Detailed Reviews
This charming, conveniently located bed-and-breakfast is hosted by 10 year owner Allan and staffed by Nicola a cheerful, Irish woman who has called Contadora home for 3+ years. Along with a well maintained living quarters, comfortable bed + plumbing = hot water…comes an outstanding breakfast of various combinations of fresh fruits, eggs, toast, coffee, juice. One morning during my 3 night stay, I also enjoyed Nicola’s blueberry pancakes with syrup, butter if you like…delicious!
Within a few steps of HH are 2 exceptional restaurants, Perla Real + Casa Tortuga. Perla Real is open for lunch and dinner and offers menu items from burgers to several entrees… One night I enjoyed Red Snapper grilled with garlic, spices on a generous bed of grilled vegetables! A passion fruit mousse followed, wonderful meal!
Next door is Casa Tortuga (dinner only). I’m told reservations are recommended but Sunday night I noted more “to Go” business for their highly regarded Pizzas. My Pasta Bolognese was offered as the ‘Entree of the Night’. Earlier, I enjoyed a mixed salad with fresh vegetables with a slight drizzle of olive oil + vinegar- I swear up till now the best salad I have enjoyed in Panama! Fresh baked bread lightly garnished accompanied the meal along with a satisfying wine.
I ventured to 2 beaches this weekend. One sits left of the Airport runway. The water is still with a bit of debris but no rocks to deal with when entering the water. There is a beach Bar and food service (up the hill is a market for $1 beer vs $3 at the beach). The other beach on the opposite the end of the runway (20 minute walk) is adjacent to a resort with food + drink service. This beach is better maintained, the surf is a bit stronger AND rocks protect the shore...try them both, Allan + Nicola can point you in the right direction.
Let me note, as a first time visitor here and to Panama everything is new to me and collecting any thoughts or details about my traveling plans is welcome and appreciated. Both Allan and Nicola provided some valuable info for me to plan with and this added to my peace of mind regarding the remainder of my adventures here!
Contact Allan and check out the Hibiscus House if your planning to stay overnight!

This was my second stay at Hibiscus House on Isla Contadora. The first visit was in 2017. This Bed and Breakfast is an amazing gem on an amazing island. I flew into Panama City (PTY) the night before my trip to the island and then took a cab from the airport to a hotel in Amador (about a 35 minute ride). I got up early and walked about twenty minutes to the Sea Las Perlas ferry (from Marina Flamenco) which took me over to the island in the morning. The ferry was crowded, but comfortable, enclosed and air conditioned. The owner of Hibiscus House, Allan Breadner was also on the ferry with supplies for the B&B and we had an enjoyable conversation on the two hour ride.
The disembarkment process for the ferry was a bit challenging in that it involved a steep ramp up from the dock to the pickup area. The Hibiscus House manager, Nicola picked us up at the dock and we loaded the supplies into the air conditioned SUV and headed to the house.
Hibiscus House is located close to the many beautiful island beaches and a couple of small supermarkets are well within walking distance (twenty minute walk, max). I visited both Executive Beach (twelve minutes walking from the B&B) and Cacique Beach (about ten minutes). Cacique Beach has a beach tiki bar, but it is quite expensive. There are a couple of restaurants within a six to twenty minute walk which are quite Panamanian and very reasonable in price.
I rented the Sunkissed room (the sign on the door said “Sunkiseed” which was likely a subtle lack of interpretation during the sign painting process). It had a king bed, private bath with double doors opening to the patio which stood above a tropical jungle. Everything was clean, well maintained and comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic and filling. The House has tropical charm and anything you would want for a relaxing Panamanian vacation.

The minute you walk in you feel very welcomed. This B&B has wonderful hosts who advised us on where the best beaches were, as well where the nearest and best restaurants were located. There are three really nice restaurants right down the street. The breakfast provided by hosts was great, we had local fruits, eggs, omelets, pancakes, coffee, and tea. We stayed three nights and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast every morning. It was a great way to start the day. We will be returning in the near future to enjoy this B&B and the wonderful island of Contadora

We booked an overnight stay at Hibiscus House at the tail end of our month long trip to Panama. We wanted one more adventure and chose Isla Contadora.
The B&B is lovely and serene. There are shady terraces out front and in the rear of the house which were a welcome respite from the heat. We stayed in a king room with private bathroom. The air conditioning worked well, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. There was a mini fridge which was great for storing cold water and drinks.
The BEST part of Hibiscus House was the staff, Nicola in particular. She picked us up from the ferry, gave us a quick tour of the island including some of the fascintating hisory, arranged a golf cart rental for us and answered any questions we had while we were there. She also allowed us to cool down on the terrace and do a quick change of clothes post check out, before driving us to the ferry.
We would definitely recommend staying here if you find yourself on Isla Contadora.

Excellent breakfast, quiet and good location. Nicola was a very energetic host. Hospitality was A+. Rooms were cleaned and all the appliances working.
Restaurants and main beaches are walking distance, around 10 mins. Transportation from and to the port of embarking is included. WiFi and cable TV good.
We definitely recommend this place if you want to stay on the island. Our family (3 people) stayed for 3 nights and had a good time.

We stayed there for a week and Nicola (the manager of Hibiscus) gave us the best experience ever. She’s just the friendliest and helpful person you will ever meet. Whenever we had the wish to do an activities she would have a contact for us as well as recommendations for where to eat or what to do or where the best spot is to snorkel. When it was pouring down rain she even picked us up from a beach to save us from getting wet. We strongly recommend this place and if we get the chance to visit contadora island again will stay there for sure.

Clean and comfortable accommodation, excellent home cooked breakfast (eggs/bacon one day, pancakes another, muffins another, fruit and coffee every day). Pickup/dropoff at ferry landing. Super friendly and efficient hostess (Nicola) made everything special for us (even went the extra mile to help a traveller staying at another Inn who was unable to access her room). Easy walk to everywhere although golf cart rental is available at the BNB (cheaper than commercial rates).

We spent four great days at Hibiscus House B&B on Contadora. I don’t think Disney could design a nicer, more picture-perfect island than Isla Contadora. The Hibiscus House fits into this tropical world perfectly. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the outdoor patio was our “living room’. Breakfasts were varied and excellent. Coffee was set up the night before, so first guest up in the morning could press the button. Property manager Nicola is a great hostess, as well as a fascinating world traveler! She was most helpful orienting us to the island and gave us the latest restaurant updates. She also procured rental snorkel gear for us from her friend Eileen. We had great meals at Pimiento y Sal (our favorite), Restaurante Romantico, and Angelina’s restaurants.

We had a short but excellent trip to Isla Contadora and the Hibiscus House this month. We just stayed for one night, but made it to three beaches and two restaurants. Nicola, the hostess of the Hibiscus house, is friendly and very knowledgable about the island. She gave us recommendations for which beaches to check out and provided us with some snorkel equipment from the house (highly recommend Playa Ejecutiva for the beauty, privacy, and great fish!).
