We stayed two nights at Westin Guangzhou.
The location is great, close to the Guangzhou East Railway station. It's also just a few minutes away by walk from the Linhexi West APM station. You can take the APM line to directly get to the Canton tower for sightseeing. This would help to avoid the traffic during the peak hours. There are also some shopping malls nearby, convenient for shopping and dining. However, when walking on the pavements and crossing the road, do beware of the electric scooters which often dash around to make deliveries.
The room is spacious and a bit worn. The central conditioning didn't function very well but no complaint otherwise. We didn't use the facilities like the gym, swimming pool so can't make a judgment.
One reason we chose Westin is because of its Chinese restaurant which is located on the 4th floor. We did dine there a lot when we didn't feel like going out. The quality is decent as you can also see a lot of local people coming here for brunch.
Although I didn't run into the issues other reviews mentioned, I can imagine that there is definitely room for improvement. May try other hotels for future trips to Guangzhou. But at least to me, this Westin remains to be a good choice.

Based on the last few reviews that I have read , I must say I was rather worried having to stay here. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and can see from the facade and the lobby that the hotel is indeed dated but the lobby is relatively crowded.
Prior to arrival , I did reach out to the hotel to check if I can be upgraded due to my membership status and was told it just an upgrade to Club level which I know is just a typical room on higher level. However during check in , I asked again and was lucky enough to be given a “Renewal Room” which is a suite with massage chair. The chair however did work at all. Signs of wear and tear can even be seen on the bathrobe as a big tear can be seen and no actions taken.
To be very fair to the hotel, the last few reviews given did not give a good impression of the hotel but I must say it is not as bad as it is described though indeed everything is very dated but at least the room I had is clean and does not have a moldy smell as it is not carpeted excessively like some old hotels. Nonetheless from the corners of the bathroom, you can see wear and tear.
The gym also looks decent though I didn’t use it as I only went for the pool which is decently sized at 15 m and offers both indoor and outdoor pool. The jacuzzi and sauna however does look very old !!
Breakfast is passable though not extensive and some food seemed on display for long especially the apple salad in which apple has browned.
However throughout the hotel , I felt the service of the staff highly pleasant especially Faye from the Club Lounge who even remembered my room number , not sure if it is a good sign :-)
Overall given the location , I would still be back as long as they keep it clean and presentable

The stay is great although as an older building, you are at the mercy of Central ah it conditioning temperature. My room was constantly above 25⁰c and basically we didn't sleep on our two nights getaway. Not allowed to open window and no alternatives because "other guests felt cold". Oh well, not a service issue.
Now, at check in we were upsold to include breakfast which we happily agree to. We were told breakfast ended at 10.30am. the morning after, we went to Seasonal Taste for breakfast and arrived kinda late at 9.55am. showed our key card to hostess. Then our regrets kicked in:
* Hostess was busy standing at entrance instead of showing us to our seat. "Just find any seat you prefer," she said.
* And we have to look for waiter to place our tea coffee order. They were too busy clearing table for lunch. Yes, that's more I'm literally more important than us.
* Food are no longer replenished at 10am. See pictures. I had to, sorry, raise my voice to ask for more fruits.
Westin / Marriott, please tell us that you closes before 10am instead of selling us 10.30am for horrible leftover.

What used to be a very good hotel has gone down the slippery slope of being very much a local Chinese hotel. Stayed there many times as you can see the drop in service levels the past one year. The gym used to open @10am (now 24 hrs) as compared with Marriott and Sheraton @6.30am. Wonder if they cater for housewives. The executive lounge is hot and uncomfortable, there are no teabags available, nobody wipes or cleans the gym, the people in the lounge just sits on their butts and never greets or smiles to customers.....service has deteriorated badly.

Visited the hotel during Christmas. First time stay.
We're back to the hotel after supper and about to undress. Only to find out that there weren't any supplies of daily comfort items (such as toothbrush & paste, shaver, comb etc.) in our room.
Called Housekeeping and very surprised to learn that the "missing" of comfort kits was intentional as the hotel has been actively promoting their environmental conservation policy, which encourages all hotel visitors to use less disposable comfort items.
As frequent travellers we found it very uncomforting for a 5-star hotel not providing "basic comfort (items)" unless you ask for them!
We're back to the hotel after supper and about to undress. Only to find out that there weren't any supplies of daily comfort items (such as toothbrush & paste, shaver, comb etc.) in our room.

With many excellent hotels which recently opened in the new CBD area, Westin is no more a good choice, as the hotel is getting old and somewhat worn out, both in rooms and at the executive lounge. Windows are not sound proof and you can hear a lot of noise coming from the nearby busy traffic and numerous road constructions. Breakfast is just average. Very friendly staff though

I'll be honest, the first impression when walking into the room was not great. Rugs were on the worn side, furniture was in good shape but slightly past its prime, decor was getting dated and there was a mildly musty smell. But the hotel made up for its age in other ways. Service was generally good and, in comparison to the Sheraton we had stayed at prior to this hotel, more personal and friendly. The club lounge was also superior, with a very nice happy hour spread, ample seating and staff. Likewise the breakfast, which had a wide variety of well prepared dishes and was well managed. It may not be the newest hotel in town but the value was great for the rates we paid and the F and B and service were high level enough that we enjoyed our stay and would return.

This Hotel is by far not the newest hotel around, but there is something about it that I just really like. We stayed on the Executive Floors, which gives you access to the lounge and of course that makes a difference but well worth the extra outlay - with unlimited drinks and food in the early evening. Breakfast is also served there in the mornings. Free shuttle to and from Canton Fair if that's what you are there for - like many of the hotels there. Overall a really good business hotel. Special thanks to Zoey / Jasmine / Faye - who were all excellent and very helpful.
