The atmosphere and grounds of the hotel are superb. Peacocks and wildlife in the big garden. Great location near all of the tourist sites. Small boutique and colonial feel. We were a family of 6 and stayed in 2 rooms and worked well for us. We used the pool at the sister hotel for the kids. Great service and friendly environment.
This is probably my 4th stay at the hotel. I visited with a foreign friend, who was very impressed with the old bungalow, large garden, and good Sri Lankan food. The younger staff were very polite and eager to please. We got an upgrade to Room No.1 which was used by the Queen when she visited Sri Lanka. It was a large room with a double bed, and another small room attached. The wash room was well appointed, but the door was a bit primitive. The hotel even took care of some laundry, and returned the clothes within the day. The Sanctuary At Tissawewa is situated centrally, and we came back to it at mid day just to freshen up and stay away from the noon sun. They provided driver accommodation.
This hotel maintains the old world “rest house” atmosphere. Very good location and large garden area is desired by any visitor. They have bicycles provided free of charge to ride around the city. Right now due to slow tourist arrivals the place was quiet. Good Sri Lankan fare was available.
It is a beautiful place near to sri maha bodiya (1km) and train station (3km). Hotel arranges tuk tuk service , reasonable price. Tuk tuk drivers know this place as sanctuary rest house or rest house not by the proper name . We were servved with welcome drink and was kind enough to serve with breakfast with in shorttime. We got fruit juice ,fruit platter ,tea pot with western style breakfast(1000/= per meal) . They have la carte menu for lunch and dinner . My husband ordered seer fish (1500/=)with boiled vegs which he enjoyed . I ordered nasigorang(925/=) not the best. Cooked with tomato sauce. Hot chocolate (325/=)is not my cup of tea. They just dissolve hot chocolate in boiling water and ask whether we want milk. Not happy with it. But i must say staff is really friendly…
We stayed here just one night, to break a long journey, so had nothing much planned except relaxing on a verandah for which this place is perfect! The building is beautiful and set in lovely gardens, the room was comfortably furnished with nice touches and everything was super clean. The staff were really attentive and the food was delicious, portions are large and I felt bad leaving the food as it was so lovely. Brilliant location within the ancient city perfect for sightseeing in Anuradhapura and nearby Mihintale. Easy journey by tuk tuk from the train station and they arranged onward travel for us with a safe and careful driver for a reasonable rate. Highly recommended
