HHI Kolkata needs no introduction, yet a walk into the place might make you wonder if you have reached a wrong destination. An overhauled new property, a premium fascia and a new-look lobby, welcome you into a whole new world. At every turn you discover a new face of your well-versed hotel. From the well-groomed staff to the friendly new outlets like the health-club or the swimming pool, everything throws a vibe of warmth around and reflects a sense of trendy living that enchants guests from world over. Ideally located in the center of the city, the hotel offers more than just good lodging. No wonder it is the preferred choice for fairy-tale weddings as much as for corporate power-talks.

Hotel Hindusthan International Kolkata receives mixed feedback from its guests. While the cleanliness and welcoming atmosphere are frequently commended, with a special nod to the housekeeping staff, some visitors suggest that the washroom facilities could use improvement. Room conditions and maintenance have been a recurring concern, despite the praise for certain amenities and the hotel's rich interior decoration. The central location is popular among guests for its convenience to local attractions, yet many feel that the hotel does not offer good value, pointing to the high cost of food and the need for renovations. Although the service is generally recognized as attentive, there are reports of occasional slow and inconsistent responses.

My family recently hosted my sister’s wedding over 2 days at the HHI in Kolkata. Our experience was great and the entire event was memorable. This was due to the amazing hospitality and support provided by the management and staff at the HHI.
Both the bride’s and groom’s family parties were staying at the HHI over the two days and the house-keeping and support staff were exceptionally diligent and efficient. The major concerns of guest comfort and movement of material was well looked after in an organised manner. The staff was courteous and extremely helpful for even the most myriad demands of the guests.
The guests were warmly received and handled politely, making everyone feel comfortable and helping uplift the mood of the wedding. Every event venue was well staffed and all our parameters were kept in mind. There was an understanding reception of our suggestions and anything that was possible was customised as per our wishes.
Most importantly, we had customised every meal menu specifically, covering Marwari, Bengali, Chaat, North Indian and Continental cuisines. It is very rare that all meals are of such superior quality in a wedding, especially those hosted at star hotels. It is no small achievement of the kitchen staff, ably supervised with personal involvement by Chef Sudip and Chef Probal, that all the guests were in awe of the delicious food and were amazed by the quality. Food is probably the most important element at any Indian wedding and the guests were treated to a delightful variety of fare by the HHI kitchens, which just took the entire event to another level. The service of the staff was also extremely efficient and the guests were really delighted by the experience.
The enormity of the occasion made us apprehensive at the beginning but due to the sincere assurances and finally the superb execution by the management and staff, headed by Mr. Shashank Jaiswal, and with the assistance of Mr. Tuhin, Mr. Sandip, Mr. Charanjeet and Mr. Sudipto, we have been able to have an exceptional and memorable wedding celebration. I would like to thank the entire team at the HHI for making this a wedding to remember for everyone who attended it.

This was my second consecutive visit, I was little concerned as by booking was after two days from the date We reached Kolkata. As I was going to Jamshedpur to visit my in-laws, however last moment I thought that instead of carrying all the luggage to and fro in Jamshedpur to leave them @ hotel. So I got intouch with Mr.Sandeep Chakraborty whom I explained my situation, he immediately took initiative not only to arrange in keeping my stuff but also very promptly arranged for a car for my pickup from the airport. Trust me that not only ease my travel as I was travelling with my wife and my daughter who is 4 years, it also saved the hassle of looking for a cab at the airport, firstly it was during Durga Puja, secondly I reached Kolkata at 3 am in the morning. And now coming to the stay it was also wonderful all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The location is also very nice from here communicating to any part of Kolkata is not a problem ( metro is just a minute walk). And if you want to grab delicious food , then all the famous restaurants are in a proximity of 10 minutes. So according to me it’s a very good experience staying in this property, I prefer this if I’m in Kolkata. Thanks

Hygienic and spacious rooms along with easy exit to the ground floor without any hassle. I would only suggest that an iron should be included in each room for convenience, but they do provide one if requested for. The restaurant below called Mythh has a good variety in English breakfast and very friendly and helpful staff. I liked the scrambled eggs as well as the omelet they served during breakfast. They even have a nice hall for celebrations as well as an open air space for the same.

Hotel Hindustan International, one of the heritage 5star hotels in Kolkata is not so premium after all.

A 1 night stay including complimentary breakfast buffet costed around 5.5k INR.

The hotel has a vallet parking and a huge concierge. The hallway to the room is as messy and dirty as it could get with stuff lying around. I found a few moulds and mushroom growing from the side of the walls.

The room was alright but not at all a heritage hotel quality.

A cup of tea is Rs.200 + taxes but the quality was so not worth it.

Anyway, I was looking forward to the breakfast buffet, but it was just another addition to my disappointment.

They only had Indian spread like idly, vada, puri bhaji , in addition to cornflakes, bread, fruits and juices. I was expecting a continental spread as well which is very common in places like these. The did have "make your own eggs/ dosa " on request but if you don't know they do that, none of the staff had the courtesy to inform you that. The plates, cups, cutleries were dirty and covered in dust. I spent atleast a minute to find a washed and clean cup for my tea.

I still would have let all this go If the food atleast was good, but it was just as tasteless and disappointing as everything else.

We had to spend just one night at this hotel and it was a terrible experience. We were glad to be checking out the very next morning. The photos will let you see the poor upkeep of the room. First we experienced a constant loud sound from the AC, which their Maintenace team came and fixed. In the morning I found my suitcase wet and looked up to find droplets from the AC area. The washroom looked so terrible that I decided not to bathe and use it as little as possible. The phone operators took their own sweet time to pick calls, which immediately indicated the lack of top notch service. The bell boys that transferred the luggage to the room and then back down kept hanging over, not at all discreetly, waiting for a tip, almost insisting on a tip. The hotel looked great on the outside but their rooms need so much improvement at the price they’re charging. We did not try the breakfast even though it was included so can’t comment on the food. The funny thing is they call themselves a five star hotel on their site. Please don’t be fooled into staying here.

Why I compared this hotel to Air India (before Tata took over) is that, this hotel, infrastructure wise is in a dilapidated state. The room we got was on 6th floor and never have I ever stayed in a more dilapidated room than this one. Seepage, broken AC, peeling off plasters, dirty towels, broken tap with very low pressure water from it, barely a few channels in the TV , dark dingy corridors, shabby pick up/drop cars...you just can go on naming the issues. 10 years back I stayed in this hotel when it was less dilapidated.

The saving grace was the service and food quality. Pretty quick service in room and at the restaurant. Food was really tasty at least even after 10 years this thing hasn't gone down. Check out time was at 12pm still they allowed us to stay till 4pm which was another good thing.

Talking of restaurant, big issues except food quality/taste. The day we went down to have dinner , there was no menu! They were absolutely reluctant to give the menu instead the restaurant manager said "what can I get for you dal roti, sabzi tell me". Believe me it sounded like I was in a Dhaba (even in dhaba they would give a menu at least). Then we came to know, the buffet kept there was reserved for a group of youngsters partying and that the manager out of pity allowed us to have that pre booked buffet (done by the party group) which was only veg and nothing exotic.

This is ridiculous! Why are outsiders allowed to book the entire buffet of their choice when the restaurant was meant for the residents? On top of that the manager refused to serve us starters as well. Long back in 2012 they had all these but not now. They barely had any desserts and the cakes kept there were reserved for whom? You guessed it! That young party group. Absolutely shameful that they didn't allow the residents to have a better selection but gave more priority to the outsiders. Never would bigger hotels allow outsiders to fully book the buffet of their main restaurants it is just that HHI Kolkata have gone bankrupt so they are forced to use these cheap tactics.

I won't give HHI Kolkata another chance if they can't renovate their hotel and stop using these cheap business tactics where they favor outsiders more than their residents . When outsiders come, they should be given the option of Ala carte or select from the buffet that the hotel decides and not the opposite.

2 stars solely for the 2nd paragraph mentioned. positives

HHI Kolkata is one of my favourite hotels for stay in Kolkata. We stayed here for 2 nights on 29th Jan 2021 with my family for a weekend trip. It is conveniently located near all the important business and leisure areas like Park Street, Victoria Memorial, Nandan, Kalighat, etc. The ambience of the hotel is great and the rooms are very well furnished. Wi-fi is free with moderate speed. The housekeeping staff is well trained and prompt in their service. Room service and cleanness are up to the mark. Buffet Breakfast has limited variety but satisfactory. The care received from the restaurant staff makes your meal special. Due to COVID, Dinner is served in your room. The food taste is also excellent. Thanks to Chef Sudip Banerjee for the specially curated menu on our request and Mr. Sougata for his nice attention. Overall it was a pleasant experience. An earnest request to the management for enabling luggage sanitization and temperature check of guests at the time of entry. A good thing is that the hotel is not crowded which maintains the norms of social distancing. Last but not the least, a special thanks to Mr. Charanjeet for this best cost-effective package for us.

We spent 3 nights last weekend. The first room we were assigned had dirty windows, mildew in bathroom, poor and leaking fixtures and aged bedsheets, furniture, carpet and towels. We requested an upgrade and the staff respectfully showed us two additional higher grade rooms. All rooms are same size. We ended up selecting the best looking room, but even this one was like a room in 1 or 2 star hotel, dirty windows, sofa, floor rug and leaking fixtures.

Also the quality of food for breakfast buffet is inferior. I have eaten breakfast before with a friend a few years ago and recall it to be much better.

Swimming pool was closed (covered with plywood) and bar was too noisy (extremely loud music) and smelly from people being allowed to smoke inside.

They have an excellent location in central Kolkata. They can leverage this by remodeling the entire hotel and hire more qualified restaurant manager and cooks. On the plus side, staff is very responsive and respectful.

The hotel is old. And it is visible. In more ways than one. Rooms are good but with multiple problems, small though. Some plug point not working or AC remote not working properly and so on.

While the location, from the point of view of the city's geography is very good, it is a very congested place now.

The restaurant is average.
