We just returned from a week stay at Blue Bahia Resort. We loved everything about the place! It's in a great location, convenient to shops and restaurants, yet quiet and cozy. Our room was cute and clean with a full kitchen and our view of the ocean from our private balcony wa

We are coming back in the spring. We absolutely loved the whole experience here. Wes, Carrie and Allen are fantasy bartenders and caretakers at the beach grill. They made us feel like family (in a good way).
We were so lucky to be able to meet with the dive shop right outside ou

We stayed here because we prefer a quieter vacation and wanted easy access to the reef for snorkeling. My travel companion got his scuba license right at the resort too. It's a very quiet and casual place and the staff is amazing at the resort as well as at the dive shop. I alrea

We usually stay Posada Arco Iris in Half Moon Bay but because Roatan Divers opened a new dive shop in the hotel we went there.
Only ten units with a restaurant and pool. Super nice, clean, friendly.
The diving shop being there opens up new parts of the Reef.

I am curious as to the cost involved if you buy your own groceries? How do food prices compare to the U.S.? Also, do the restaurants charge "touristy" prices for meals and drinks, should you choose to eat out?
The US imports are about 20% higher but generally the grocery food is same price. The restaurant is not to spendy. $12 - 13 hamburgers with fries. Specialty foods are a little higher not much though. There are good restaurants in west end that are a little cheaper.

Is the property pet friendly? If not, can you recommend one?
Hello, the Blue Bahia Resort does allow pets. But we also warn against bringing them for short stays. There are a lot of regulations and issues to deal with when bringing a pet into Roatan. The government is not always the easiest to deal with in this manner. The island of Roatan and the area around the resort have lots of jungle and forest areas where your pet could get injured or lost. And there are resort and island dogs and cats around who can be protective of their space. I do not know of any resorts that have specific pet safe areas or plans. Thanks, Jeff

Can you accommodate a vegan diet (no meat, dairy, or eggs)?
Hello, the rooms at the resort have kitchens or kitchenettes so you are able to prepare food your way. Or you can ask the onsite Beach Grill restaurant and they can accommodate your requests. When you reserve a room, you can make a note and we will make sure it happens. Thanks, Jeff

We are interested in staying here in April. How far of a walk is it to West End and West Bay? We do not want to rent a car? Or would you recommend renting scooters? Thanks Leslie
Hello, it is 2 miles to West End. It is possible to walk but there are no sidewalks and the road is not easy to walk along. I recommend to most people to just use a taxi. They are relatively inexpensive and very easy to call. We can also help arrange for a rental car for about $50 a day. I do not recommend scooters. They are very dangerous on the island. Feel free to email me with any other questions. Jeff

As much as I enjoy "walk-in snorkeling", I have been passing over Roatan because of endless complaints of sand fleas (biting midges). I am NOT going to spend all my time diving and I DO want to relax ON the beach. 1) Are biting midges a concern? I like peace and quiet and natural sounds. 2) Will I be exposed to noisy, motorized, water sports? 3) Will I be forced to listen to music at the pool? Noisy kids? 4) Is there frequent commotion from temporary cruise passengers? I truly enjoy the peaceful, underwater world full of active visuals. I don't care for joining a gang of strangers on a snorkel boat. I look forward to brief, multiple, walk-in snorkeling. 5) Is the shore snorkeling worthwhile? (Thank you in advance.) 5)
Hello, I can help with some information. Yes, we do have sand fleas like most islands. They are not a problem for most of the year. They are not around during the cooler months of November - April. They are only a problem in September and October. If you were going to be on the beach, I would suggest natural bug repellent during the morning and evening hours. We are located in Sandy Bay area and it is very quiet here. No noisy boat traffic. The cruise ships are on the other side of the island and we get less than 10 cruise shippers per week visiting the restaurant. We do not have music around the pool. And the only kids would be other guests. But we are a small hotel with limited rooms, and rarely have families staying with us. As for snorkeling, the depth of the water is very shallow until you get to the barrier reef. The reef is about 200 feet off shore and the depth inside does not exceed 15 feet. There are areas of sandy bottoms with bottom fish, eels, and other life. There are extensive grassy areas with lots of baby fish, seahorse, star fish, and other life. We also have rocky areas that are great for night snorkels. I have heard reports of octopus, eels, squid and many other critters. You will enter and exit by the ladders at the end of the dock. That is also the best place to spend time away from the beach fleas. The scuba diving is incredible. The reef is very healthy. Most of the dive sites we visit are less than 10 minute boat ride away. And they are very diverse from shallower areas to deep water, wrecks and canyons all easy to explore. Feel free to contact us if you have more questions. Trust me, I hate sand fleas also and this island has a relatively mild issue with them. I have been places much worse. Jeff

"The loft has two queens upstairs and my teens wouldn’t share so I brought an air bed for them."
"Big units full kitchen but all have basics. If you need something extra, just ask and it will be supplied."
"there are only 8 rooms and all are different some have full size kitchens others have a small counter if you prefer not to cook."
"If you are looking for extra privacy, be sure you do not get the room directly above the dive shop, because it gets a lot of action."
