Never in my life have I been ripped of by a hostel like this. The owner is hysterical and sometimes agressive. He tried to steal money, only when I threatened to call the police did he agree to give me my money back...
Loved the town, and this space was great value right on the beach. Saburo and staff were accommodating and easy going. There are a couple of pools, shared kitchen, and a nice upstairs patio with lots of seating that looks over the main break. They have a restaurant that can sometimes bring some visitors especially on weekends and can get busier once in a while. Otherwise a pretty chill spot.
We had two friends staying in the hotel and they told us to come and have a drink and some lunch. When we entered the staff whistled at us and told us that we had to either pay $10 entry or by food. As that was our plan, we ordered the food from a guy, who then proceeded to tell us that we weren’t at all allowed up to the place where our friends were. After some disagreement between staff, finally they gave us the go ahead to see our friends with the conditions that it was for a maximum of one hour and we didn’t use the pool. When we made it upstairs, there wasn’t anything nice about it besides the view. Dirty pool, and a couple of local families laying around. I usually wouldn’t complain as I know we are in El Salvador, but they acted like we were entering the Hilton. The food was ok and I enjoyed a beer with my friends, and when I tried to pay the bill they didn’t have any change and requested that I pay a tip. Usually that’s what I would have done, but after receiving the rudeness while entering, this was the last thing that I wanted to do, so I waited 5 minutes for them to find my change. A lot of potential here with a good location, but the staff need to be more professional and more informed. …
horizonte is a great place to stay in El zonte. it is right on the beach so you have great views of the ocean from the rooftop deck. there is not one, but *two*, pools at this place - one in the garden and one up on the rooftop. the rooftop ramada also has hammocks, tables and chairs since it is part of the hotel's restaurant. the shared bathrooms are cleaned each day. there is a common kitchen with the basics like pots and pans. because of the restaurant, the hotel does tend to get quite busy (and can be noisy) on the weekends but during the week it is fairly quiet. the owner and the people who work here are great - very friendly and helpful!
My boyfriend and I stayed at Horizonte at the end of September for a couple nights, and we loved our stay! We had a private room with a shared bath, and while the room was pretty small, it was all we needed- we were only in the rooms to sleep anyway. The property grounds so are beautiful and very well-maintained! The pool (where I spent most of my time!) is big and clean- plenty of pool chairs as well. The shared kitchen was well-equipped and there are plenty of hammocks to chill and read in. There is also an upstairs palapa overlooking the sea that is simply unbeatable! Great place to have a beer and watch the surfers below. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who doesn't mind having a minimal living space in exchange for really spectacular hotel grounds!
