Many travelers flock to Malolo Island Resort for its comfortable and spacious rooms with stunning beachfront views, though there's a call for Wi-Fi improvements and room upgrades. The resort's picturesque location with beautiful reefs is a consistent draw, as is the warm and relaxing atmosphere complemented by traditional music. While the array of activities, from snorkeling to kids' clubs, receives applause, some guests believe the meal plan and amenities could be enhanced. Despite the high cost of food and beverages, the resort's cleanliness and exceptional service are often celebrated.

We were greeted with a welcoming song and then shown around the resort, I thought what a great start. It just got better. Our bure was practically on the beach. It was spacious, spotless and importantly air conditioned for that all important sleep. The bed was so comfortable. The beach was magnificent, complete with lounge chairs and hammocks. The water was warmer than the pool and on most days we had it to ourselves. Non motorised water activities were free and we kayaked out to a nearby island when the tide was out. Snorkelling gear was also free and for a small fee we were taken out to the Castaway wall which was about 10 minutes out. The water was so clear and we saw turtles, a reef shark and an abundance of colourful fish. Three restaurants catered for our every need. The servings were plentiful and at a reasonable price. The lunchtime sandwiches are a must try.The buffet was fantastic as was the traditional Lovo..all you can eat. The people are absolutely fantastic. Nothing was too hard, especially Jesse. He went out of his way to ensure we all had a great time. Cocktail hour at the beach bar was also fun. For those with children the Kids Club is sensational. My grandchildren loved it. I cannot recommend Malolo highly enough. We will certainly be back. Vinaka everyone at Malolo.

I have stayed at a few gorgeous resorts in Fiji ( one costing $1500 a night) so this was a budget break for a week away.

The value is astonishing! Gorgeous beach, stunning views, great restaurants, lovely staff who are more like instant friends, and the option to do a lot - or nothing.

We had a beach view villa - and they should change the name because we were delighted to find that it was absolute beachfront! We could swim from our villa to the Beach Bar for a delicious casual lunch. The fine dining by the pool is also lovely.

There is singing in the evening by the pool, laughter and fun everywhere, but also a quiet retreat room with books and couches. I was reluctant to book a resort with children, but the area is so large, and the villas so private, that it didn’t matter at all.

We had our own little wooden hut by the water, and one night we requested a seafood banquet in the beach hut. When we got back from swimming in the crystal clear water, we found it covered in lights and candles and flowers.

We can’t wait to visit Malolo again.

My family (myself, wife and two sons aged 12 and 9) have just returned from an incredible week at Malolo Island Resort !

We stayed in one of the Ocean View Bures which were relatively basic but very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. There were towels for both beach and bathroom provided as well as a fridge with complimentary tea (an entire case of different tea bags to cater for all preferences!) and coffee making facilities. There was lovely shampoo, body wash and conditioner provided. There was also insect repellent provided as well (we'd brought our own, but didn't need to). So everything we needed was provided for us. However, there was no wifi or TV in the room, but this was very welcome as we really wanted to switch off and have a screen free week!

Although we arrived very late at 11pm (due to our flight being delayed) the staff were up to give us an incredible welcome with songs and drink. They had also provided some pizza and fruit in our room in case we were hungry after the journey. I've never been made to feel more welcome on arrival at any hotel or resort.

The resort itself is a little slice of paradise, it is relatively small but because it doesn't have hundreds of guests it means you get to know other people and the staff (who were all incredibly friendly and efficient).

The beaches were pristine and were simply teeming with fish - the snorkeling both directly from the beach, out on a reef (that you could kayak to) and on other islands was amazing. We had brought some of our own snorkeling equipment, but really didn't need to as the complimentary equipment was of good quality (we had to borrow one set for one of our children).

We used the complimentary kayaks and stand-up paddle boards (but not the windsurfers or catamarans) but could have done if we had wanted to. Everything was readily available. We didn't use the kids club that much (as our children are older and more independent) but lots of other people commented on how good it was and the staff all seemed to be brilliant with all the children.

The highlight of our week was probably Fijian Independence day (which happened to coincide with our visit) which was an amazing day of fun beach activities and games that both the guests and staff took part in.

I simply can't say enough good things about this resort and the staff. We had an incredible week that have given us memories we'll treasure forever! Thank you to everyone at Malolo Island Resort!!

My family and I loved staying here! The resort has a small intimate feel and the setting is absolutely stunning. It was so nice staying right on the beach! The Fijians who work there are so nice and genuine.

On New Years Eve we dined on lobster, bugs, prawns, mahi mahi and much more! Just fantastic

The lagoon is beautiful and great for paddle boarding, snorkelling, kayaking etc. Try and go in the morning before the wind comes up. There is a very nice short hike up the mountain overlooking the resort.

The location of the bures (right on the beach) is terrific, it is so nice to walk outside and be greeted to the azure coloured ocean every morning! Would love to come back...

We stayed at Malolo Island from December 23rd until the 2nd of January. It was without a doubt one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever had. Even with the cyclone thrown into proceedings. From the moment we entered the tender boat to bring us to the island we were made to feel welcome. We didn't know who he was at the time, but Jese met us on the boat and looked after my mother in law who was feeling less than comfortable in some choppy conditions. And Jese continued to check in on us for the duration of the stay which made us feel very much at home. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff on Malolo Island. I have to make special mention of Ben, Asa, Ratu, Luisana (Lucy), Malika, Ceva, Mana and Cory all of whom went above and beyond in making our stay special. During the time cyclone Sarai was hitting the Island we could not have been looked after better. The staff made regular food and drink drops and made us feel completely safe at all times. We were well informed of all weather conditions. I would highly recommend attending Malolo for Christmas and New Year. We had a great time celebrating both. And once again the staff did a great job in making both celebrations very special. Our daughter was a bit old for kids club, however the staff still knew her name and said hello whenever they saw her. The wifi was limited and there was no television, which was absolutely perfect. Nothing but Sun, water, food and rest. All in all an absolutely perfect 10 days in paradise. We cant wait to return. Malolo will definitely be our home in Fiji going forward.

What a wonderful resort. Excellent accommodation on the beach, wonderful staff whose eyes and whole face light up when they smile when greeting you, wonderful attentive service, fabulous tasty food, and treat you like family. Although our holuday was cut short due to the Corona Virus, the reception staff were so helpful assisting us with rebooking our flights home and early morning boat transfer to the mainland. We cannot wait til we go back again after all this virus hysteria is over.
Many thanks to our wonderful Fijian family at Malolo who made our short stay so great. Sota Tale my wonderful family.

We stayed here as a group of 10 adults, three generations of the same family plus friends. We had a great time and stayed in both garden bures and the larger ocean front bures which were spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. The food was excellent with a variety of options available. We also organised a special meal on the beach one night for a 21st birthday which was well organised. Would definitely recommend to families and with an adults only pool you can escape the smaller children in the resort.

Good service as the staff are very personal and geniunely care about your stay. But the food is not good, the buffet served some grilled lobster and crayfish which was not mushy - to me not so fresh. We also tried the kokoda. the fish in coconut cream, in my opinion the fish cubes are too large and it felt rubbery when chewed. Didnt like it when we had it for dinner but the 2nd kokoda served at the buffet line was more acceptable. The bure was clean and modern, we liked it a lot. But for the price paid, i believe it was not value for money.

I’m impressed with Malolo island resort. We (2 adults) had stayed 5 nights on the island and was a perfect getaway. The weather was beautiful, the views was spectacular and the staff were amazing.
We found the rooms to be clean, practical, spacious and had most things you needed while you were away.
The resort was off the grid with limited wifi, no tvs in room or phones. Perfect for a getaway.
The restaurant food was nice but limited for someone who doesn’t eat seafood. I would highly recommend to purchase the all inclusive package as the food would be expensive to pay out of pocket.
The staff were amazing. They were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
We really enjoyed our visit and would book again.

Exorbitant food and beverage prices. They say choice of three restaurants, however one is adults only, another a beach bar open from 11am and does not open for dinner most nights forcing your family to eat an average, very expensive buffet. A 500 ml bottle of sparkling water is $17FJD. If kids need morning tea, forget it as nothing available until 11am.

Wake to the smell of burning rubbish at 5.30am, unapproved charges to your bill and unhygienic cleaning. Very disappointing for an expensive resort that promises so much.

Response from Brad Calder, General Manager at Malolo Island Resort
Responded 23 Dec 2023
Dear Amy Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent stay in Malolo Island Resort with the Trip Advisor community. For the benefit of the Trip Advisor community and as an explanation for yourself I would like to advise the following. I do agree with you that food and beverage prices are high in Fiji. Having worked in London, New Zealand, Fiji, Bali, Maldives and now back in Fiji again I am also surprised at the current levels of food prices, even local food is considered expensive for the Fijians who have to feed their family. There are a number of reasons for this, but in particular for hotels who import items we are also feeling the effects of the food price inflation felt in Australia and all imported items incur an additional government duty of up to 30% on top of the product and freight cost, plus there is a sales tax of 15% which are included in our prices. So food and beverage items like imported sparkling water which travels from another country is of course very expensive. Coupled with this our island resort pays for twice weekly barges to bring our food and beverage supplies to the island and we provide housing, facilities and 3 meals a day for the staff who live at the resort to serve you. We are constantly looking at ways to make improvements and I am pleased to advise that in 2024 we have invested in a water bottling plant to be able to serve complimentary Still and Sparkling Water produced at the resort for the benefit of our guests and the environment as we will eliminate unnecessary carbon emissions from freight and plastic waste from PET bottles. Malolo Island Resort offers a daily buffet until 10am at the Terrace Restaurant, Lunch from 11.30am-2.30pm at the Terrace Restaurant and Beach Bar and dinner Nightly At the Terrace Restaurant with Buffets on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights and A’la Carte on the remaining nights. Our buffet nights serve a range of dishes including specialty items such as Lobster, Mud Crabs, Prawns and Wagyu Beef. Our Beach Bar offers an evening service from 5.30pm-9pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays nights but we do not open on the buffet nights. Our Treetops Adults Only Restaurant serves dinner every night except for Wednesday where we have our Fijian Lovo Buffet cooked in the under ground oven. Additionally we have an ice cream parlour with natural fruit flavours open from 12pm to 5pm. Malolo Island Resort does offer a Meal Package for those guests on a budget which is available to purchase when you make your reservation and we have a Kids Eat Free promotion throughout the year also which is subject to booking terms and conditions. Thank you for your suggestion for the need for snacks for young children for morning and afternoon teas, we look to see how we can integrate this into our kids club offering. Please do accept our apologies for the smell of burning rubbish. Unfortunately the burning of rubbish has always been a method of waste disposal in Fiji. This is normally done early morning so as not to disturb our guests and I apologise that this was done at a time when wind direction at the time of your stay was not favourable. I am however pleased to advise that in 2024 we have invested in a waste recycling plant with numerous machinery for waste segregation and processing for our 2 properties and to assist the local village. Additionally we will be partnering with a reputable recycling company on the mainland to ensure that our sorted and processed waste that needs to be removed from the island will be properly recycled. I do hope the above information may go towards explaining some of the areas that you were concerned about and I apologise for not providing you with the holiday you were hoping for. Warm Regards Brad Calder Group General Manager Ahura Resorts Fiji

We arrived at the island at 10.30 am however could not check in until 3 pm. No special consideration was given to our request for early check in which was a very disappointing way to start the holiday. We were able to use the facility but our bags were left unattended and not secured. Welcome to Fiji time!!

Snorkeling of the beach near the jetty is good here the reef drop off is only a few metres from the shore. Plenty of colourful fish. We say rays and even some baby reef sharks. Also possible to kayak to nearby island outcrop 5 min away where there is another reef to explore. Outer reef excursions where also great if tou want to see more.
