayed in one of the most expensive villas cleaning lady would not come until well after 3 pm. Cheap rooms on the island would be always cleaned at 10 am.

What I loved about this place, other than the staff, is the fact that there is only one tv in the communal lounge (and it's hardly ever on), and I couldn't see any clocks anywhere. You really are encouraged to relax and it's easy to forget what time and day it is. This, along with wifi only being accessible in the communal lobby area and restaurant means you can, if you want, get away from everything..... There is only 1 restaurant and they change the evening menu everyday, so you don't get bored and the food is very good. Beds are comfortable and there are activities you can sign up to throughout the day. The welcome and farewell rituals are very special.

We had a resort room. Comfortable and good air con . Meals were excellent though you have to adjust to Fiji time. Nothing happens quickly , so slow but friendly service. Sadly the weather was very mixed. Thunderstorms, high winds and rough seas but when the sun came out it was beautiful. Mostly couples on a romantic outing. Local musicians most evenings. Ranged from excellent to mournful howling. Reminded me of cats fighting at night!

I was absolutely blown away by the awe-inspiring beauty of this magical place, hidden in the South Pacific of beautiful Fiji. The natural surroundings, white sand and crystal blue beach is spectacular to enjoy, whilst exploring the island with various activities and engaging in the traditional Fijian culture. The food, service and staff at the resort were incredibly warm, kind and friendly from the moment we arrived to the moment we had to say farewell. I loved every moment of this holiday experience and will always cherish the precious memories created on this beautiful Island resort.

Spectacular island with incredible views from all parts of the resort. The staff go above and beyond to assist with any request, the rooms, burrees and villas are beautiful. The swimming and snorkelling is the best I have ever experienced. The breakfast was very tasty each morning and the dinners were equally as nice (they also have a vegetarian menu on request). The only constructive feedback as it would have been nicer to have more activities and engagement in the evening. And the resort mostly attracts couples and honey mooners who keep to themselves, so best not to travel here if your solo.
