Every time we visit Kolkata, we stay mostly at the Sonnet hotel except for a few weekend gateways in some of the international name brand hotels such as Marriott and Hyatt.
We consider this hotel as our second home. The reason is that we really feel it home as soon as we step in . The hospitality of the staff is unparallel . The staff are courteous, extremely friendly and always ready to help the guests . The front desk staff : the receptionist , Abhishekata, and two young helping men, Abhisekh and Mongol are extremely efficient, caring and always ready to do anything possible to make the guests comfortable . I really think that Mongol and Abhishek are sort of assets to this hotel .
The housekeeping and room service staff are also very prompt and quite efficient. In particular, the Housekeeping Supervisor, Mr. Gautam Maitey, and the Housekeeping Manager, Mr. Pandey go around the guests rooms to see if the guests are comfortable and are in need of anything . Every time I see Mr. Pandey, he greets me with a smile and says “Namaste “ and asks me if he can do anything to make my stay enjoyable and comfortable.
Lastly but most importantly, the food at both the breakfast buffet and the dinner is delicious and there is a wide variety to choose form, including some healthy choices. The kitchen supervisors are also extremely polite and makes sure that the food quality and service is as good as possible.
On the administrative side, Niharika was our main resource person – she helped us with the booking through several international telephone calls and after our arrival, she made sure that everything is in order and our stay remains comfortable as of previous stays.
In summary, I would highly recommend the Sonnet Hotel in Kolkata to any tourist who would like a comfortable and friendly hotel in a highly desirable location in Kolkata with reasonable rates.
I and my wife certainly look forward to return to this hotel every time we come back to Kolkata.
Recommendations for Improvements :
(I) WIFI service should be improved. Many times the network connections are either weak or do not exist.
Also the WIFI Login and PWD systems are kind of back dated .
An international standard nowadays is :
Login – the Last name of the Guest ; PWD - Room Number. T
This makes the login process extremely easy and the guests do not need to remember those machine generated random numbers. I believe the IT person of the hotel can do it very easily.
(ii) The GYM room should be accessible to the guests with Room-Keys so that the guests do not need to bother the front-desk person to open the room every time they need to use it.
In almost all hotels , there is a care taker or a trainer who looks after the needs and safety of the guests while using the machines.
The TV in the GYM room sometimes does not work too. This as well as the room TVS should be replaced with some more newer modern TVS.

The Sonnet- A hotel is a place where we land for a short stay but move on to a different place as we transit. Sonnet is such a hotel strategically located near city center at the heart of Salt Lake in Kolkata, India. It's about 30 to 45 minutes driving from the airport, new town, chowringhee, goriahat, burrabazar, kalighat, dakshineswar temple, etc. accessible by EM bypass and inner streets of kolkata.
Most importantly, the ambiance inside the hotel is unparraled even to the envy of high ticket brands such as ITC Sonar and Royal Bengal, Grand, Great Eestern, Taj, et al at one third of the cost. They have full service breakfast, lunch, and dinner facilities full of mouth watering cuisines cooked by chefs right in front of your eyes. Their rooms are impeccably furnished with all the amenities you need for a comfortable living with a state of the art decor. Above all is the courteous service of all their staff available at the snap of the finger with nothing less than a pleasant smile with no expectations of a gratuity or service charge. Their departments such as housekeeping, front desk, room service, dining, entrance gate and their friendly staff are a rarity in our world of transactional existence.

We booked the banquet for our wedding for Feb 18, 2020. The banquet manager is incompetent and not cooperative at all. Same go for the person in charge of decoration. They couldn't do even simple things we asked for the event (e.g. right coloured flower, serve food &/or drinks on time, sitting arrangements etc.). The manager continuously harassed us saying that they don't take credit card and we had to pay in cash, when they do take credit cards. We travelled from USA to India just for the wedding and didn't have so much cash with us, which they were aware of. Apparently the hotel/banquet frequently changes their staff, so none of the people who were in charge there knew what's going on, which was frustrating. The hotel management and service were good. So all I can say is that, this is a good hotel to stay but the really bad to have your special events here, because the banquet management is horrible.

We had to book the banquet hall for an office event, and could not find something on such a short notice (less than 7 days). So we booked for about 100 people and boy, it was one miserable day, that nearly cost me my job.

Cons:
No wifi (yes you heard that right)
Very poor IT Support
Incompetent and uncooperative manager
No signal of any cell phone, Jio might work at some places. Imagine running a business meeting like this
Shady dealings- They have sub-contacted the arrangements for stage etc to an outsider, who refused give us a proper bill. Made us wait for 4 hours. Wanted cash only and no bill. In short, shady.
We needed another projector and it took them over two hours to arrange that. Me as a senior manager and the event coordinator almost cried that day, as all my directors were so upset
Ladies bathroom does not have a full length mirror
Some staff do not understand Hindi, and that can be a problem
Overall, this a good property, but I would not recommend for any formal business meeting.

The first and the last feeling one gets right from the reception desk to the breakfast to the guy on the other end of the phone is that you are actually not really welcome and that we are reluctantly doing you a flavor by allowing you to stay with us.
No hello, no welcome, no thank you, no are you enjoying yourself, no anything I can do for you, no smile, no nothing. Period.
To add to that, dated property, bathroom with what looks like fundus spots on the floor, telephone which is faulty with no numbers directory, faulty room locker which they could not mend nor change our room upon request, a room entry card which would definitely work one in 5 times, etc.
The most exiting part was they always gave us 1 bath towel for 2 people and at times 1 hand towel despite knowing we are 2 people in the room. Upton request a second pair would appear definitely after 2 calls.
This property is rated 4 star! It should be rated 2 star!!!

I liked the in house dining however, the price of the food is too high. One mutton biryani costs Rs 600. Even 5 stars in Bangalore do not charge so much. Daal is 350 bucks is atrociously high.
The cleanliness is not upto the mark. The coffee cups in the room was dirty with scratches all over.
The house keeping staff is equally inefficient. O had to call 5 times and wait for 4 hrs for water, toilet tissue roll and tea bags. Also, the bottle in which the RO water was provided had cigarette smell in it. The couch in the room was also very dusty....overall quite a bad experience

The Sonnet is a remarkable boutique hotel centrally located and easily accessible by car, taxi, metro to all points of Kolkata and a 20 minute drive from airport.
The most important observation is the hotel’s amazing staff including housekeeping ( under the manager, Gautam’s leadership that has recruited and trained his staff impeccably) and the restaurant (managed by Mr Mondol ) whose customer service always with a smile makes this hotel very endearing. The restaurant buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner carry an array of delightful choices and the chefs are always glad to oblige.
The rooms are comfortable with a refrigerator and all reasonable amenities in the bathroom. The detail to cleanliness is remarkable.
I would highly recommend this hotel, which is reasonably priced that has prioritized hospitality to a traveling guest

Wife and I just completed our third two week stay in 3 years at the hotel. The newer rooms on the 7th floor are well appointed with lots of storage compared to the older club rooms on the lower floors. The hotel has been going through a multi year renovation and that impacts the comfort of the stay but good thing this year is that the new restaurant is open and running. The hotel is also trying to remedy the shortage of restaurant stuff. The swimming pool is yet to be operational. The wifi connection is unreliable and it is difficult to get work done at times. The reason this is a 4 star review is majorly the staff continue to care about your stay and try their best. The environment is as usual warm and welcoming and over the years we have come to look forward to our stay at The Sonnet. The location cannot be beat for convenience and walk-friendliness which some of the nearby fancier hotels cannot claim. Till the next time, thank you to The Sonnet!!

We had stayed at the hotel for 4 days. Right from booking, the experience was amazing. Mr. Shibnath Sarkar immediately offered me a good deal and booked rooms just on verbal assurance. We had a smooth check-in and equally delightful stay experience. The room service and staff were extremey cooperative. When my mother was feeling sick, the staff immediately bought medicine on their own. They even arranged for Airport Transfer whenever requested for. A highly recommended hotel

Xecutive doubke room will have a normal double bed whereas a executive king room will have a king suze bed...the breakfast buffet will be same for both types ..and its always buffet only and complinentary..hope this info helps
