We stayed for one night in Hakone. The location was fairly central although if we had a time again, we probably would have booked a hotel closer to the Hakone ropeway / Lake Ashi as it had a nicer feel / vibe to the town. There were plenty of restaurants within a few mintues walk. The main bus from Odawara Station stops right outside the hotel (approx 45 mins ride). The same bus stop also takes you directly to the Hakone Ropeway (approx 15 ride). You can also walk about 5 minutes to another bus stop which takes you directly to the premium shopping outlets in Gotemba (approx 20 min ride). This was really handy given it was raining when we arrived and not appropriate for outdoor sight seeing The room was traditional ie fairly basic but very spacious. Beds were futons which I found comfortable enough. We elected to not book the room with a private bathroom although the room did have a sink and seperate toilet. This was fine for 1 night however would recommend a private bathroom if you stay for longer. We also enjoyed a private onsen which was worth the 3000 yen for 45 mins. Traditional japanense breakfast was included and was great to experience at least once. Only negative was how strict they were for the 3pm checkin when we arrived around 1pm (note that this wasn't unique to this hotel). The hotel wasn't busy yet we weren't allowed to access our room until after 3pm.

Thank you for visiting our museum. We are delighted that you are satisfied with the rooms, the food, and the hot springs. Slowly enjoy the hotel's proud "Nigori-yu" I hope it will be a wonderful memory. Hakone is exceptional as well as during the autumn leaves season, when it is cherry blossoms and fresh green. Please come again by all means in different seasons. All the staff are looking forward to seeing you and look forward to seeing you.

An absolutely incredible experience and such a relaxing getaway in Hakone. My boyfriend and I loved our stay here and would definitely stay again.

This ryokan provided a relaxing and calm atmosphere, with great rooms, incredible food, and welcoming and hospitable staff (who also spoke great English).

Getting to and from the ryokan was easy with the Hakone-Tozan bus, which drops off right in front of the ryokan, although the buses do get quite full, which can be a challenge with luggage on the very windy road up the mountain. A taxi would have likely been more comfortable but the bus is both affordable (included in the Hakone Freepass, should you choose to purchase it) and convenient.

The location was great, near a few shops as well as some nearby attractions such as the Venetian Glass Museum, and even more attractions just a short bus ride away. That being said, we didn’t see many reasons to leave the ryokan during our one-night stay, instead choosing to relax as much as we could.

Rooms were fairly spacious and comfortable, and some rice cakes and a tea setup were waiting for us in our room upon our arrival. Bedding was also relatively comfortable, although the mattresses could have used a little more padding. Rooms did not include a shower, but this was fine as the onsens downstairs were definitely a highlight of our stay.

The onsens were very relaxing and peaceful, and all faced a bamboo grove. We reserved one of the private onsens (Kaguya) which was great, and also loved the public onsens as well (which we mostly had to ourselves). We also appreciated that the onsens were open 24/7.

Meals were definitely a standout part of our experience, and the food was top notch. We reserved the Wagyu beef dinner, which came with 200g of Wagyu steak for each of us, plus crab legs/claws and the other kaiseki dishes (steamed shabu-shabu beef, sashimi, mackerel, beef stew, miso soup, and lots more). There was so much food we wondered when it would stop coming, but everything was so delicious. Portions were quite large and the Wagyu beef was quite rich, but we didn’t want to leave anything unfinished. And breakfast was equally impressive, with grilled salmon, crab miso soup, and several smaller dishes. No corners were cut and everything was extremely tasty.

We cannot recommend this ryokan highly enough! We look forward to our next Japan trip and to staying here again in the future.

The vegan meal set for breakfast and dinner was amazing so do half-board if you are vegan. The cheap room is above private bath and a bit loud do to doors opening and closing frequently so try to get third floor non budget room. This is an Onsen resort so you won’t have a shower in your room, only in the public and private baths. The private baths are $2000-3000 yen for 45 minutes but I preferred the public bath actually because there was an open air one.

We loved the experience of staying at a typical Japanese Ryokan. Half board highly recommended to sample the different foods on offer & the food was delicious. Very helpful, friendly reception staff who gave good advice how to spend our day sightseeing in the region and see the major attractions using the buses. The other staff in the hotel were also very friendly. The private onsen looking out onto the bamboo forest was brilliant & so relaxing. Public onsens, both indoor & outdoor & family onsens also an option. Easy access to buses to travel around the Hakone region using Hakone Freepass. We would stay again.

Thank you for visiting our hotel. Access from Haneda is good, and the bus stop is right in front of you so you won't get lost. It seems to be the secret of our popularity. However, what has been highly evaluated is the highly effective natural hot spring "Nigori-yu". It is recommended that you enjoy it slowly by chartering it, or enjoy it in the open-air baths for men and women. Having a yukata dinner and resting on a futon in a tatami room was also a precious memory of my trip to Japan. We are very pleased with it. If you have any questions about Japan, please come to our hotel. All the staff are waiting from the bottom of my heart.

Tired, a bit shabby and money grabbing! The check in was abrupt and bordering on hostile, we booked a room for 2, presented 2 passports (with the same last name) and were repeatedly asked if there were 2 people checking in. Pressured into buying a private onsen session (which we turned down), made to decide on the spot if we wanted dinner and breakfast we said ok to dinner. Took a short stroll around the area for around 30 minutes and decided that there were dinner options better suited to what we wanted. Told the hotel that we didn’t need the reservation anymore only to be told that dinner was already being prepared. It was 3pm for a 7pm reservation and we only made the reservation 30 minutes earlier. What a untruth to be told. We asked for the manager who never came. In the end the staff relented as it was clear we were not going to have dinner in the hotel. Rooms are aging, futons ok, road noise throughout the night. No complimentary water in the room (the first place that didn’t provide it in our entire 3 weeks trip). The hotel is definitely too far out of town, save your money and stay closer to town and one of the Ropeway Stations. Avoid!

We took the Fuyo package which comes with a spacious suite, a booking at the private onsen and dinner. The suite was traditional, but has beds and it’s own bathroom. The staff were attentive, for example bringing alternatives for dietary requirements to the omakase dinner.

I booked 2 nights here with breakfast and dinner. I had a traditional room and it was very spacious probably double the size of most rooms i have had and i have been travelling 3 weeks now.
It is easy to access 30mins on the bus from the romance train stop. The hotel staff did not speak much English but were helpful. The restaurant staff lovely. The meals were nothing short of amazing probably the best i have had so far as well. Huge dinner i struggled to finish and breakfast was good size. The onsens were stunning i used 2 private and the public one
Highly recommended to stay here. I would have liked another 2 days especially if you like to hike and museums so much to do here. Also buy Hakone free pass great value . This place is not a day trip from Tokyo. Though doable you will miss soaking up the beauty.
I do not understand some negative reviews i read at all?

One night stay while visiting Hakone. The onsen was nice, with the option to reserve private baths. Highlight was dinner. Huge variety of traditional Japanese dishes and Kobe beef that melts in your mouth. Staff was exceptionally nice and gracious. There are English speakers at the front desk.

Thank you for visiting our hotel. We are very pleased to see that you can relax in the "Nigori-yu", which is our pride. Unlike Tokyo and Kyoto, Hakone is quiet, but for that reason, I hope you can spend a time like Japan. Is it not? We are happy to enjoy the traditional Japanese hot springs, yukata, Japanese food, and the culture of the inn. Please come to Hakone again. All the staff are waiting from the bottom of my heart.

The Mount View Hakone is a ryokan that may not be very new and has slightly come of age, but manges to convince on other fields of expertise. We loved the privately bookable onsen and were particularly fond of the dinner experience that was lavish, fresh and memorable - a true highlight of every night. It was a relaxing stop: long walks, good food, no TV or other entertainment, making it the perfect getaway spot close to busy Tokyo.

After an uneventful ride in the cable car up to the ‘’volcanic’ area of Mt. Hakone there is a tourist area with shop, cafes, horse rides, shrine and things. You can purchase pictures here of Mt. Fuji as seen on a clear day because it wasn’t that when we were there. Mt. Fuji did look impressive none the less but the middle section had a cloudy sash. Depending on the wind direction though, you might get a bad egg smell from vents slightly below this viewing platform. It was potentially bad enough to prevent my wife (an asthma sufferer) from going up. Luckily our coach was waiting for us having driven up from Lake Asti where it dropped us off.
