The citizenM Austin Downtown Hotel offers a high-tech experience with its modern amenities and customizable lighting, which guests have called out for contributing to the hotel's unique atmosphere. Despite its central location being popular for ease of access to downtown attractions, some guests have criticized the small room sizes and eclectic decor. The service receives praise for attentiveness, although occasional inconsistencies are noted. While the hotel's cleanliness is generally commended, noise levels from the streets and hallways are a concern for many travelers, and opinions on value and amenities are mixed.

This is a very trendy, European style hotel in the heart of downtown Austin. As a design professional, I really liked the modern and trendy style the hotel took on. This trip was for a conference that was in town and I was traveling alone, so the smaller European style room worked well for me. I probably wouldn't recommend this for more than one person, though you might be able to get away with two people if you travel light. There just isnt enough space for two suitcases unless they were both carry on size. I liked the colored LED strips in the room, It made for navigating in the morning or at night more pleasant than having blazing white light. All in all, I would stay here again. There were a couple of misses, one of which is the RFID room key reader in the elevators. Its not quick to read and it was not obvious that your key was verified in order to use the elevator. Some sort of better visual indication would be better (floor buttons lighting up in some animation, or blinking?) The other miss was the toilet in the rooms. Its an ultra low water use toilet, which I totally understand for hospitality use. Keeps the costs down where you can for sure. However, its lack of water in the bowl made it get....soiled quickly. And with regular room cleaning every 3 days...it resulted in you cleaning it yourself. Sure, I could have requested earlier room cleaning but I feel like if your standard is every 3 days, then the room should feel clean for 3 days. A standard or even lower than standard toilet would have gotten you there.

I stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting Austin, during our road trip around Texas. The hotel is overall very good.

The location is excellent and is banged in the middle of the CBD/ Downtown and as such, everything is an easy and short walk away.

The hotel is very modern, warm and welcoming. The lobby and communal areas are great.

The rooms are the only downside for the hotel.
1. I knew what to expect and the concept of the modern rooms, but on review, the rooms are very small. Everything is very compact and with two large suitcases, they didn’t fit anywhere and if you’re sleeping on the window side and need the toilet overnight, you need to climb over your partner.
2. Housekeeping appeared to have wiped the surfaces in our room and all surfaces had a layer of dust.

The pool and bar on the roof was pretty cool, albeit on the small side.

The staff were great and helpful throughout. Very welcoming and helpful.

There is no parking included, which was a downside. We managed to find a multi-story opposite via an app the hotel recommended for about $15 a night, which wasn’t too bad.

It was overall a pleasant stay and I would stay here again for a short stay.

Citizen M is such a gem! The room is very European...small but no wasted space. It was perfect for our stay. The curtains/blinds are perfect...literally no light comes in the night curtain, so you can easily sleep late. I've never stayed in a hotel where I didn't have to fight to get the curtains to close all the way...there's always a gap that lets in light but not here. The room was immaculately clean, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The rooftop pool and bar was a really neat amenity. The pool was a little small and was really full when we got upstairs. We weren't planning on swimming so it wasn't a big deal, but it would've been hard to find a place to get into the pool. We had a drink at the rooftop bar, and the employee was very friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, just a wonderful place to stay. I wish there was a CitizenM in every city! We will definitely stay again next time we're in a city with a CitizenM hotel!

We experienced multiple issues during our stay, being moved to four different rooms in less than 6-8hours due to various problems. The staff did not apologize and made us feel responsible for their lack of preparedness. While they offered us free breakfast as compensation, it was subpar. We've had great experiences at citizenM in Miami and Los Angeles, but the Austin location was disappointing. We would not recommend it to our friends at this time. The main issue seems to be a lack of management and leadership, as the staff members we came into contact with were unprofessional. We hope the situation improves because we generally enjoy the citizenM brand. Aside from that, the location is great. A quick walk around the corner you’ll find some cool spots to eat. Uber trips are cheap and everything worth doing is no more than a 10-20 minute drive.

Upon checking in, I found my room to be extremely small and unclean. The room was full of dust, and there was hair on the sheets and pillows. Additionally, the room had an unpleasant smell of bacon, which made the stay very uncomfortable. The hallway carpet was also full of dust, and there was a constant disturbance from noise in the other rooms and the sound of doors closing and music.

Given the high price of the room, I was expecting a more pleasant experience, including breakfast, which was not included. Furthermore, the pool area was closed for most of my stay, and the gym was tiny.

These issues significantly impacted the quality of my stay and did not meet the expectations set by your establishment.

Just stayed one night, but had a good time! The rooms are small so know that going in, but for one or two people it’s fine for a weekend getaway. I think the room size would get frustrating after more than three nights though.
The room was comfortable with a firm mattress. My bed only had the comforter/duvet—no top sheet which was weird. I loved the blackout screen. It really made the room pitch black in the middle of the afternoon. The only thing that ruined it was the 3 separate things in the room with little flashing lights (two types of fire alarms and a plug). I managed to cover those up, but bring a roll of electrical tape with you if that’ll ruin your sleep!
The room did come with a hair dryer, which was nice, but when I tried to use it, it tripped the fuse! The front desk responded quickly and got the lights back on for me, but she told me they’d been having issues with that and it might be best not to use the dryer. I was just heading home for the day, so I didn’t care about wet hair in the car, but if you’re planning to go out that might be frustrating.
Breakfast was really good, tons of choices: eggs, bacon, hash browns, sausage, pastries, muffins, fruit, coffee. For convenience, it was nice, but $21 is a lot for what most people are going to eat. You could get more for less at a local eatery.
All in all, a nice stay for just one night. Would probably stay again!

I had a truly disappointing experience at CitizenM Austin. While the hotel prides itself on being modern and convenient, the reality was far from it.

First, the rooms are incredibly small and uncomfortable, leaving very little space to move around. It felt more like a glorified dorm room than a hotel stay. But the real issue was the service—or lack thereof. I brought my pet with me, only to find out (after checking in) that the hotel is not pet-friendly, something that should have been made explicitly clear during the booking process. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the staff was rude and dismissive, ultimately asking me to leave.

What made this worse is that their policies on pets weren’t easy to find, leaving me to scramble for alternative accommodations after an already stressful arrival.

Overall, CitizenM fell short in terms of comfort, service, and clarity of policies. I would not recommend staying here, especially if you’re traveling with pets or expecting decent customer care.

Check in was okay, we checked in using a kiosk and I was done and scanning my room keys, when the front desk ambassador mentioned where the best rooms are to choose from, so since I was on a lower floor on the opposite side, he changed the room for us. There wasn’t anyone to help with luggage, which wasn’t a problem for my husband and I, but there was a man in a wheelchair who I helped to his room on the 12th floor with his luggage. Once we got to the room everything is run with an iPad in the room. We wanted to turn on the tv while we got ready for our dinner reservation, but we kept getting a something went wrong error and had to call the front desk. They were able to reset it all from there. I had the app and was supposed to be able to use it too, but it didn’t work either. We noticed there was no washcloths in the room, so I asked housekeeping for two of them since they were next door. My husband then went to use a hair dryer after showering and as soon as he turned it on, it blew the breaker and the power went out in the whole room. So I was glad I hadn’t washed my hair yet, since I would have no way to dry and style it. The maintenance guy came up about 20 min after we called a couple times because we needed to finish getting ready so we weren’t late. He was able to reset the breaker after a few minutes but said we couldn’t use the hair dryer again. We finished getting ready and left for the evening. When we got back it was nice to know that you needed a room key to get in the building. We went up to the canteen and bought some waters and two cookies. The bartender was very nice and friendly. Once we got up to the room, ate our snack, and got ready for bed, we pulled the duvet cover back and there was no sheet to lay under. I checked to make sure it was tucked down and the only sheet was the one covering the mattress. By this time we are tired and don’t want to call down to the front desk and have someone come up to remake the whole bed. So we slept with just the duvet. I just hope those get washed often since that is touching everyone instead of a sheet. Plus then when you get hot at night you take the comforter off and have nothing to slightly cover you. Check out was quick and easy but I didn’t see anywhere to click guestbook at check out.

The rooms here are extremely small. There's not even a sink in the bathroom for washing your face and brushing your teeth; the sink is located outside the bathroom. These rooms are definitely not suitable for adults individuals. They claim the tap water is safe to drink, but they don't provide bottled water. The tap water has an unpleasant taste and is not suitable for drinking.

Moreover, there isn't even a coffee maker or coffee packets in the room. You have to buy regular coffee from their restaurant. Despite the high room rates, the amenities provided are minimal. However, you do get a large, comfortable bed. The hotel staff is very friendly.

Rooms are the size of a pack of gum! It’s like being in a camper/RV with hip decor, LED lights that turn pink, red, blue and all neon colors you can think of. The bathroom is soooo SMALL that the toilet bowl has to be attached to the wall (there’s no tank). And the toilet is the size of an RV toilet. The sink/vanity is the same thing, just a miniature size sink like you would see in an RV. I would say the size of the room is approximately 9- 10 feet wide (whatever the length of a bed is) by 30-40 feet long
The hotel decor is way over the top, red carpet with red lighting, the mural is just a bit disturbing for my taste. Personally, not my taste - I felt uncomfortable, out of place and of course claustrophobic in such a tiny room.

Hi CathyM20240925, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent stay at citizenM. Your feedback gives us an opportunity to learn more about our guests and how we can make them happier in the future so we truly appreciate the time you took to do it. We never like to hear that one of our guests had a less than positive experience during their stay and we apologize for not meeting your expectations. Our rooms are designed with a functionality focus rather than space. We believe that all the little perks like streaming TV, consistently hot showers, and a comfortable XL bed are more important than extra space but we do understand your preferences. We do also understand that our concept and brand is not for everyone and that is okay with us. We do hope you find the brand, room size, and hotel concept that best fits all of your needs along with the right pack of gum size for you. We are sad to see you go but confident you will find your home away from home hotel brand. Thank you again for your feedback! On behalf of Team citizenM Austin Downtown, Diego
