This was an incredible place to stay--quiet, relaxing, and undemanding. The staff is all friendly, and within a day, they were calling me by name. As an adults-only resort, it makes the place much more enjoyable, since there isn't screaming or yelling and no crazy activity at the main pool. The food and drink are all good too! Highly recommended if you're looking to relax and just get away from everything, or have a special, memorable vacation.
To get there, you have to travel by boat or ship from Nadi, Fiji. Both South Sea Cruises and the Malolo Cat are the typical ways one would arrive, and you need to coordinate ahead of time with the resort so they can ensure their boat meets you to take you to the resort. When you arrive, you're immediately welcomed by singers. Accommodations range from bures with pools to bures without dipping pools. They all have outdoor showers (I never actually used the indoor shower), a small refrigerator, and an AC unit. There aren't any TVs. Wifi internet is available in the common areas.
Breakfast is included, but lunch and dinner are either by meal plan or charged to your room for payment at check-out. The meals were all excellent, and the way it worked out for me, it was way cheaper to just pay for each meal rather than go for a meal plan. There's a variety of choices at dinner as well, which change from day to day. I really liked the BLT with fries at lunch; their fries were really good!
Customer service is excellent. I was able to arrange for a day trip back to Nadi to do a little sightseeing, and the staff helped arranged that. After a few days, I had begun learning the names of the staff as well, because they are all so friendly.
There are daily activities, like snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, a village visit. Some may cost extra--like snorkeling to a location away from the resort or visiting a village. But if you want free activities, you can snorkel or kayak right from the beach. There's daily fish feeding too. For extra cost, you can have a private dinner on the pier or watch the sunset from a private point.
Sunsets and happy hour are a special time, and the resort has a superb view for sunsets.
At the end of my five-night stay, I was really sad to leave because I felt so relaxed and happy.

Pros Beautiful location, bar is set right up on the water, beautiful sunsets. The daily fish feeding on the jetty was a highlight for us!
Most staff were friendly and very attentative, drinks were reasonably priced for fiji standards and food was more than acceptable with the dinner menu changing every day so this gave some good variety. The included breakfast had a basic buffet of fruit, cereals, pastries, muffins, ham, cheese, yoghurt and chia puddings and juicer to make your own fresh juice as well as a menu of hot items to choose from (pancakes, corn fritters, omelettes etc) and unlimited tea and plunger coffee. Barista coffee could be ordered at an extra charge.
We stayed in a sanctuary pool suite which was a decebt size with good sitting area and quite private and set up behind the main restaurant/reception area. We had our own private plunge pool, the suite had double sinks, double shower and an outdoor shower. A king bed, mini fridge. Turn down service every night and were provided print off of the planned activities for the next day
We enjoyed sitting by the bar on the waterfront in the afternoons and watching the sunset and marine life swim by, one of the barman "V" was very helpful and very attentative! He helped arrange a driver and other activties in sigatoka after we left tropica and tried to help us organise another trip with locals.. but the weather ruined our plans.
Snorkelling right off the Jetty was pretty good with lots of fish to see. I hear the snorkelling at the outer reefs and rock island was also very good, but didnt get a chance to do this due to the weather
Cons The weather was unfavourable and all watersports and excursions were cancelled up until the last 2 days and even then it was not great. They were a little unorganised and alot of the time other activties planned didnt happen. It would have been good if the planned land based activties went ahead or even better if additional activities were planned on bad weather days.
Even though the resort is on malolo island you are very restricted, theres no access to the other island resorts and you can only walk about 5min in either direction of the resort jetty. This was quite dissapointing as I had read about hikes on the island.. but these were not accessible. The bar by the water was closed from approx 3- 5pm drinks could be ordered at restaurant / pool bar but it would have be nice to order directly at waterfront front bar in the afternoons
Feedback to management A small gym, and some more land based activties and walking tracks/ trails would be a welcome addition as well as more resort organised activities/ tours available at affordable prices eg handline fishing, island hopping, guided kayak tours, cooking classes, fire walking etc.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend to others and would return!

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
My partner and I stayed for 5 nights during the off-peak season (December) using a package from MyFiji Holidays. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating, which made the stay even better. Staff went above their standard duties, making us special cocktails off the menu and even a hand woven coconut leaf hat after we attended a Fijian weaving experience.
The amenities are all you could need for a mix of relaxation and adventure. The snorkel gear and kayak were available as we needed. There was a coral reef right in front of the resort beach and a small rock island only a 10min kayak from the resort with abundant wildlife - reef fish, reef shark, stingrays, turtles and starfish! The water was walk-in temperature. There wasn’t really any need to leave the resort as there were so many activities to do there.
The massage hut was perched on a point overlooking the water - no need for music with the natural ambiance. The staff were so lovely and happy to chat. They had a guest pool with bar service in the pool, overlooking the beach. We also had a private plunge pool and an outdoor shower at the room, which were lovely to use in privacy. The rooms were spacious and clean with aircon and huge a bed.
There was a daily schedule filled with included activities (ceviche demo, coconut tree use, basket weaving, sports) and additional cost activities (island picnics, snorkel trips, visit to a floating restaurant). We attended a Meke (Fijian dance) with a Lovo (underground oven) dinner, which was fun to experience.
We would love to come back to enjoy the hospitality of Tropica Island staff and Fijians!

Most outstanding welcoming on arrival at the resort and even better on departure. Visibly high staff to patron ratio. Staff always politely greeting, welcoming, approachable, offering to be of assistance. (Includes maintenance and other back of house staff) Restaurant staff and activities staff were on top of their game. Kayaking, snorkelling and coconut husking were the favourites.
The environment / atmosphere in common areas promoted mingling with other guests and staff. Community / family feel.
Rooms were more that suitable, window insect screens were intact, fans, aircon, indoor and outdoor showers was a nice touch. There were no mosquitoes around, but we did notice mosquito repellent coils provided in the room.
Definitely one of the best resorts we’ve stayed at.

We arrived on the ferry from Nadi harbor and Tropica staff meet us and brought us aboard their boat to their resort. They played some music to welcome us which was a nice touch. We didn't realize the resort is somewhat small with about 2 dozen bungalows (Bure). The smaller size made it feel actually quite special. Our bure was literally a few steps from the ocean and had both indoor and outdoor shower (love it!) and plunge pool. The main pool is an infinity pool overlooking a grassy palm grove in the near ground and the ocean... it ranks among the nicest pools I've ever seen. The food was excellent - both quality and variety. We went on a 2-tank morning dive... 1st dive ok, 2nd dive was fabulous... seeing huge coral beds in the shape of blooming flowers with "petals" that were each a few feet long. My wife saw 3 sharks (I saw only 1) but lots of great, colorful fish. The scuba was an outfit that partners with Tropica but their beach was great for snorkling where we saw loads of fish. The setting is fabulous... we took paddleboards out (no charge) and the scene is like out of a movie. Speaking of which we later heard that many episodes of Survivor were filmed not far away and our scuba dive was next to the island where the 2000 Tom Hanks movie Castaway was filmed. The view from our bure (and almost all the bures) and common areas overlook the ocean with island that Google bought a couple years back several hundred yards out. We found that the Fiji people are warm and gracious... we understand they are raised to be especially considerate and warm and of course in an economy heavily based on hospitality this is a huge factor in their favor. And yet, it seemed to us that the persons we interacted with where even more hospital than most and that says a lot. We met someone who came back to Tropica and says they've been to other Fiji islands but Tropica is the best. It's also sheltered from the winds unlike the resorts that are each side. The one thing we didn't expect is that it's not really practical to walk to other resorts or a town. They had a town tour but one takes a boat and water was too choppy so it was postponed until after we left. Yet, the seclusion is also nice, well it was for us as we only stayed 3 nights. Overall, everything was excellent!

From the moment you arrive at Tropica to an infectious welcome you feel at home, the location of the Resort is truly stunning. Our Beachfront Villa was set in park like surroundings and was presented immaculately and kept very clean throughout our stay. As we are not big eaters we didn't take the meal Plan and found for us that worked out just fine. We found the food to be of a high standard and varied most nights, As well as the usual continental offerings for Breakfast there is a good menu to choose from. Be sure to try the juice bar!!. We didn't do any excursions but we did use the kayaks and loved paddling around the bay. My husband did a dive course while were there and the staff made it an easy process to organise. We requested to move to another Villa and this process was easily and effortlessly accommodated with a smile. Perhaps the most lasting impression of Tropica that we have taken away with us is that of the staff, their wonderful infectious smiles, the friendliness, their sense of fun and their wilingness to go the extra mile always with a smile, they truly are the gems in the crown that is the Tropica Resort.

I was excited to stay here because of all the positive reviews, which doubled my disappointment that my experience was so, just so bad. I provide this review only to help people make an informed decision about the resort.
1. There was an open condom in my room's shower. After I asked someone at the front desk to please have the room cleaned, the manager found me hours later not to apologize for this happening but to try to gaslight me into believing it never happened at all. No one ever apologized, but the room did get cleaned.
2. I decided to sleep outside on the room's outdoor daybed because I like stargazing (it's very clear at night there). This is how I discovered that at night, the entire resort fills with this noxious exhaust fume smell. I assume that it's the generator, but it was like breathing in front of an exhaust pipe.
3. After learning that sleeping outside was a no go, I went indoors and closed the windows. However, I discovered my air conditioner was broken. They moved me to a new room the next day (they noticed the issue on their own), but the new room had an unfortunate ant problem (crawling all over the bathroom) that made me prefer the condom room. To be fair, I didn't complain about the ants to them but kind of just hoped someone would notice it while cleaning; I don't know.
4. The water was cut off between midnight and 5a. I discovered this fact in an unfortunate way, and it had not been communicated to me.
5. Weirdly and perhaps nonsensically, the thing that pushed everything over the edge for me was that I just wanted a wash cloth, and I asked 3 different people to please give me a wash cloth. And people kept promising that one was now in my room, but it just never was. After a while, you begin to feel as though you're begging or being a diva for something very basic. It took 2 hours for them to give me a wash cloth during which time I just really wanted to wash my face.
All and all, it was a very beautiful resort with bad management (and not a great menu/chef). Its saving grace was the friendliness of the staff. Everyone wanted to check in on you and learn your name and be of help. I only found off-putting the constant jokes about the guests being white (don't stomp your feet or they'll think you're a ghost), which left the non-white guests feeling a bit othered.

We had a wonderful time at Tropica Island Resort. From the communication before we arrived, the wonderful welcome as we arrived to the lovely room it was a great experience. The staff really made the holiday, always friendly and helpful. Sure, Fiji time is in operation with the bar but relax? You are on holiday. We loved the location and spent every night in a front row seat watching the sunset across the bay. With only a maximum of less than 50 guests it was quite yet you could always find somebody to chat to if you wanted. We were lucky enough to be there for Fiji Day which you could tell was special to the staff. We had a beautiful ceremony followed by sandwiches, cake and a fruit punch We enjoyed the variety of food out of the single restaurant over 5 nights, from the Wednesday night lovo to the highly recommended Celebration Package giving you a couples massage, bottle of Moet and the feast at the end of the pier. It was a great touch on the pier for somebody from the kitchen to come out and talk to us about the food. I don't want to be too dramatic here. The food was great, and I'd go back to eat here any day. Some meals especially the lovo and celebration feast were over all excellent I think I could eat the Kokoda every day! I miss it.... You could tell these were where the kitchen excelled. The fresh hollandaise at breakfast was a surprise! And while all meals were very enjoyable, sometimes just sometimes we felt there was an issue. From some overcooked beef or chicken, to the curry which we thought was tasty but a little lacking in something. I wrote 'kick' here originally, but it wasn't just about spice. However, the next day an American lady next to us at breakfast raved it was the best curry she'd ever had. So perhaps we are wrong here......or perhaps she needs to come out with us in Sydney or London...... In the end though, especially given our relatively remote location, we were not disappointed and enjoyed every meal. The rooms were very clean and had a beach side vibe with all the amenities you'd expect. The outdoor shower was my favorite and the only one I used. On the subject of beachside I had already worked out the beach is not acres of golden sand. In fact, the hole resort is relatively small so don't expect long evening walks. The resort here and at Denarau had staff racking up the rocks, shells and coral so you had a stretch to walk on barefoot but you venture in the sea with a gentle step. Not an issue for me but something that I feel I should mention. The waters were warm and inviting. There were kayaks, paddle boards and snorkel equipment to use. We saw a wide variety of fish, occasional moray eel and we even saw baby reef sharks and a wray. Other reported seing sea snakes and turtle. So Tropica Island Resort was amazing 5 nights and we both wish we were there right now.

We stayed at the resort for 7 days and every single moment was uplifting with the friendly staff always willing to lend a helping hand. The singing welcome with flags took us by surprise but continued throughout our stay. Our Sanctuary Bure Room was very spacious and fully equipped with a small fridge, coffee, tea , hot chocolate bar and both inside and outside showers. The outside pool area was a respite enjoyed by my husband every morning ,reading, listening to the birds chirping and taking in the stillness of the mornings.
I was woken up with a beautiful flower arrangement on my birthday by Marika, the resident self taught florist who remembered I loved flower arranging. He also decorated my breakfast table with a birthday sign made out of palm leaves. Talei and her team came out singing happy birthday and Chef Mohamed Shamim had plated a cheesecake for the occasion. Very emotional!
The special birthday dinner prepared by the highly skillful chef was served by Sunni in the canopy bure that was decorated by Talei and her team, was spectacular. We got serenaded by Tuevai, Sunni and Ziggy strumming on their guitars! Returning to our room we were greeted by a lovely birthday towel arrangement on the bed strewn with tropical flowers. What an evening to remember!
The couples massage by Adi and Chia were divine.
Lastly a special thank you to:
Desmond for arranging tours for us. Our trip to the sandbar was a delight and an experience. Your customer relations is first rate.
Sunni for your heart smile, your lovely singing voice, for professionally serving us the special celebratory dinner and playing the guitar and for accompanying us to the Sandbar.
Tuvei for his sense of humour, for the palm hats for my grandchildren and for entertaining us singing on the guitar. We miss your wittiness.
Talei, the food and beverage manager, for always smiling and running an efficient dining area. She made our stay so enjoyable. Thank you for organizing the village trip with the speaker. It was heartfelt.
Mela, Lucy, Sim, Sem, Kurt and Tara for making our dining experience rather enjoyable.Mela and Lucy, your laughter is contagious!
Kudos to Victor, the manager, Anna, Jone and the front desk staff for promptly resolving any issues with a smile.
Ziggy for making me comfortable on the kayak and entertaining us with your guitar.
Finally, we were so emotional leaving this serene, friendly resort and still see Talei, Victor and others waiving goodbye until we disappeared into the horizon.

From the welcome at arrival via tender to the farewell at departure, the staff at Tropica made you feel like family. The bure accomodations were very nice with private pool, spacious interior, and private outdoor shower (yes, there was also one indoors). Meals overlooking the water were very pleasant.
When we visited they are lacking for white sand beach as they are still recovering from an offshore dredging operation that pulled sand off the beach. However, they clearly continue to invest in upgrading facilities.
This is a destination for adults who want some relaxing time away from city life. It's a quiet location where you're not going down the street to a nightclub (there are actually no streets to take you anywhere; if you're going somewhere it will be by boat!).
It was hard to leave; would be easy to return!
