Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I spent 4 nights in Green Backpacker and it was definitely one of my best experiences during my stay in Israel! As it was already said, in this place you feel more like in somebody's house and that was the atmosphere I felt throughout my stay there. The volunteers - Kasia, Hunter and Ethan - were super friendly and gave us plenty of advice on hiking on the surrounding trails and exploring Mitzpe Ramon itself. In their free time they'd also socialize with volunteers. When it comes to commodities, everything you might need is there - extra bottles for hiking, hats, backpacks (they do make sure you're safe on the trail!), environmental-friendly features, plenty of books, games, and most of all, friendly people. My days in Green Backpacker were never long enough - so many things to do, so many people to talk to, so many experiences to exchange. Thank you for the amazing stay and hope to see you again one day - Ewelina from Poland/Portugal.

I traveled at the Negev with my girlfriend for a couple of days and we decided to try this hostel for 2 nights. When we arrived we discovered a very cool and cosy place with great people - staff and other travelers.

Things I liked about this place:
1. It is very clean, they clean the common area (specially the toilet) a few times a day
2. Nice and well equipped kitchen
3. Very cosy porch
4. Comfy beds
5. Parking lot in front of the hostel.
6. The location is near the beginning of different hiking trails.
7. The staff was super helpful with planning our trip.

A small youth hostel with a variety of room types. We were in the only private room with private bath. It had a double bed and up a high ladder was another bed. We are in our 60,s but young at heart. We were 3 times as old as anyone else there. There is a common room and a full kitchen where you can prepare your meals. The manager comes in morning and evening with very helpful information on hikes in the area. The price might be good for the dormitory rooms, but our room, although less expensive than other hotels, was not cheap.

Located perfectly by the hiking trails out in the desert, this hostel also is both beautiful and comfy with an at-home-feeling. The staff is great; both friendly, caring and really knowledgeable about the activities to do in and around Mitzpe Ramon. Thank you for a lovely stay!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Green Backpackers. Lee was very helpful and answered all my emails promptly.

The hostel is quite quirky - very environmentally aware and with an honesty box for visitors who want to take food or drinks. They have some volunteers working there in return for board and lodgings.

My single room in the new block up the road was very comfortable. Lee stored our luggage for us when we went off for our 5 day trek - and came out to visit us one day in the jeep. I sensed that she feels passionately about what she does and really wants everyone to have a great experience and enjoy their time in the desert.

I had an unfortunate experience at The Green Backpackers. The manager forced two girls to stay in more expensive rooms than what they booked because they knew other people staying at the same time. The manager evoked the “5 person group limit” even though there was not an intent to travel strictly as a group. They said that they could either pay more or they would kick us all out. I felt that the management was taking advantage of us and was being dishonest and uncharitable. I won’t be coming back to recommending the place to others.

Hi Brooke. We were surprised to get your review as we discovered the overcharge already during your stay and REFUNDED you on the spot, and even more after the fact that part of your group was actually UPGRADED to a better dorm for the same price. Our 5 person policy is posted on the website, and you confirmed it when you made your 3 different reservations - for the 7 of you... I do apologize if you felt that our staff communicated this policy in too strict a manner, this is the first time we had to deal with a single-group reservation disguised as 3 separate parties. This policy is made to insure the comfort of all our guests. We are a very small hostel and from past experience, having groups in the hostel make it uncomfortable for the group and for the other guests. We want to give the best possible service and experience. Sadly, at this point in time, we can not do so when we accommodate groups. We would be happy to have you with us in the future, hopefully in a bigger building, where we can accommodate groups as well. Lee

One of the best hostels I have been to. Comfortable beds, super clean and lovely.
Big thanks to staff. They welcome you warmly and help you to plan your stay. We got map, they marked every interesting place for us and planned an awesome hike in the desert. Really appreciated it!

This hostel tries very hard: it is friendly, very clean, green, has a book exchange, videos, free coffee and a good vibe. Our only gripe is that it was the most expensive place we have stayed in Israel for the facilities. The room was comfortable but very small and we had to share the toilet facilities. We were paying much less for fully self- contained apartments in other parts of Israel. I know this is still one of the cheapest options in Mitzpe Ramon, but feel that Israel on the whole and Mitzve in particular is not good value for money. I note that most of the reviews have been written by people that have only written 1 or 2 reviews ever; it makes me wonder about their veracity.

Thank you for your review. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay with us and liked the vibe and cleanliness. These are things we are very proud of, and will continue to work hard so that travelers will enjoy them. Israel is an expensive travel destination (and an expensive place to live too, believe me). As far as the hostel goes, though, you knew the price when you made the reservation, and you knew we are the cheapest in town, so I'm assuming you knew what you were getting in terms of value for money. Also, a small correction- you chose a room with a shared toilet. You chose not to reserve the en-suite room that we do offer. And you chose not to take the room in the second floor that is equally private and slightly cheaper. Were the pictures on the website not clear? We do our best to make sure guests are well informed about all of the facilities before they arrive. All of our rooms are described and pictured from different angels on the website, and we send a confirmation email with all of the information, to make sure the expectations are set exactly to what we provide. Should we include more information in the email? Were there any pictures we could have sent you to give you a better understanding of the room and facilities? Since you liked our staff and vibe, rating us low over something you knew and accepted coming in, seems a little out of place, but still we appreciate your review as it points to a possible area we need to improve. We are very proud of the reviews we have received over the years. They reflect the experience travelers like yourself had at our hostel, and the efforts we make to ensure the best service, atmosphere and cleanliness. If you read the comments and not just scan the ratings you will see these are people that indeed stayed with us and commented on specific aspects of their stay or our location. There is a touch of hypocrisy in writing comments and reviews and relying on reviews for planning your visit, but then publicly questioning reviews of others (who are saying much of the same things you, in fact, are...) Hope you have great travels in the future. Lee

I stayed there one night even though I wanted to stay more. I felt really welcommed there. Everything is very clean. The location is perfect. I just regret that they were so worried about seeing me hiking that they didnt give me so good advice for my first day but I guess they dont trust foreigners going to the desert so much ^^

There is a small food store with everything just a 7 minute walk from the hostel, and a big Supermarket - a 15 minute walk from us. There is also a cab in town that we can call for you...

Hi there, 1. There is a Supermarket a 15 minute walk from the hostel, and a mini-market about 5-7 minute walk from us. The only time we recommend bringing the food with you - is if you plan on arriving late on Friday... 2. They are all closed from Friday at around 14:00 till Sunday morning, and almost all restaurant are closed as well. We normally have a "Shabat-Dinner" every Friday night. It's actually a pot-luck dinner, so everyone makes a dish and than we all sit together and eat. 3. We don't have any meals in the hostel.. so the prices don't include any. 4. Yes - There is a refrigerator in our kitchen. There is also oil, spices, free tea - coffee and chocolate milk. I hope this helps...
