Detailed Reviews
Awesome place! It feels like a lost desert village. The accommodation is simple but comfortable. The staff are fantastic. The owner was great - he creates a personal connection with the guests and gave me excellent recommendations for activities that my family loved. The food is traditional Israeli food, which you can't go wrong with. There's tea and Turkish coffee on the boil in the main tent most of the day and I loved sitting in the Bedouin tent, sipping Turkish coffee and looking out over the desert. Absolutely loved it.

Great location. A wonderful feel of a small community/village. Rooms are clean and spacious. The hosts are very nice and always there to cater for any need. Many places in campground to have your own bonfire. the Breakfast is a bit lean and too simple compare to what you usually gets in Israel. Don't forget to bring your own towels and shampoo - for some reasons they don't provide those. Bottom line recommended!

My sister and I spent 5 days at Desert Shade. This was my second visit and not much has changed. The owners Ziv and Maya are very friendly and made us feel welcome. It's a wonderful relaxing place with a carefree atmosphere and close to shops, public transport and the machtesh (crater). The sunrise each morning is spectacular and directly in front of you and hiking along the crater rim is as easy as walkng out the back gate. We also enjoyed day trips to the surrounds which were organised by Ziv when requested. Thanks again to all the staff and hope to return again in the future. We had a great time.

We went as a family for the stars review during the meteor showers. Maybe things changed during Covid, but there was little hospitality. The starts tour was mainly a power point presentation fitting little kids instead of a telescope pointing at the skies. Our room was clean but bare and the private toilet door could not lock. No explanation about the ecological choices of the place was provided. When we tried speaking to the manager, we were told that we must be tourist because we are complaining and that everyone else loves the place. Our advise - go elsewhere: for $330 per night, many pleasant choices around.

I highly recommend to stay at this place. the view is just amazing and the owners are very very friendly and you feel at home when you are there. We stayed with our handicapped teenager who is in a wheelchair. the desert shade has an adapted place for him and we were received with a lot of hospitality and friendship. it was really one of our best if not the best experience during our trip in Israel.

We went with friends. We cocked on the fire with a pot we brought. You have a kitchen to cut and wash the dishes.
The staff was kind, nice and helpful. We slept in one of the cabins, it was small but you didn't need more than that.

Thank you Hellen for your review. Our Eco-Camp does not fit everyone, we welcome people who look for the atmosphere, the silence and scenery more than the facilities. Other than that we are working hard to keep the Eco-Camp clean and pleasent. We are sorry to not meet your expectations.

Unfortunately there is light pollution from Mitzpe Ramon so you'll need to gain some distance from the town for professional pictures.
As mentioned here, a short walk will make good results.
For best results we recommend going down to the crater with a car. 10 minutes ride and you will find zero light pollution.
We are sorry but pets, even if are completely trained, are not allowed on the Eco Camp premises.
