My partner and I recently travelled to Taboga for a two night stay at the Verede Tropical. We had read a couple of negative reviews prior to our visit but had decided to form our own opinions as everyone's expectations are different.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, but as per previous blogs, there was an uncannying abilitiy to have "no water" in the mornings until after 10:00 am. So if a hot, morning shower is in your plan, you had best leave and return to your room later in the day.
The view from this vantage point was spectacular and we found it hard to tear ourselves away from the terrace or gazing out the windows that opened up to the waters and beach below.
The obvious shining star to this establishment was undoubtably the Chef and kitchen staff. The food was fresh, delicious and presented beautifully. Upon arrive the Chef even graciously assisted me with the luggage up the steep steps to the front door.
The few thorns amongst the roses that we did find was that the staff barely spoke or smiled. There was little to no communication between guests and host staff at all. We did not find there was unabearably long waits for service, however, we ordered a rum and orange juice and received juice only. When we finally hunted down our waitress, she apologized for the error but never did return with any rum. We left the juice and found it on our bill anyway, much to our disappointment.
The owner of the establishment was animated and friendly to people she knew and "important guests", but never made any attempt to interact or see how the average patron was doing.
Should we return we may seek other accomodations but would undoubtably return there for dinner. The Chef never did disappoint.

We went to Taboga for the day and found this very nice small hotel and restaurant. We did not see their rooms, we were told they are air conditioned, but at the time we went the restaurant was pretty hot, as they do not have any part which is air conditioned. Food is simple fare, but good. The pizzas are well made, we were surprised no hamburgers available on the menu. The best option on the island.

This quaint sidewalk hotel sits on a hill, as many buildings on Taboga do. It is a short walk from the pier, but there are several stairs to climb. The restaurant serves good food and drink; the small lobby is decorated with plants and various colored tiles, and the rooms upstairs are spacious and comfortable.

Our family stayed at Vereda Tropical Hotel for 2 nights and loved the rooms. It is a lot of steps to get the room, yet worth it. The hotel feels like it is something from the past, preserved to host guests today. Appreciate the fact that this is a small island with all supplies in the city, relying on the ferry for all needs. We were told the hotel changed one of its staff members just before we arrived, to hopefully resolve previous guests' issues. This is the exact type of accommodation my family enjoys, with great views of the ocean, ships and sky. We always have a deck of cards so if things are slow, it is a great time to break them out!
If you make advance reservations, be certain to have all details of the reservation with you.

The service is incredibly long, it was a disaster. Close to an hour for a pizzas. The server forgot our drinks and finally brought a wrong one. Would not at all recommend. The restaurant has a great view, good potential but they need to change people in charge of the service.

I am writing because can not just leave this situation the way it is.
Your hotel has a terrible attitude for the guests. Waiters working like I have to do something for them and not like they appreciate and respect the guest...
We had four meals in your restaurant and paid more then 500 dollars for it plus cost of the rooms, and me and my friends feel like we have stolen something... In the evening we had a dinner in the restaurant and we brought the bottle of vine with us and NOBODY told us about any rule in the restaurant, the waiter silently brought the glasses for us... For sure if they tell us about rule, and told that we we can drink our vine but pay for it 10 dollars (why not 30???), or just buy one from the bar, that would not be anyroblem but When we ask for the bill they just put 10 dollars for our bottle... We ask waiter why did not he told us before and there was not any answer... So we asked if we did not order the dinner can we drink our vine in the restaurant, they told we could drink our vine without any charge if we did not order, so it is better not to order for the dinner and do not let your restaurant earn money??? Then waiter told us that if we will not pay this 10 dollars he will switch off the light.. I am sorry WHAT THAT MEANS? what is a stupid childhood??? And later when we switch off the light and we were sitting in the dark they offered to pay 5 dollars!!!!!!
So in the morning we wanted to talk with owner of the hotel but nobody told us where she is... I was really upset and my friends also. In the afternoon we had lunch again in your restaurant, and told that we are not going to pay for OUR bottle of vine, so the girl from reception told us that we can not leave the restaurant if we not pay... So when we left in the street the policemen stoped us until we gave him that 10 dollars!!! We missed our ferry, my two years old daughter was crying and she had a lot of sun while the policeman talk to my husband.
It is really bad situation, and I am really unhappy with that, you ruined my holiday. I do not want to come to Taboga any more, and also if you will not do anything with that problem, I will tell everybody in panama and in the travel agencies that your hotel is not the place where they can do good relax. That is not the treat, it is just the reaction for all of this...
I am really unhappy to write such an email, but you and you stuff did not give me any other feelings...

Stayed in room #10 with my mom and boyfriend. It was clean, decorated, and the A/C worked well but we left it on all the time, which they ask not to do. It took 2 hours to cool down the room if it's left off. Service was blah. Not super friendly or helpful. The hotel overall was nice and pleasant and our stay on taboga was great, it's just the hotel is not worth more than, say, $50 (not the $90 we spent) a night or less. I've stayed in hostels with similar quality rooms and service for $10 a person.

While the hotel looks lovely on its website and is indeed attractively decorated we were very disappointed. There is a list of "rules" on each door that set the tone for our stay. They will only clean your room if you ask, including even making the bed. We didn't ask because they charged 75 cents for a beach towel. We had to go in search of toilet paper, and ice was unavailable at 5 because the owners were out in their boat with the keys. We tried one night with windows open, but the roosters kept us awake. The second night we reached up 6 feet on the wall to put the air conditioner on, slept better because it was louder than an airplane and drowned out the sounds of the roosters. Food was good, but the "breakfast included" was a continental breakfast of 3 rolls, juice, and coffee. This was priced at $3.50 on the menu, but you couldn't get a "credit" if you wanted one of the $4.00 breakfasts. We were rarely offered a greeting and got the impression we were an inconvenience. They do not offer out of season rates and we felt they nickeled and dimed us for everything.

The hotel is very charming. We loved the details of the design. The rooms were spotless and our room (#6) had an ocean view. At night we opened the French doors and slept with open windows. The breeze of the ocean for sure is superior to any A/C (which the room didn't have).

No doubt, the island is expensive and definitely not really great value. That said, Vereda Tropical appears fairly priced compared to the only other option on the island (Cerrito). We looked at both hotels and Vereda Tropical definitely has more charm.

There are not many restaurant options on the island and it appears that the restaurant owners agreed to a certain price level which is pretty high for what you get. Vereda Tropical's restaurant is pricey but in line with its island peers. Breakfast is mediocre and lunch / dinner are pretty good.

Some other reviewers complained about the service. We perceived the service as very good though. Not sure if they maybe changed some of the staff.

My friend and I ate lunch here and it took TWO HOURS for our pizza to arrive to the table. We asked about it several times and were told "Five minutes". There was no discount on our bill and no regretfulness on their part. Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!
