The Peerless Hotel in Kolkata garners high marks for its spotless premises and central location, making it a hit for those keen on shopping and sightseeing. Many guests revel in the luxurious rooms, although noise levels and key card issues have been points of contention. The hotel's courteous staff and inviting atmosphere consistently receive commendations, yet opinions on value diverge; some guests feel the dining and service justify the expense, while others cite overpricing and unforeseen fees.

Having stayed at different hotels in and around Park Street before, we wanted to try a hotel that is walking distance from Park Street and other places like New Market etc. The location did not disappoint as it is just adjacent to the Oberoi. We took a Premier Room in the new wing, on the 7th floor with a decent view of Victoria Memorial in the distance. The room itself was adequate although toiletries were lacking as were items like room slippers, bathrobe, iron & ironing board etc and had to be requested. The room is just about enough for two people - any more and it will be very congested. Sound from the street below was very well insulated and did not disturb. Breakfast was adequate although lacking in variety. The real stars are the staff who were ever helpful and polite, especially the doormen. If hotels like the Park are too expensive for ones taste, then the peerless is definitely one choice to opt for, given its location and value for money. There is a small gym on the 9th floor and the hotel is divided into 2 wings - old and new. Premier rooms are in the new wing. I will be back.

The Hotel is located in the New market area, just beside Esplanade metro station.
The hotel is one of the landmarks in the area. Be sure to ask for rooms in the adjacent wing. They allowed to view rooms in both the buildings, and the rooms were very similar, except the rooms in the main wing had the older bathrooms, with a lot of wear and tear, whereas the rooms in the adjacent wing were very new, so we decided to go with that. The room itself is very standard, but has all required amenities. The buffet breakfast though was a bit disappointing, although they had a lot of items, only two non-veg items were present, but it allowed us to explore the other veg and juice options on display.
The location is absolutely amazing if you are looking to get shopping done and also be accessible to nearby attractions. The new market is just a 2 minute walk from the hotel, and the metro station in front of the hotel allows you to visit multiple areas using the metro, such as chadni chowk, park street, etc. The Victoria memorial is also a short 10 min taxi/uber drive from the Hotel.
Overall, if you are looking to stay close to the new market area, this would be a good place for a stay of about 2/3 nights.

This is one of the best places to stay in Kolkata as it is centrally located. The ambience, the service, the comfort, and most importantly the FOOD. there's just a great spread of foods including in vegetarian alternatives and the food is very delicious and prepared in a hygienic manner with fresh ingredients. (I prefer buffet over room delivery). Rooms are spacious, hygienic and well kept.

I and my wife stayed at Peerless Inn for 04 nights from 20-24 January 2020. We chose this hotel for its location and being a 4* we were expecting basic minimum standards. Our nightmare started from the time we checked in. Since, we had booked online and prepaid for the entire duration of our stay, we were compelled to endure the nightmare.
We were first allotted a room on 03rd floor, overlooking a hollowed out dilapidated building so it not possible to even open the windows. On complaining, next day we were allotted a room on the 08th floor overlooking a street infested with Hawkers and the Hawking was so loud that it is impossible to rest during day time. Nights were worse, every morning we got up with a severe backache since, the beds had ‘bonnell spring’ mattresses. And being used to ‘natural foam’ mattresses, we just could not sleep.
Apparently, for environmental reasons, drinking water in the rooms was provided in glass bottles that were supposedly refilled with purified water. However, from Day 2, I started having stomach cramps and an upset tummy. After Day 3, we realized that the water being supplied was from dysfunctional UV water filters and was being handled in a very unhygienic manner. We immediately, switched over to bottled water and thankfully started recovering.
The F&B arrangements were no better. Fresh juices were being mixed with water and every morning we had to ask for freshly squeezed juices without dilution. At breakfast, uncleared tables/plates were the norm and every morning, we had wait for 5-10 minutes for a table to be cleared that too at our constant urging. For eggs to order, every time that I asked for a ‘water poach’, I was being dissuaded on the pretext that it will take time. They were happier rustling up ‘omeletts’. Again, while Darjeeling tea was available but they were extremely reluctant to serve it since, it needed to be soaked and the tea/coffee were being served without a tea spoon and we had to ask for it all the time. The attitude and efficiency of the Staff were pathetic. The Executives would go around with a leisurely gait while constantly peeking at their cell phones that was always in hand. And, any request for service made to them, was an imposition apparently.
This is not a hotel I would recommend to anyone who is a paying customer and not on a Corporate Roll.

We stayed there in January and we chose this hotel for the location and convenience. Upon our arrival we had to wait 40 minutes before the receptionist was ready to talk to us. The reception area is small in terms of the number of guests and the people behind the desk were very slow to process the paperwork. Finally when we went to get our rooms we were told one of our room is on 3rd floor while the other on 5th floor even though we requested to be on the same floor as we were a family of four. The receptionist looked blank when I stated this and upon checking the booking details behold my email was right there about this request. Around that time one of the senior management official came forward and said we can have the rooms on the same floor (non smoking as requested). As you walked into the corridor leading from the elevator to the rooms, a strong smell of chemical cleaning agent greeted you. Bad luck if you happen to suffer from asthma. Both rooms had carpet and as soon as you walked in the smell of stale cigarette smoke greeted you, but on the doors it read non smoking. The carpet was old and worn down. The bathrooms also needed to be upgraded. Since we booked and prepaid online we had to stay there. At breakfast tables had uncleared plates and some of the waiters seemed oblivious to this. When ordering eggs or other freshly cooked breakfast foods there were no way of knowing who ordered what or who was first to order.

We have stayed at the Peerless Inn 3 times now over the last 9 years (every time we visit Kolkata).
It is a good hotel in a great location. It is also a business hotel so there may be a queue at breakfast if you pick the wrong time (although the breakfast was very good).
We booked a non smoking Premier Double but the room badly smelled of cigarette smoke when we arrived. We were promptly moved to another room which did not smell as bad.
The dinner at the hotel was very average so maybe look elsewhere for dinner.
Otherwise a comfortable stay within walking distance of many attractions.

Good hotel with all the basic amenities and spacious room, clean bathrooms and good storage. I stayed in the new wing as I am allergic to carpets. Initially they were reluctant to give a room in the new wing for reasons better known to them( Despite the fact they were told in advance)
Food was very good, including buffet breakfast with a lot of variety which most of the hotels offer. I stayed for 6 nights there were subtle variations in the few items given in the breakfast, largely it was same, but everything tasted good.
The most important factor for me to choose this hotel was its central location with respect to all historical sites which I wanted to cover, I am very happy with my decision. Though there are many hawker style eateries in the vicinity but good restaurants are not available close to the hotel. So most of the time I had dinner in the room only, which was served well.
There room service needs improvement. My friend needed to keep her insulin inside freezer and the room service guy couldn’t follow any instructions, putting her into a lot of trouble. They need to be trained properly.

On the whole we had a very present stay at the hotel.
I think using an online booking service gets you the 3rd floor, facing a a very noisy street, with curtains that need a good wash.
We were given such a room, but it was worse, it smelled of damp, in which e spent the night.
I packed up all our thing, moved them to another room (family member), and asked for a new room. We ere finally assigned a room on the 7th floor, after calling a number of times.
This room had the same decor, but updated, clean and bright, newer bathroom.
Having been in India for 4 weeks and not got sick, but coming down with a really bat tummy, I think it must have been the water provided by the hotel (please don’t drink it)
The hotel food was a bit expensive, but good, breakfast was great, unfortunately I did not experience it due to my tummy.
Great staff.

The hotel is located in a very congested area though it is central and one can get taxis right outside the hotel gate. Its an old property rennovated but since I was located in the annex I found it a pain to cross buidlinges to reach the reception and restaurant. The rooms smelled as if some one had smoked in it. Service is very slow and tardy . On the pretext of Covid precautions lot of usual things one expects in a hotel when one is paying that price is absent like in house dining menu card.
Breakfast buffet was just about okay with no non vegetarian options except egg. The plates etc were not clean nor the dining tables cleaned quickly to accomodate the next person. Attention in the restaurant was more towards the big groups and sole travellers were neglected. Also soundsproofing of rooms is needed as is some one talks in the corridors or keeps their door open it can be heard in your room even if you room door is closed.
Over all it was an average experience.
