The Suraya Hotel is a budget hotel on the corner of a busy street. My room was cleaner than the 4-star hotel I stayed in the night before in Johor Bahru, had good quality linens, and the best shower (complete with rainhead) I've ever had in a SE Asian budget hotel. The AC in my room (207) was individually controlled. The hotel also had an elevator. The two problems were that busy corner meant lots of auto noise because of the single-glazing in the windows and the mattress was elderly. A plus was the inexpensive food and friendly English-speaking staff at the Jelita Cafe kitty corner to the hotel. Don't expect a luxury hotel, but the Suraya did provide very good value.

Central Kuantan is not a tourist place. This hotel overlooks the main "highway" going north with heavy traffic for 24 hours. However Suraya is not bad in itself for a budget hotel, but don't expect frills or any tourism help from the staff.

Room is good, clean and quite spacious for this price. Location is supreme, in the middle of Kuantan town.
The only downside for me is at a night I stayed there, there is no hot water in the bathroom. My mistakes are for taking several hours after check-in before realizing this problem. I've contact reception but they tell that technician is not available. When I asked to change a room, they told me that all room is full (which I doubt because when I first check-in the other receptionist told me there still have several rooms to choose)
Overall it is a nice budget hotel to stay, just remember to check the bathroom first after check-in to make sure hot water is working.

We were pleasantly surprised to see the condition of the room: spacious, clean, white and red deco, hdtv and wood flooring.
Kettle and coffee provided. Wifi was strong. Non smoking floor (3rd floor) with elevator. Location is convenient walking distance to shops and restaurants.
However we were a bit disappointed with the bathroom, they were stingy with the soap and no shampoo/conditioner (the dispenser was empty).
