OK, It’s a good hotel. We have a decent stay in a premium room with balcony. Price May on the higher side as we came in Puja time.
Why I have given 1 star less because of one day we did not do the breakfast from the hotel and we bring from outside and we wanted a plate from room service but room service strictly denied to give because of outside food which makes us very uncomfortable . Later they sent the plate to the room after I call the receptionist and told him about the incessant with room service. May be bad luck for us.
The pros
Specious room (premium). Very good location everything near by. With a balcony which is very limited option in Kolkata.
Will stay again if they change some strange policies about the room service.

It's by no means a palace but a solid choice if you're looking for reasonably priced accomodation in Kolkata. Room was ok, clean but missing some wallpaper, quiet and comfortable. We appreciated the good-sized safe. Location is very handy for a tourist. Best of all was the breakfast; a delicious, plentiful buffet of mostly Indian dishes, with masala dosa (and maybe more) on request, as well as yummy desserts.

I had a very satisfactory stay in this hotel. The room was spacious with a big double-sized bed, ample seating arrangements, and a writing table. The bed was just hard enough. The bathroom was good. The two restaurants were good. One served breakfast, the other Ruposhi Bangla lunch & dinner. The breakfast had quite extensive menu of Indian fare. The dishes were a bit repetitive. The doors, both the main & the bathroom, were very heavy & difficult to open. The hotel staff were great.

The cleaning badly let's the hotel down, the staff are over committed and rushed - it shows. The water marks on the walls in the bathroom, the dust behind the door and ontop of ledges. The dirt in corners. It could be terrible luck but because the rooms have NO sound proofing you can hear each step in the hall and the entirety of their conversation in the corridor getting a good night's sleep is not easy here. Staff did little to ask other guests to speak at quieter levels in corridors late at night, very disappointing indeed.
The breakfast is mediocre, the breakfast room is too small and there was a queue for breakfast each morning. The wait for coffee, eggs, toast, yogurt was to much for a place that does breakfast each day - it's like they were surprised people wanted to eat.

we stayed at kempton for 3 nights. our money was stolen from hotel room by hotel staff.when we demand to see the cctv footage, after that our money was given back to our room. I am surprised at this event. Also there is no free wifi in this hotel.

I am quite fussy when it comes about cleanliness and being in Kolkata before, I was quite sceptical in finding a decent hotel that would do justice to the generally higher room tariff. Guess what? We found the best that you could be able to dish out in a place like this near New Market area. If you are a Bangladeshi then staying around new market area would make perfect sense! Our 4 nights & 5 days stay in Kempton was really a fresh breath of air although initially I booked it for two nights (I wanted to experience the hotel first and then to decide whether to extend it or not). The front desk executives where really helpful and the booking was upgraded on spot to an Executive Room free of charge. They gave me a rear room which I requested during making my booking online and it was away from the lift lobby. Even before I finished my question about being able to get Seheri in rooms (it was Ramadan and as a Muslim I have to have something to eat in the early dawn), the front desk reps responded back that they do have the facility and that too without any additional cost as breakfast is included with the tariff! Note that not many hotels I have stayed agreed to compensate Sheheri with free breakfast coupon (even a 5 star hotel in Saudi), which they did. The room was very clean with some residual/dirt between the window and the bed and upon my request on the next day they cleared the adjacent bed area thoroughly. The TV & the AC worked perfectly fine and the housekeeping staffs were very responsive whenever I needed them. For example- my wife puked in the bathroom sink as she was sick and it got clogged. They had to use a plunger maintaining a happy face! Tipped the HK staff adequately but that's what I call professionalism :-) . Room Service was also excellent and very timely. A guy named Bapan was very much courteous and provided us good service along with the other Room Service staffs. The walls of the building are a bit thin (not like what we have here in Bangladesh). Bapan even helped me upon my request to make a group of rowdy boarders in adjacent rooms across the hallway calm down at night (my fellow countrymen :-( who usually come for shopping just before Eid). Before I requested him, I complained several times at the front desk and they could not do anything about it (this was the only hitch from the front desk staffs although I believe they did not have the regular staffs manning the reception at the middle of the night). There is a good local restaurant just opposite side of the hotel but the food of the hotel itself is very good (in fact better) although a bit expensive after you add up the tax and service charge. They have quite a good range of menu choices. The hotel's Wifi is a genuine problem and we had to take a local mobile SIM from outside for our internet usage. I will be staying in Kolkata in coming months for longer time and definitely would be choosing Kempton again as my temporary residence. Thanks for the good service and the wonderful experience.
