This is a nice colonial property which is situated right in the center of the religious city of Anuradhapura with walking distance to many attractions /religious locations. You can hope in a Tuk Tuk and ask them to take you around ,which you can cover all the important historical attractions in 3 hours (best to start around 3:00 pm),The hotel needs a bit of refurbishment and the rooms were not that clean and had dust on the floors and in the furniture, the food was okay. The bathrooms were not that clean and had some bad odor.
Old ancient architectural masterpiece..!! It was a fantastic stay with specious rooms and lovely food..!! Lucky if you gets a room in the upstairs..!! most stupas and Buddhist sites are nearby..! Great staff..!!
Only good thing was it's central location to the various tourist sites. Have had nicer stays at backpacker hostels at a third of the price. - Aircon took 8 hrs to go from 33 to 25 degrees celcius. Had set it at 16 degrees. - Barking dogs at night. - Smelly and used pillows, had to call for them to change. - Had frogs jumping out of the sink and toilet bowl the first time we used it. - Bed is very creaky. - 80% of the tv channels are blurry and has static. - Broken shower head. - Dirty toilet. - Very inconsistent water pressure, had to consistently adjust the knob while showering.
On entering the grounds leading up to the Sanctuary you feel very relaxed and The historical building is very welcoming with its wide verandahs, Staff service was good and restaurant good . My room was large and the bathroom large all was very clean and well kept,TV was small . The grounds outside have lots of monkeys getting up to monkey business haha and wild peacocks roaming around the beautiful large trees which surround the building. This building is heritage listed so no modern alterations can be done but what it does give you is the era of the 1900s and how the English lived at that time , well worth a stay and close to all temples and sights.
It’s a beauty place BUT the old wing is terrible. The bathroom smells and full of frogs! The cleanliness of the rooms weren’t great at all. The AC had water dripping down. However the food and the staff were friendly and enjoyed that aspect. I don’t think I would go there again unless they repair the rooms and do something about the frogs!
