The hotel is situated centraly, only half an hour from airport ,with half an hour will reach Ballygang and new market area and still feel at a large impressive garden with beatiful large lily pond as if you are far away from busy kolkata street .The garden is built and maintained in such away that you are with the nature. There are many coconut trees , then Sunderbon large garden rugged for jogging or weddin ceremony, the the outdoor large pool with rows of bamboo trees with lots of birds sometime, then the lily pond area with lilly, and many coloured fishes , they come to you and you can feed them with special grains,it is unbelievable beautiful natural scenery, hundred of flower pot arranged in rows, then papya , mango , lime and so many other trees, also patch of herb garden.At lobby and entrance there are flowers in large container with water and in the evening candles are lit, you feel as if you have come to a temple, every other day different flower arrangement,so clean soothing.Rooms are large , clean , simple decoration as if you are at home, not artificially decorated. , good wifi .The breakfast buffet has many regional preparation and very good , staff very helpful.Eden menue fr lunch n dinner good There are good Also 4 other restaurants ,moth watering food at Piswari, Dumput with north indian food, Pan Asian also fantastic. The welcome assistance staff 24 hr courteous and help you 24 hours. Kaya kalp has all facii lty including gym, massage and beauty treatment good, staff .Sonar all staff very efficient, welcoming and will help you with a smile,I been staying for at least 1 month every year last 6 years and 2014 stayed 4 months , it is a unique hotel so peaceful at large garden , the ambience is so good and relaxing, also the on the menue is so many varieties , Most important staff make sure you are comfortable and helpful. We love our winter Kolkata trip because of Sonar.We have travelled all over the world and have done many top cruises but Sonar is on top of my hotels as it is simply decorated room but you feel at home not in artificial envirnment, and from GM TO junior are all there for you.

Very few hotels have such a well equipped gym that you don’t have to go out to a regular gym. From a smith machine to a variety of weights to rowing machine and more. And open 24 hours. I can go to this hotel just for their gym.
But that’s not all. While it’s in the middle of the city, it’s very peaceful and tranquil. The lotus ponds and ducks, just watching the fishes swim while you enjoy a smoke. Oh and what a smoking room and their own cigar lounge. Their cigars though not as smooth as the regular Cubans, are still good value for money.
The food is an absolute delight and especially the morning breakfast spread. It has everything for a health nut like me and the taste will leave you overeating a lot. Your stomach will be full and your soul satisfied.
I was there when many functions were happening and was amazed with the sound proofing as no noise or loud music entered my room.

Location. Extremely poor, difficult to reach Parking. Self parking poorly lit dim shabby parking lacks assistance and light Not suitable for senior citizens. Staff. Arrogant and unprofessional. Refuses to speak in Bengali. Misguide guests.
Peshawari restaurant. At the basement, clumsy, shabby place. Stools are there to sit which are very uncomfortable. Especially for senior citizens.
No social distance is maintained.
No guests are wearing masks, and hotel staff are ignoring people roaming without masks.
Unsafe during Covid 19 situation.
No forks, spoons and tissues on the table, staff refuse to supply those on request.
You have to eat with your bare hands
Food. Uncooked raw food served. Staff turned deaf ear.
Extremely overpr for what we get.
Conclusion. Bengalis are treated poorly. Bad food. Rude uncivilized staff Absolutely no guidance to reach restaurant.

We stayed for 4 nights here and were looking forward to a holiday with basic service standards but we experienced the opposite. Imagine being hungry and waiting for an hour in line to be seated at breakfast which is included in the room cost at a 5 star hotel! The day we get a table easily, the food order is forgotten and has to reminded or re-ordered 4 times.
Also the room service forgets to clean the room one day. They also forget to clear the in room dining, when called to ask for that they still dont show up.
A far from a luxury experience.

If there is one person me and my family would like to thank immensely for this trip, it would be Ms. Swarnali Bose. She literally looked after my family like a guardian angel this time, from coordinating our check in till our checkout and we are so thankful to her, she took care of our every small request to the best of her ability, she made my daughter super happy and excited on her birthday with an awesome theme cake which we requested her at the 11th hour, she ensured both me and my daughter's birthday were well celebrated, did coordination for our restaurant bookings, handling our guests, looking after my little ones, so thank you so much Swarnali for your sincere effort and kind gestures. We would like to thank Fatima, Rebekah and their team for helping us at the eden pavilion during our breakfast almost on a daily basis, Fatima as usual is one of the best people to be around in this hotel. She is very kind, humble and diligent. I would like to thank Krishanu and his team for looking after me and my guests on my daughter's birthday at the Pan Asian during our dinner. I would like to thank Aditya Sharma of Brass Room for his constant updates on Jazz, R&B nights even when i am not present at the property, he is very proactive and keeps taking constant feedback to improve upon service offerings.T hanks to his timely update i enjoyed the music of one of the best blue bands, blue mist on the 15th jan-2020 at the brass room. this is the second time i stayed here. the rooms are quite big and they had everything we needed and were fresh, clean and very comfortable.The kids loved the all day snacks and drinks as well as the breakfast.The people who works in the hotel are very nice and professional, specially Swarnali and Angela. I travel a lot,both for work and pleasure,and the Itc Sonar/Itc Royal Bengal customer service was one of the best I have ever experienced. The hotel management and staff exceeded expectations on all levels.From Mr.Anurag Saigal to Mr.Tumasp Wazibder ,Ms.Kunju Sherpa,Kunal Shergill,Gaurav Pandey,Mr.Anand,Mr.Anindya ,Mr.Neil,Mr.Ranjan - they all took care of us and made our stay very comfortable. Congratulations to the management and staff(specially Angela ,Swarnali,Nilufar)for the amazing job . Beside the excellent customer service,other great features of the hotel that we really appreciated are the recent - and very testful - rooms' renovation ( a special mention to the very shiny wooden floor ,which is perfect when its comes to cleanliness too),the immaculate bedding and the excellent quality bathroom amenities.

Stayed in this beautiful property for two days. I must say one of a kind hospitality we have got. Every request was met. All the satffs are very cautious and ready to help. The bag and bari concept of this hotel makes you feel the authentic bengali culture earlier people use to have. Lots of greenary in the hotel which is very good for environment. ITC is always one step ahead. Got to know many of the initiative from the staff. One of them is single use plastic. Also the water bottle which they provide is filtered in-house which is sunya aqua. Room is quite big with all the amenities. Food quality is very good and hygienic. They can actually customized the food the way you want. Hats off to the chef. Entire front office team is very cordial. We will come back soon.

Nothing less and nothing more, I never knew that the Australian hotels pay to the guests for a positive response but it never happens with ITC group of hotels ... particularly with Sonar.... It's a vibrant team who feels that U r before I. This place is synonymous with Responsible Luxury. My strong objection to the cheapest of the comments on the reviews. We need to mind our language when we write ! For many or any ITC Sonar is Just A Home Away From Home !! Team Sonar is a perfect blend of Indian hospitality with a responsible International touch 👍
