Detailed Reviews
We had taken the family room. The room was basic, although there was AC the room had stink of old linen. The room also was used as storage for old non working TV sets. There was no dusting done in the room for may be months.
Got very cheap for 2800 for only night stay for a family of 06 adults plus 2 children.
Although the staff and the owner was very courteous, had kept the booking without any advance and readily welcomed even when we checked in at 00:45 hrs. (IT'S A LODGE SO THEY LOCK THE MAIN GATE AND KEEP).
There was also a thank you message from the owner for staying with the hotel post departure, which was courteous.

When I was shown my bed, there was a lizard in it and the lizard had defecated multiple times on the sheets. When I asked to have the sheets changed, the hotel staff brushed away the feces and said it was fine. Stayed here one night and would have stayed more if my bed had not been a lizard's nest.

The hotel is in a good location and the staff especially the owner are helpful and friendly. Our triple room was a good size for three people. However it was pretty dirty and we had to go and ask for basics such as sheets and towels. Bathroom had seen better days. Not bad for the price but don’t expect the Hilton.

This was the worst place we’ve ever been. The staff (especially the manager) were extremely unprofessional and don’t know how to talk with customers.
He changed our rooms that we originally booked from Booking.com without informing us. When we pointed out the dirty room, he did get his staff to change the sheets but then he was extremely rude when asked a question about the use of toilet paper – something we didn’t expect at all and took us by surprise. He said he lived in the US for 30 years and never used toilet paper; he implied we were entitled then said ‘If you don’t like it, I’ll give your money back right now and you can go somewhere else’ but when taken up on the offer refused to do so and himself and his staff threatened my life! He said if I complained about this to the NZ Embassy or Police, we won’t be able to stay anywhere in Kolkata as his brother is an MP and he has connections with the police etc. He also threatened us by saying that he had our passport information and that he would make sure we could not come back to India again.
This place made our entire trip to Kolkata hell. As mentioned to customers in person in front of him (which brought about more threats): if you want to stay somewhere safe, avoid this place.

This place was centrally located and a quick walk or drive from all the main sites. As a backpacking tourist, this hotel offered me everything I needed including a comfy bed, a helpful staff, and a great location. And you can't beat the price!

if you've come to Kolkata just with backpack and don't plan to spend to much for accomodation but still don't want to stay in any ugly place near market or railway station -this is good option.
+
1) location: not too far from railway station sealdah/ 1 min walk to bus and tram stop. walking distance to park street and old cemetery
2) very calm street. previously i stayed on Sarat Bose Road and couldn't sleep till 2-3 am. here there is no any noise
3) reasonable price
4) very friendly, warm staff - they were ready to my visit, they answered all my questions (places of interest, transport, prices etc)
5) after check-out you can leave your language on the reception desk+ there is common area where you can relax and get wi-fi
the only one minus - the bed linens were not thoroughly washed (stained), but i travel with my own bedsheets so it wasn't a problem

I booked it because it said they provide an airport shuttle but they don't. It's a mile away from the main backpacker places which I moved to after the first night as they are cheaper. One of the guys was funny with me about this and didn't let me leave my luggage. The other guy was really nice and friendly though. Altho a little expensive and a few niggles as mentioned, they were very helpful when I first arrived and even though I'd booked a dorm they gave me a room on my own as I was a solo female and there was just one guy in the dorm. There's work going on there so it's quite noisy and dusty and there's no restaurant.
