Joy Island, a name could never be more fitting for a joyful place. An island of happiness, full of activities and services for the most fun holiday in Maldives. Featuring 151 villas on the beach and in the lagoon, Joy Island is located in North Malé Atoll close from Velana International Airport, only 40 minutes away by speedboat. As a bit of background ; we booked this holiday package via Affordable Luxury Travel & were offered a free upgrade to a Lagoon villa on an all-inclusive basis .
Rates were very competitive for this new resort .
This is our second trip to the Maldives ...last time we stayed at the Riu Palace when it opened in 2019.
We are really impressed with the facilities.
Our over -water villa is extremely comfortable & well appointed throughout . The bathroom & bedroom areas both have direct access to the decking platform overlooking the sea .
Wi-fi is excellent & stable in the room & wherever you are outside .
We tend to return to the room to sunbathe after breakfast & then following lunch find ourselves a quiet spot on the beach near the Rainbow bar to take in the afternoon sunshine .
Being half way down the strip of Lagoon villas we have a little walk to the Market restaurant which is adjacent to the reception & Rainbow bar buildings .
To help out there are frequent electric carts offering lifts back & forth to your destinations if you're feeling weary from lazing about the resort !
The Market restaurant offers a wide variety of meats, fish, salads , fruits , vegetables , cold meats, pasta, rice & curry , cheeses , chips & a whole room dedicated to deserts !
Dining choices change a bit from day to day . We have found more than enough to enjoy . Serving staff are very friendly & professional here ( as everywhere on resort ).
The drinks including cocktails are well presented & of a good quality from the all inclusive menu in the Rainbow bar .
You can hire snorkelling gear including fins for the duration of your stay free of charge if all inclusive ...life jackets are in your room already .
In conclusion , a relaxing vacation in unbelievably beautiful surroundings is guaranteed here on Joy Island ,in our view.
Everything is brand new & furnishings are of a high quality in both the rooms & public areas . The resort is well laid out & feels surprisingly spacious in a good way .
The staff are great & we have Shafau as our personal "host" contactable via WhatsApp should we have any queries or wish to book activities etc . etc.
Shafau made a point of checking up on us in person whilst were settling in .Lovely guy .
My only gripe would be that smoking seems to be allowed in the Rainbow bar which is a shame as smoking is now rarely an issue we encounter inside
hotels & resorts around the World .
Perhaps management can reach a speedy & effective solution to satisfy the majority who do not smoke please !
Otherwise a perfect stay . Can highly recommend .

I spent 6 days and 6 nights with Joy Island. It wasn't my first time on the Maldives but the first time on Joy Island. The organisation of my transfer was perfect, the boat ride is about 35-40 minutes from the airport of Male to the island. I liked the drums welcoming us. Made the newcomers feel special. Staff was very attentive and friendly, starting from my host Shiyadh who organized all of my activities. I really loved my quiet beach on my villa side. They cleaned my room twice a day which was nice, the equipment is new, enough towels, I loved the shampoo! On this island there was no alcoholic beverages in the minibar provided for free, but you could order beer, cocktails, Prosecco at the bars on the beach. I loved yoga class at 7h30 with Manning, he is a great yoga teacher. Sometimes I joined as well a pool activity at 11 am with Sarah, it was fun. For the extra-activities (extra charge) I went on a snorkling tour to see the turtles with Watersports Mission Joy and it has been a great experience, the instructor has been filming and shared with us the videos of the sea life and us snorkling afterwards. The sunset tour on a speed boat was great too, we saw dolphins and we were all excited about looking them up in the ocean. The athmosphere among tourists was great, we really enjoyed it and had a lot of laugh. I went to the spa once for a Yin Yang balancing massage and even though it's a bit expensive 185$ - it was really good quality massage which helped me to relax and to slow down. The meals were great, diverse and fresh. I loved tuna steaks, lamb and fruits. Couldn't resist the various deserts as well. I didn't try out other (extra charge) restaurants on the island, The Market restaurant provided enough choice. Overall, I really loved my holiday, enjoyed every moment of it, even a rainy afternoon for a change. Would recommend it to family, couples, friends and solo travellers.

We spent two truly Amazing weeks on Joy Island as a family of 3x and would not hesitate to go back. We have already been planning on returning and we have only been back home for two weeks. We did not want to leave and would have happily stayed much longer, if we could have. Joy Island is so beautiful.
We were greeted at the Island by an Amazing Maldivian Drum welcome, hot towels and a drink, which was very welcomed after all of the travel. This was when we met our lovely Villa/Island host Sandali. She was fabulous and assisted us with any reservations, bookings, general enquiries, kept us updated with all the evening events and checked in with us to see if we required anything and was available at any time. She really did help make our holiday special, a Huge Thank you to her. We had the opportunity to stay in both a Sunset Beach Suite with pool and a Lagoon Suite with pool, both of which were exceptional.
All of the staff on the Island were so polite and welcoming, always happy to assist with anything at anytime, always so happy with genuine smiles. We unfortunately didn't get many of the staff's names but we loved Juni and her front of house team at the Market. Juni Always welcomed us for breakfast, lunch and dinner with so much warmth and happiness and would always spend time chatting with us. Bhavani the lady on the Pancakes/waffles and in the Room of Sin, again was a staff member who we spent much time chatting with. She was so sweet and she always made an effort to speak with us and our daughter was very fond of her.
Myself and my 9 year old daughter visited the Spa. The staff at the spa were so professional and gave amazing treatments. We also tried out paddle boarding which was great fun and the clear Kayak (which is chargeable).
We also paid for the floating Breakfast. This was a lovely experience.
The whole Island is kept spotless, the staff really do go out of their way to make the experience so special and they work very hard.
We look forward to returning one day and have so many wonderful memories from this holiday.

This was our seventh trip to the Maldives.
This time, we went to a newly built island, so all the facilities were very clean. In the Maldives, a butler is assigned to you as soon as you arrive, but our butler, Mr. Chiado, was very kind and we were able to communicate what we needed via LINE, and we were able to quickly respond to various questions and problems. I recommend making a reservation.
The sea on the Lagoon Villa side is crystal clear with no sand flying around! The Rose Garden (coral reef) on the east side is very beautiful and the best.
After arriving, we tried to upgrade to a room with a pool on the sunset side, but the Lagoon Villa side without a pool was closer to the Rose Garden and we could swim directly from our room, so we were right not to change rooms.
This is the first time we've been to an island with such beautiful coral reefs in the lagoon. Snorkeling in the Rose Garden is highly recommended.
Every day, there were live music performances and various events, and the efforts to keep us from getting bored were very good.
Unfortunately, there was no free alcohol in the minibar (refrigerator) in the room (canned beer was also charged), and the replenishment of drinks and coffee capsules was not very good. Compared to the all-inclusive menus on other islands, the menu was lacking. I thought it would be nice to be able to drink alcohol on the terrace of the room.
There were no toothbrushes as amenities, so we had to use our own, but later we found out that they were provided, which was disappointing. Compared to other islands in the Maldives, the water supply was not as good. The shower temperature and strength were normal.
It's a shame that there is only one restaurant, probably because it's not a very big island. As a Japanese person, I can't recommend the food compared to other islands.
There were few types of fruit, and few that were ripe and delicious. There were days when I felt that there was nothing I could eat as a Japanese person, so I wish there was a more conventional menu.

Our 6th visit to the maldives, each time at different all inclusive resorts.
Joy island is relatively new (Sept 2023) so all the facilities are brand new and everything is immaculate. We used a good amount of the facilities and were very impressed with them all. Spa, scuba diving, watersports gym etc. The dive boat is great, loads of space and not busy when we attended, we were the only two divers. The paddle boards are great, proper solid boards not the inflatable ones that a lot of resorts have, these were significantly better.
On arrival we were assigned a personal concierge, Ashraf, he was very helpful and our go to point of contact if we needed anything. He always responded quickly and efficiently.
The food here is excellent, the concept of the market restaurant is great, essentially a lot of live cooking stations, they also make their own cheese which was a real novelty and treat. Manisha at the pasta station was great, every day new dishes and the pasta always perfectly Al dente, always smiling too. A real credit to the resort. Service was also very good and Naahil looked after us for most of our stay, was always on top of drinks etc.
We stayed in a beach suite on the sunset side of the island. This is defiantly the “nicer” side with calm waters and all day sun.
The all incluse package was fairly extensive, although one odd thing was we had prosecco included at all the bars but not during meal times.
We ate the paella lunch at Palm Beach, which is a lovely setting down by the water, but it was just paella and ice cream, which sort of felt like a downgrade from the selection at the Market.
Only slight negative would be the noise from the evening entertainment carries across the water. We could hear the music in our villa and the entertainment is from 2200-0000 which would not be ideal if you wanted an early night. There are two other restaurants and we would have liked to have tried the pizzeria, but there is no credit applied from the AI package, so it just didn’t make sense to dine there when the selection was so good at the Markeyt.
Overall a really good experience at Joy, and once the island matures it will be really great.

My wife and I are in Maldives for the second time and Joy for the first time. Getting from Malé to the island for 30 minutes by boat is a big plus. We were greeted by a Russian-speaking guide-Maral with proseco and thanks to her we did not lose an hour on the island, always answered our questions on the messenger and offered unobtrusive programs, a special thanks to her! On the island +1 hour to Maldives and it's a super bonus: it gets dark at 7, check in an hour early, visit an hour more on the island, we really liked this bonus. We had everything included so we limited ourselves to 5 days, BUT I'll tell you it's worth it, there shouldn't be any restrictions in paradise)) The cuisine is just on top- breakfasts, lunches and dinners are varied, gorgeous and always very delicious (tuna, beef roast optional, octopus fresh and tender, octopus, etc.) Lived in a villa without swimming pool(it is not needed)) rooms new, plumbing not killed. Looked at the location of the rooms on the island-there is a very decent and these are the rooms on the east side, there is such a steep "puddle" without waves and currents we even went to sunbathe in it a few times, and there is the west side and we didn't like it. Swallows and plain masks are free, but we took full face masks with us and didn't regret it. The tidal reef is very varied and beautiful. Be careful! From the villas along the east bank the current- this was the first time I experienced, caught a slight panic))) All kindly.

Just returned from a great 2 week family holiday to joy island. The family beach accommodation with older children (15,13& 11) was perfect as plenty of space and straight onto the white sand and clear waters! The all inclusive was limited to only buffet, this was disappointing as not obvious when booked. Buffet options were good but it did get busy at peak times. Payable beach and pizza restaurants were good as alternate options. Majority of staff are amazing and can’t do enough for you. However, the rainbow bar/pool area often was under staffed and you’d be waiting a while even to get a glass of water in the day! Watersports centre was great and plenty of activities to choose from, although all have a hefty charge (only paddle board, snorkel and kayaks were complimentary). Compared to other 5* resorts we have visited, I would say this is more 4* so if go with this in mind you will be more than happy! I’m sure as the resort is open longer they will get over any teething issues such a staff shortages. Would recommend but be aware that you’re likely to spend a lot on top to do other activities and eat Al La carte.

This resort couldn’t have been named better, our holiday was a joy!
Although this island is very different from other islands we have visited we really had a lovely time.
We had a lovely welcome on arrival , my suitcase didn’t arrive in the Maldives with me which was stressful, however the staff completely went above and beyond to put me at ease and help in so many ways which they didn’t need to as it wasn’t there fault.
We stayed in an overwater villa with pool , wow it was beautiful very elegant and well designed . The room had everything you needed , mini bar , tea, coffee . The non Alcoholic drinks are included in your AI package. Lovely toiletries, soft towels and a hairdryer. What I really liked was the walk in wardrobe very spacious and had more than enough storage. The outside area was good and the pool was a nice size. Housekeeping did a great job and always seemed to know when you went to breakfast so he could clean. I do have to point out that whatever room you book here you won’t be disappointed, I had a look in the basic room and was extremely surprised at how lovely it was.
The food was amazing and we are quite fussy. I was a little apprehensive about the thought of a market theme ,thought it might be tacky I couldn’t have been more wrong. We thought the concept was well thought out and so different from what we have experienced on other holidays. Different stations with different food themes with amazing chefs cooking the fresh food in front of you. Just going there for each meal was a great experience, the staff are just lovely it was nice to see them and have a chat.
The bar area is very nice and the drinks served are of very good quality. Some people have said the service is slow however we never had a problem. At times when it was busy the staff always acknowledged you and tried to take your order asap, it really isn’t the fault of the staff if everyone arrives at the same time.
There is something happening every night , there is a duo who are very good but were extremely repetitive. The DJ we thought was very good trying to play music for everyone’s tastes.
Some people have complained about people smoking, most people were very respectful of non smokers and as the area is open you really can’t smell it.
Had a lovely massage at the spa , a very relaxing experience in a relaxing environment.
There is a gym although quite small ,providing you go when it’s quiet you can have a good workout and look out to sea.
The island is beautiful and clean, not very green but that is because it’s new. There is plenty of beds on the beach , the pool is lovely with plenty of beds also. Don’t miss the pool party it is really good fun without being tacky.
If you’re thinking of booking this island you won’t be disappointed. The management here are probably some of the best, they are always around checking you are happy . They really do care and have a passion for what they do , this is the case for most of the staff we encountered.

It was a wonderful vacation! We rested together with our spouse from 17 to 25 November 2024. Let's start from the beginning – all guests at the island's marina are welcomed with a band of drums and applause, escorted to the reception and offered Proseco. And that's where you realize you're on vacation😊 The whole setting of the island is geared towards total relaxation, both physical and mental. Amazing staff! At The Market, where breakfast, lunch and dinner are held, you are greeted by wonderful girls! Always friendly, smiley. Ready to have a nice chat and it's always appropriate to joke. By the second day, they'd already remembered our names and greeted us by name. That's very nice. I especially want to celebrate a girl named Swastu, we parted as best friends😊. Very high-quality food, no "collapses" of food in the windows, but everything is fresh, delicious and varied. Rooms are cleaned twice a day according to a schedule, mostly during breakfast and dinner, so do not interfere. Wonderful cozy bars – Palm Beach and Rainbow with evening program. You shouldn't really need cash at all. Everything you can buy such as souvenirs, excursions just go on your room and you pay up at the end of your stay. We stayed for two weeks and tipped our waiter around $25 and then a few others around $10. You won't need anymore than $100 unless you wish to be very generous!
