Although no food is served at the premises, there is a open air food court with plenty of variety of food choices.
Extremely friendly and helpful front office staff.
Rooms are clean and practical.
Satay Zul just a 3min walk as well.
Plenty of parking.
Cons- ashtray provided in the room, smoke smell all over the corridor.

Unfortunately there’s a few things I don’t like. I don’t like the electric instant showers which offer the choice of a warm dribble or a cold flow. There’s no refrigerator to keep drinks and medication cold, no wardrobe to hang clothes , no place to put a suitcase and I don’t like the mould on the grout in the shower or the lack of secure parking.
But “hey”, I hear you say; “It’s a budget hotel. If you want all the bells and whistles you can go a couple of hundred metres back down the road, pay four times the price and stay at the Vistana.” And you’d be right. But there are two reasons, which transcend inconvenience, which mean I wont stay at the Vivo again. Neither of them are mentioned above.
The first reason I wont stay again is the smell. Part of this is apparently due to a damp problem. When we arrived at around noon on this last trip, the doors to the rooms which had been serviced were all propped open, apparently in an attempt to ventilate them. They needed it.
Worse still though, in my opinion, is that the hotel has no non-smoking rooms, so the mustiness is significantly contributed to by the stink that smokers leave behind wherever they go. Malaysia is a long way behind the rest of the world in awareness of this issue and smokers here are not generally considerate of those who do not wish to partake of personal poison. The Vivo suffers because of this and people prone to respiratory disease should look for somewhere else to stay.
But the main reason I wont stay again is one has its roots in an experience of some thirty years ago when I listened to a friend of my father’s describe the nightmare of evacuating a large modern hotel in the USA when fire broke out in the night. Guests were seized with panic as they tried to use the fire escape, some attempting to carry luggage down the stairs, people fell, were pushed and trampled, blocking the stairs and preventing panicked people from getting out. I don’t recall the death toll, but it was significant. These days I check the fire escapes.
The Vivo uses the first floor fire escape landing to park the laundry trolleys, leaving less than 600mm for clear passage. The first panicked guest who bumps into them in the dark will cause them to move and entirely block the exit. The second floor landing is almost entirely blocked by an ironing board and iron, (!). If, as is often the case, these areas are illuminated by emergency lighting only in case of a fire, someone will fall in the stair and apart from the likely injuries caused by this, block the stair for others trying to exit.
There are no fire extinguishers or sprinkler systems visible on the guest floors and the fire escape door in the second floor is propped open, greatly increasing the risk of the emergency exits filling with deadly smoke. (Its not the fire that kills most people but smoke inhalation).
So the likelihood is that, with about 50 rooms, the number of people in the hotel overnight is around 100. Some of those people are probably sleepy smokers indulging themselves in bed. If a fire begins, the emergency exits will likely fill quickly with toxic smoke and the means of accessing these exits are at least partially blocked, even before the panicked patrons try to get out of the building.
That’s why I wont stay again.
Vivo is a Latin word meaning “living”. I sincerely hope it doesn’t become a Malaysian word for dying sometime in the future.
1) Walk in rate was cheaper than all those online booking sites, it was RM120 for deluxe room (1queen and 1single). Try to call and confirm the price with the staff before you book online if you wanna safe some money.
2) Room was spacious enough, considerably clean, bed was soft and comfortable. Fridge, hangers and hairdryer provided. Aircond cold. Towels clean. Not many channels on TV. Noise level quite high cause hotel is surrounded by busy roads, but it did not really bother us much. However, the lighting in the room is quite poor, white dim lights with white walls and dark flooring, not very inviting. Water pressure in the shower is not too bad but heater is not working well. Have to turn the water really low to get slightly warm water. We spotted Some black ants at the sink area and on the reading desk.
3) Staff at reception was quite friendly but the housekeeping ladies are a bit on the rude side.
4) There are no such thing as smoking or non-smoking room in this hotel. I checked with the cleaners and double check with the reception, and both told me so. The room we were in, on the 1st floor, smelt alright when we checked in. The corridor was a bit musty but still okay. The problem came the next morning around 8am, when I was still half asleep. Somebody decided to smoke in their room and the smell sipped into our room immediately. I though someone was smoking in front of our room but there was no one. The corridor was filled with cigarette smell. We had to open the toilet window (certain rooms have no windows, do check with hotel) to get some fresh air. We packed up and left in about 30 mins.
5) If you're driving, the hotel is shop lot style, so you can park at the lots in front or around the hotel but remember to purchase parking tickets from the counter. RM0.60 per hour. 8am-5pm daily except Sunday. Hotel gives out 1 hour complimentary parking ticket. If not, you can park at the food court located behind the hotel. It's free. The staff told me that they have a security guard that make rounds there. They did take down our car number but we had a few meals at the food court, did not see anybody wearing a security guard uniform, so, go figure.
6) Check in and check out was smooth.
7) Location wise is good, but traffic in front and around hotel is pretty heavy during rush hour.
8) I don't think there's a restaurant in the hotel. Did not see one and room does not come with breakfast. Food court located behind the hotel opens for lunch and dinner. There's also a fruit shop, an egg tart shop and a few other food outlets around the food court.
All in all, with the price, it's okay for short stay but they seriously need to work on the smoking part. Non-smokers will suffer if someone starts smoking.
The room I stayed in has a queen sized bed and it is located at the corner of hotel; the view is the gas station. For a budget hotel, the room is rather spacious. Everything is clean and tidy. The pillows are surprisingly good quality pillows (not feathered pillows) so I slept pretty well. Oh, and we were allowed to checkout at 2pm the next day! So accommodating.
