Just returned from a 10 day trip from Panama. We upgraded to the Plus package. The room was nice. Clean but basic. Only soap and shampoo given so take conditioner, lotion etc. Hair dryer in room, No iron but was given one after asking. Mini-bar stocked with beer/water/pop. There was also a dehumidifier in the room which made a huge difference, but it filled up very quickly.

The staff, for the most part, were very friendly. The tried to speak English as much as possible but it helps if you know a bit of Spanish.

The food in the Plus buffet was excellent. We tried most of the a la carte restaurants and they were all great. After 7 days they closed the Plus buffet for breakfast and lunch. We tried the Kontiki restaurant for breakfast and was not as good. When asked what the reason was for closing the Plus buffet they told us there were not enough guests. We saw other Plus guests going to the buffet after trying the Kontiki. They should have kept the Plus buffet open regardless of how many guests.

We booked 2 tours with the Decameron Explorer. The Panama Train and Anton Valley excursions. The Panama Train tour was over 13 hours with just over an hour spent on the train. Not worth it! The Anton Valley Tour was only slightly better but still not worth it.

Overall a good place to stay but there are many areas for improvement.

5 Minutes from the airport is very nice!

Check-in is done at the airport, you get your key (actual key) and welcome package. Once you arrive at the resort, there are bell boys and shuttles available to take you to where your room is. Depending where your room is located you are "assigned" either Lobby 1, 2 or 3. At these lobby's is where you will book your A la Carte Meals, put a deposit down if you want to have a second key to your room (we did this), and also get the key to the safe in your room. Our Room was located near Lobby 2. Wifi is available for free at the lobby's, but you can pay am additional amount to have it all over the resort.

The rooms are a little dated, but they are kept very clean, again, we aren't there to hang out in our rooms.
We enjoyed meals at the buffets and some of the a la cartes, they were all very good. The only thing we did not like, was sometimes you would make your way to one of the buffets only to be directed to another one because that one was full, minor inconvenience.

We hung out at the beach most of time, and the weather was fabulous the entire time. Always lots of life guards on duty. The bar staff was always quick, and knew how to make great drinks. Special mention to Vivianna for making the best bloody Mary's while we were there! And to Juan in Lobby 2 for making great evening drinks for us!
We did an excursion while were there, the old city and Panama Canal. What a great trip, definitely worth the money!

Reminder, this resort is very big, and built into a hill. Shuttles are available to help those with mobility issues. We did not mind the stairs or the hills.

And yes, this is Panama and everyone speaks Spanish. However, any staff we encountered could speak some english. But what better way to work on Spanish than to practice with them, and they are more than happy to engage, because they are also working on learning english. We had no problems!

Recommendations:
Every Lobby should have their coffee bar open in the mornings, Lobby 2 was never functioning.
All buffets should be open for Dinner, to avoid over crowding and being re-directed to another area of the resort.

We stayed for 7 days from Jan 27- feb 2nd, we were a group of 8 and all in our early 40s.
The negatives: This resort is geared to people looking for a quiet, laid back vacation. Lots of slow depressing music playing everywhere and nothing in terms of entertainment...no foam party, no beach party, stuff like that. And if there was stuff going on they don’t advertise it or post it anywhere. The resort is huge, it’s on a hill and there’s tons of stairs or very steep hills to climb, this isn’t necessarily a negative but definitely something to be mindful of. Majority of the staff speak no English and make no effort to make you feel welcome (I’ve never experienced this before at a resort, all the places I’ve been the staff go above and beyond to make your vacation great). Johnathan at lobby bar 3 was amazing, as well as Kelvin at the VIP pool, give these guys a raise because they do make an effort to remember your name and connect with you. The positives : very close to the airport, The resort itself is clean and grounds are very well kept, pools are lovely (especially the VIP infinity pool), rooms very clean, beds are comfy, food was really good, we all got the VIP package and I felt it was totally worth it. I would not go back as this resort is dull and boring and staff and security are very uptight and present an unwelcoming vibe. For smokers: this resort is no smoking With no designated smoking areas.

Checking in was very well organized and professional, and we were allowed to get into our room ahead of time. We had read in the reviews that the rooms were dated so we were prepared for it. However, even though the drawers didn’t close properly and the doors looked worn we found the tiled floor, the freshly painted wall color and matching curtains quite charming. We overlooked the eastern end of the property and a little island close to the shore. We were not prepared for the dimensions of this resort. Walking from our room (1511) to the restaurant for lunch took not only 10 minutes but involved a steep descent. We had to walk 96 steps down to the beach on the shortest way from our room, and getting back up was obviously worse. We understand that there is an internal shuttle service which we didn’t use. It really gets bad when it's raining, as you are exposed to the elements.
Because there were not many guests many venues were closed or opened in a revolving scheme. We had to make breakfast and lunch reservations a day in advance and the dinner reservation on the same day. The available restaurants were announced when the reservation was made.
Also the opening hours of the bars would change without notice or towel stations would be closed.
This got annoying as we never knew where we could even get a cup of coffee at certain times of the day trying to avoid going down- and uphill again.
We think that the management lacked organization skills.
Upon arrival we had received a map and instructions but unfortunately only in Spanish. We found it very confusing in the first couple of days with contradicting information especially with quite a few staff members not speaking English. Everybody was very friendly though.
All the grounds were very well kept, and we enjoyed the endless beach with the fine sand and the fact that there was plenty of space everywhere with the exception of the adult pools which either were closed or filled with a number of kids.
The restaurants looked as if they had been newly renovated and very inviting with the open seating. Breakfast and lunch were offered as buffets and rather average, so was the snack shack by the beach with quite a limited choice. We found that the dinner menus were repeated even though we ate in different restaurant during our 7 days stay. They ranged from excellent to mediocre. The selection of desserts was very limited and not attractive.
We could watch and hear the daily shows from our room. We are not interested in these performances but noticed that they had dancers for 4 nights in a row.
We wouldn’t choose this hotel in a peak season and not for 7 days, but for 3 or 4 nights it would be alright.

We were there Jan 9-Jan16, 2020. Beach is beautiful and swimming was great all week (waves were manageable). Twice we faced the white flag which means presence of stingrays and jellyfish. Luckily pools are great throughout the resort. The slides are quite rough, no one returned more than twice. We were a group of ten, including three children ages 7 to 12. Food was great at the buffet, everyone could find something they loved. I personally had fish everyday. We had À la carte three nights, Italian, Mediterranean and Steakhouse. We greatly enjoyed all three. The rooms were cleaned every day, with towels replaced, only a small sample of shampoo was provided. No big deal for us as we had brought all our personal care items. The staff did not understand English, French and even Spanish at the bars and buffet. I tried every morning to get a cup with half-milk, half-coffee but never succeeded, as an example. I realize that staff speak the language of the country, but they should not pretend understanding and then serve something different than what was ordered. I witnessed a few frustrated tourists because of this. In all we really enjoyed our vacation and everyone in our group agree to return. The only thing I really missed is lack of entertainment in the main lobby at night; a musician playing piano or guitar accompanied by a singer, or even some DJ music playing would be welcomed for folks like us who enjoy lingering in the lobby after a nice dinner.

We arrived here for a week’s stay with mixed expectations as we did our homework first. Check in was fast as this was done at the airport . The hotel is very dated but well kept and it is definitely not a 5 star hotel , it is 3.5 at best . Food was acceptable if your expectations were that this is a chain restaurant that churns out loads of repetitive food for a ton of people each day. There is nothing special about it and it’s acceptable for meals each day.

We didn’t like that there is a VIP plus section and it seems the gold bracelets which they get offers a slightly better service and drinks . The food quality was the same to be honest. For the US$20 extra per person per day , it’s just not worth it .

I can see why they cannot make it past the 3.5 star rating now. Service was quite slow and mediocre at the restaurants . Staff never smile or make eye contact unless they need to and never greet guests except for the a la carte restaurants.

Nightly entertainment was quite boring . We didn’t try the disco nor go to the movies by the beach as it’s in Spanish.

It was also disappointing that wifi wasn’t offered at the hotel except for the lobby. You could purchase wifi but again at US$20 a day for one device it seems absurd. You are better off buying a local good SIM card for US$10-20 for the week ! Don’t use Claro as it won’t work in the rooms , use Movil or MassMobil

Overall it was a satisfactory stay , would I come back again , probably not unless there was no other better choice.

Hi,
First of all, it's great that we have the opportunity to write reviews on trip advisor in order to help travellers to make decisions for vacation. I usually spend my vacation in Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and Mexico, but we decide to go tu this hotel in Panama. We pay the package in order to get ocean room view.unfortunately I get building views and I got another one after complaining. Travellers take shampoos and soap with you because when they do clean up they give you only one very small. One day they forgot to cleanour room and t was 17h, I call the reception and expecting to get someone but disaster, waiting 1h30 minute to get towel and shampoo. Food!!!!?? do not expect something WOW. They have to work on it. The price that I pay for that package it's very very expensive that the hotel offering. They have to check what going on with that hotel seriously. A lot to work on everytin they hotel. Not to recommend. I was disappointed really

This was planned to be our 19th and last vacation here, However, after four weeks being treated like “royalty” as usual and seeing all the continuous upgrades throughout the years, especially this year, we are now planning our 20th visit:
1. Management was in almost constant contact with us to ensure our enjoyment.
2. The extensive grounds are meticulously maintained daily.
3. Every year we go to this resort, it has been upgraded and improved. This year there were extensive upgrades: new tasteful furniture in all restaurants and common areas, more pathway lighting and increased staffing many with translator apps.
4. The new individual uniforms made it easy to distinguish their staffing position.
5. We had the most competent maid we’ve ever had.
6. Entertainment was more professional and enjoyable.
7. There were nets at outdoor restaurants to prevent avian diners from joining us.
8. We only ate off the resort twice during our 4 week stay because the menus and the quality of food were so good.
9. It was easier to access beach palapas because many new ones have been built.
10. The adult pool was moved to a much better central location.
11. We were pleased to see the added children’s programs.
We researched other resorts in the past, but always keep coming back for more “royal” treatment at The Royal Decameron!

The hotel was a pleasant surprise for us. The supplement for the PLUS Option is really worth it. The rooms are renovated, the mini-bar is refilled daily, the buffet restaurant is not so crowded and you have access to premium drinks at bars; also you have more privacy at the pool / beach from Plus section.
The property is huge; you have many dinning options; we really enjoyed Pesca Del Dia - very good fish options. The room with ocean view was very clean, beds are confortable. If you are 2 adl +2 kids you may ask for a room with double bed and 2 other separate beds (sofas) for the kids and they can provide this. Housekeeping came daily in the Plus Section and also the mini-bar was refilled on daily basis. Pools are clean. Beach section managed by the hotel is clean; the area in the vicinity of the sea is public and other people can come along and walk their dogs there and make some mess sometimes unfortunately. The sea has not the turquoise color like in the Caribbean but it is clean and warm.
Overall we had a great stay and I recommend the stunning sunrises over the Pacific Ocean if you can wake up early in the morning. Many thanks to Mariel and Melvin from the Guest Relations; they were really very attentive, offered us all necessary info and support during our stay.

My husband and I were part of a large group of 85 visiting Panama in January. Over half the group are musicians who voluntarily provide entertainment every two years at a southern destination. Most of us were happy with the room, restaurants and location provided but extremely disappointed regarding the treatment of our musicians. The contact person we had been dealing with was nowhere to be found and our requests for band set up were disregarded even though they knew what are requirements were well in advance. We have never experienced such frustration when we have played at other resorts. It was like they didn’t care.
The resort was nice but the service was non existent and for this reason I give this place very low marks.

Yes there is shampoo and conditioner. If you have Plus you check into Lobby 3 and is usually not busy and easy to do. This is where you can sign up for a week of a la carte meals ahead of time. A little snack bar and bar area there too. Enjoy!
