I was initially a bit skeptical about staying here upon seeing just a 4 rating on TripAdvisor. However we found the rooms to be very modern, updated and clean. The service was good and the location was excellent, right opposite the Nijo castle. The complimentary shuttle to the Kyoto train station was a big plus although make sure to get there a few minutes early as they sometimes get full.

+1
Hotel is a 10-15 minutes taxi ride from Kyoto station which costs around 1500 yen. It’s a bit of a strange location but one side of hotel does overlook the castle (I was on 5th floor with good view of castle and surrounding hills). The reception area, entrance and common areas do look very dated but they were all spotlessly clean and well maintained. I personally found the service good throughout the hotel. The 5th floor rooms look fairly recently refurbished compared to rest of hotel but was nice enough (see pictures) but the wardrobes are very small/shallow if you were here for a long stay. Very small Club lounge on 5th floor with limited range of free drinks 5-8.00pm for club rooms. The breakfast buffet was very good with wide selection of local and international dishes. There was a coffee shop and convenience store within 2-3 minutes walk from hotel. Overall I had a good stay to use as a base for a very busy visit schedule to see the many sights in Kyoto. If you are travelling in and out of Kyoto a lot on a trip I would stay at one of the hotels right next to/in the Kyoto station area rather than here.

Thank you very much for your recent stay with us at ANA CROWNE PLAZA KYOTO. We are so glad to read your comments that you are satisfied with your room and breakfast. We would like to add some information about the access to our hotel. A free shuttle bus service from and to Kyoto station runs every 15 minutes, and each way takes around 20 minutes. The operating hour from hotel to Kyoto station is 7:40AM and from 8:05AM until 7:50PM, and from Kyoto station to hotel is 8:00AM until 7:45PM. Since October, we have increased, on Saturday night only, three extra roundtrips to our shuttle service. The last departure from Kyoto Station is at 20:50PM. A subway station and bus stops close by also allow you to enjoy the city. Salon on 6th and 8th floors opens from 3pm to 8pm. All your comments are taken seriously and it will be referenced for room renovation in the future. We will look forward to welcoming you again on your next trip to Kyoto. This was a very comfortable hotel and located near public transportation and in walking distance of many of the sites. The hotel concierge was very helpful in getting us started on our site seeing and helping us get transportation to Osaka for our flight when we left. The hotel has a van that you can use to get to the train station and other stops in town so if you come in and or leave from the train station it is easy to get to the hotel.

We booked 4 night stay in March, 2020. Due to CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) travel warning forced us to cancel the trip to South Korea and Japan. All hotels we booked in Japan and Korea had offered Goodwill and refunded money except ANA Crown Plaza in Kyoto. They penalized us for full payment, not even willing to give any future travel credit. Very disappointed with it.

With the goals to achieve high-quality standards, deliver guest satisfaction and serve traveler's needs, Crowne Plaza was born. We are proud to be a hotel that is easy to do business with, unfortunately, your experience, regarding the request to cancel the reservation and refund the cost, as a result of the current global situation does not reflect this. We have taken the liberty of providing them your feedback and coaching to ensure that these issues are not repeated. Furthermore, I have sent you a Private Message to gather more details of your reservation. Unfortunately it was our worse stay for our time in Japan.
Firstly the entire hallway and roomed smelt of long over stained cigarettes.
Asked to see if any other options were available even with offering to pay the excess with next to no help/ support. I can put that down to maybe a breakdown in communication perhaps….
Rooms were extremely cramped for a family of 5. With the amenities equally as small.
Reasons it got some stars was because the Buffett breakfast, whilst slightly pricey, had a large selection and was tasteful and the location was very convenient.
I would strongly recommend looking else where ESPECIALLY if you have small children

After reading reviews about 'renovated rooms' we asked at the desk when we checked in. These aren't renovated they are just a different class of rooms called Luxury standard and unfortunately for us they were sold out at the time of our stay.
The hotel itself was nice, and in a nice location. Free shuttle to Kyoto station was handy and we used many times but can get busy. The staff were really nice, very helpful, especially the bell captain which for us was a lovely lady (didn't get her name sorry) who helped us with our luggage delivery forms.
The standard rooms just really let the hotel down, they were dark and the decor old fashioned. The beds were uncomfortable and the furniture felt like it could fall apart if we weren't careful so we didn't use it as they took our card for a security deposit. There were stains on the carpet, and the curtains were discoloured from the sun. When we turned the kettle on the lights dimmed in the room. We paid for breakfast during our stay but only used it once as we didn't particularly enjoy it.
We still enjoyed our time in Kyoto, just opt for the luxury standard rooms for better comfort.

4 stars is maybe a bit generous, 3.5 would be more fair. The hotel was clean, but really dated in style and decor. The bathroom had a bit of a damp smell, and unlike some of the 3*s we stayed in the amenities were much cheaper in quality.
No major complaints, the location is excellent for the palace, but about 30minute walk (a nice one) to main Kyoto, which to be fair is a good thing as it is so busy there!! There are two subway stations <10minutes away so getting to Nara, and Fushini Inari was easy.
If you are travelling in peak season and want somewhere comfortable but basics it is fine, but like everywhere in Kyoto the cost is quite steep for what you get, so if you can find somewhere in advance that is more authentic, that would be money better spent in my opinion.
The staff work very hard at the hotel, the concierge and maid service were very good.

Booked this because I am an IHG member. I was initially disappointed with the hotel when I reached - I thought that I had travelled back to the 1990s. But I grew to appreciate the location of the hotel, the comfort of the bed and the pillows, the free warm eye masks and the shuttle to and from Kyoto station.
Breakfast was nothing special but after staying a few days at Kimpton Shinjuku prior, it was probably hard to beat anyway.
Remember to check out the shuttle timings from Kyoto Station if u are arriving there.

This hotel experience was very pleasant. The room itself wasn't very big, but it was packed with amenities and was very comfortable with a pretty good view. One nice feature was the bus to the main train station, which was useful. Quaint hotel and staff was nice, but there wasn't enough unique features that would give it the excellent rating.

Stayed at this hotel for four nights, the room was dated, small and has carpet that needs replacing. The bathroom very small also had carpet and smelt like urine, was not good at all. The location is away from the city centre but they do run a shuttle bus into the city and its frequent. The hotel provides two cups, two spoons, tea, coffee and a kettle. Anything else, you need to provide. Staff are helpful and polite and happy to organise taxis. They also provided me an adapter to charge my phone. Overall average experience, I won't be rushing back there.

Yes bus shuttled between hotel and station. Check hotel for times.
Sorry no idea. Suggest you Email the hotel ..
Yes
Not far from station
And plenty bus
In my opinion a standard room will be big enough. We stayed with 3 adults in a standard room an it was ok.
About costs for the kid, I don’t know.
Lindawong9299 is right, shuttle service is frequent and usually reliable, departs JR Hachijo crntral exit always on minutes 00/15/30/45 while departing from hotel to center on minutes 05/20/35/55. Pretty useful for your tourism when in town and returning e.g. from railway station to hotel.Otherwise, underground station and bus stop for a dense and very useful efficient bus service across Kyoto is outside the CP hotel. So, not always taxi required.
