Detailed Reviews
Location is good. Walking distance to all the beaches. 1 ) The Hotel is very basic.Very good customer services. Thanks to Glendis and Hector they pick up us on the beach when we arrived from the Ferry and take us to The Hotel in a golf car .2) Very expensive food and not a good quality .We order a " Pargo Frito " cost 20 dollars and was not a good fish. I relized its was not a pargo because I eat pargo all the time .That fish was really big and the texture was really weird .I told the girl and she said it was Pargo. 3) Nothing to do her at nigh other than been biten by mosquitos or sleep. 4) They also rent a golf car for $65 dollars a day to go around the island . I think its really ridiculous to charge that amount of money .We walk around and see Deers and Nutrias.(that was nice ). I recomend to come to Contadora Island for one day or really skip this in your trip to Panama . I couldnt belive this island it was so basic with only 2 small supermarket and basic expensives restaurants. The Ferry by the way cost 98 dollars per person. To get to Conatora for this ??? in my opinion .Not worth it .I had been in Kho Phi Phi Island , Santorini , Corfu, Mikonos ,and so many other island beautiful and not so expensive . Sorry this was NOT FOR ME !!!

We were thrilled at the laid back feel and the helpfulness of Maria Jose, Marcela and Carlos. Their top priority is the comfort of their guests.
the room was very comfortable and we appreciated the fact that all the staff were willing to drive us to any nook of the island. Maria Jose organized a fantastic fishing trip for me an then even directed me to Rincon resto to prepare the incredible fish with all the fixins.
I highly recommend this place and while there, we were thrilled to hear that the ownership group will now run Villa Romantica. Keep up the great work!

We cannot say enough nice things about the Perla Real Inn and the people who run it. We were originally booked at a different place (Villa Romantica), but within hours of arriving, it was clear that it was a disaster - but that is another review. We found Perla Inn on Trip Advisor and thankfully there was a room available. Maria came right over and rescued us. What a breath of fresh air. The owner, Maria, had recently renovated the entire property. It is beautiful. Clean (rooms are spotless). Comfortable. Quiet. Right next door you will find Casa Tortuga which is hands down the best restaurant on the island. Maria, Enrique, the entire staff are incredibly nice and accommodating. Whatever we asked for, it was no problem for them. Although not on the beach, it is a small island and Perla Real has many ATVs for guest use at very reasonable rates. They will also provide beach chairs, an umbrella, and an ice chest or your excursion at no charge. Perla Real has a charming patio area where breakfast is served in the morning (included) and you can enjoy a drink in the evening. Finally, Maria's English is perfect which was a big help to these Americanos. Again, this place is terrific.and highly recommended.

+1
I wish I could upload all my photos because I have tons. To begin with this is not a hotel, not even qualifies as a motel, this is someone’s backyard with all their old junk laying around. First thing you will notice is a lack of front desk, you have to ask for your room to anyone you believe appears to work there and after making a few calls to confirm your reservation they will open the door for you.
The strong musty smell will welcome you to the room hoping the A/C will remove some of it but ha!, the remote does not work. Then you begin inspecting and find so many things broken, dirty and in bad shape that I do not know where to begin.
At this point I believed I could spend a night with broken artifacts but before going to bed I removed my daughters socks which were perfectly white when we arrived and they turn black from walking on the room. Then I realized there was dirt all over although it is hard to see as the floor is painted brown.
The photos you see on the web must be real old. This place is completely destroyed. I see photos of great looking dishes but I would not dare to have a glass of water from that kitchen.
The water! I brought my own soap, same brand I always use at home, and as I tried to shower the soap would not glide on my skin, It got stock as if I was using a solid bar deodorant leaving my skin with soap residue I could not remove with water. Some people tell me this happens when the water is not treated properly.
We stayed up all night waiting for the sun to come out and leave. If it was not in an island I would have been gone long before. I felt so
miserable taking my family there and felt afraid they would get sick from bacteria or virus.
Enough ! Please look at my photos and get the picture, and do yourself a favor: do not stay here, and if you do, please post photos so you can warn others.

Stayed 3 nights in this sh*t hole and will never recommend or return here. We’d booked through Expedia so couldn’t leave or cancel. Ended up demanding/negotiating a lower room rate with the owner who’s overseas and while her lazy onsite staff run this dump into ground. Come here at your own risk .. you have been warned!!

Let me start by saying that I am not a high maintenance traveller and I don't ask for much, but when paying a certain price for a room there are a few basic things that one should expect. I take no joy in writing a bad review, however the purpose of reviewing on Trip Advisor is to inform travelers of what to expect. It can also be used by management to improve their service and the overall quality of a guests stay in the future. I truly hope that management will read this and attempt to improve a hotel that could be great if a little attention to detail and care were given to the property as well as implementing guidelines and practices that should be followed by employees.
I will start with the good news. This hotel is located on a beautiful beach with a beautiful view. The room we stayed in was large, spacious, had great AC, had a large TV with hundreds of channels and the bed was large and comfy and it had a view of the ocean. A downside to the location of our room was that it was located on a main walkway so we chose to keep the blinds closed for privacy, thus eliminating our ocean view.
An employee by the name of Jorge, was an exceptional server/bartender who was always smiling, helpful and eager to please. A few other employees in the restaurant were great as well, although i didn't catch their names. Coffee and tea was available at all times of the day which was a plus.
Unfortunately, now the bad. When we arrived we made our way into the lobby which was a dimly lit, seemingly disorganized mess. There was nothing inviting about the state of the lobby when we arrived.
When we were shown our room we shortly discovered that we had no running water in the bathroom. We informed the front desk of this and after nothing was done for over an hour I asked again and an employee finally came and partially fixed the issue. He was able to get the water running in the shower, but was only able to "fix" one of the sinks, which was a trickle from only one faucet. This same scenario played out on our second day. No water, we had to track down people to fix the issue and once "fixed" this was the state of our bathroom plumbing for the remainder of our stay. A broken sink and a trickle of water from the other. We never received an apology or explanation, just a shoulder shrug and a chuckle. For nearly $200 a night this is beyond unacceptable. Other items in the bathroom were rusting and much like the lobby the overall feeling of the bathroom was one of neglect.
Multiple employees live on site in the hotel rooms, including the room next door to us which was occupied by a woman, her daughter and their dog. On many occasions I would walk to my room and see their door wide open with clothes strewn about and everyone, including other employees, hanging out in the room and leaving the lobby mostly unattended for the entire day. If we were lucky enough to find someone actually behind the desk at the lobby, which only happened twice in over 72 hours, getting their attention was a chore in itself. We would stand there while whoever was behind the desk was staring at there phone and we'd have to say "hola" or "excuse me" to get them to pry away from their phones. And even then we were met with blank stares, no smiling, no apology, no sense of urgency or customer service.
There seems to be no maintenance on the property. When walking around we noticed piles of trash behind buildings and in the bushes(old fading beer cans, garbage bags, styrofoam boxes, etc), leaves cover the walkways and empty glasses and coffee mugs sit in areas such as tables and railings for over 24 hours at a time.
One of the more unpleasant features of this hotel is the overwhelming smell of sewage that engulfs the property, especially the restaurant area. Where the smell comes from and what it was is a mystery that we never solved. However it smelled like human waste and it was so unbearable at times that we'd have to retreat to our room.
Upon check out I was asked by who I believe was one of the owners how my stay was which was the first time during our stay we were asked how anything was. Instead of going over the list I just detailed I told her our stay was ok and kept it short. This wasn't because I was afraid to voice my displeasure about our stay in person, but due to the fact that two people checked out ahead of me which took 25 minutes and we were running the risk of missing our boarding time for our boat back to Panama City.
Like I mentioned before, this place has potential but new management is the only way they will accomplish this. There seems to be a "who cares" attitude across the board. The property is neglected, there's trash everywhere, it smells like a sewer, the staff seems uninterested in helping or even being available to customers and if you happen to hunt one down you feel like you're bothering or interrupting them. If I was paying $40-$50 a night then I might be able to overlook some of these issues, but the fact that I paid $180 a night made the whole experience a bitter pill to swallow. With the exception of Jorge and a few other restaurant staff, the staff seems to have no direction or training which again falls directly back on the management.
I would not stay here again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

After reading all the reviews on Real Perla Inn we decided to book a few nights here. The hotel was not as clean as we had hoped. It rained heavily (as it does in Contadora) our first night and in the morning our room floor was soaked. Feral cats roamed the courtyard freely and you could not walk up the stairs without bumping shoulders with the islands biggest cricket population. The staff WAS friendly when they were around just know that they may not be around but are watching you on one of their many cameras. The Inn would likely be considered a hostel in other parts of the world and I cant say I would recommend this hotel but seeing what else was on this island it may be a safer bet. My advice to anyone would be not to go to Contadora period, beyond the beaches lie a run down, dirty and stale island long past it's best before date trying to be something is simply isn't .

We (2 couples) purchased the "Sea Las Perlas" day pass to Contadora, the ferry trip takes over 2 hours, not 1:40 as advertised and the boat was a bit crowded mostly because people bring their luggage and there is no place for it. Once you get to Contadora they take you to "Perla Real" hotel on Playa Cacique, the beach was great but the service at the hotel very bad, the owner 's attitude was very unpleasant, the lunch buffet was a 1 out of 5.
Resuming, Contadora is worth a visit but better take a plane and if you're staying overnight, stay away from Perla Real.

We had a lovely time in Contadora – we stayed in the second floor of this inn, and had a good time! The room was clean, the staff was very nice, and they arranged to take us back and forth from the ferry stop. The rate includes beach towels, chairs and umbrellas,
and a cooler you can take on your beach excursion!
The only thing that I would suggest to the hotel (and this may be because we are on an island), is the pressure in the showers – it barely reached our room in the second floor.

We stayed with friends for a few relaxing days. The facility was recently purchased by the group that owned Perla Real and is in the process of a complete remodel and upgrade. The previous owners had seriously neglected the facility and it is in need of a complete makeover. The new owners are working diligently and are concentrating on infrastructure upgrades and repairs. The food is good, as is the service. We found our room comfortable and the interior had been recently upgraded. There were a few problems, however, things are moving in the right direction. The beach is beautiful white sand and we found the ocean to be very enjoyable. We plan to return after the new owners have had a fair opportunity to improve things.
