Detailed Reviews
We are a family of 4 and stayed at Leopard Rock Hotel for the first time for 2 nights a few weeks ago, together with friends of ours and their kids. We had an amazing time. What a spectacular place this is, we were in awe from the moment we drove up the hill up to the main building.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and considering the hotel had only just opened again after the pandemic lockdown, seemed very much at ease but professional in their approach.
There is a playground for the kids, a golf course for the adults and also a beautiful outdoor pool for everyone. There is also a Safari with giraffe, gnu, monkeys and many more interesting animals in a beautiful setting.
The rooms were clean and spacious, and even though they were a little dated, this very much added to the charm of the hotel.
We had drinks at the bar, and dinner at the restaurant. There was plenty of choice on the menu and the quality was outstanding. It was beautifully cooked and all arrived at the same time.
We couldn’t recommend this place enough and we are very much looking forward to our next stay here!

Visited Leopard Rock Hotel for Christmas lunch. The braai meal offered was not so great. It was obvious they didn’t place much importance on non-resident guests, who used the club restaurant for lunch. There were a few waiters who were clearly overwhelmed and took too long to serve simple orders like soft drinks. Besides the poor lunch service, we enjoyed the rest of the day while relaxing in the gardens. The beautiful scenery, made superb by the ever-green golf course, gives the place the natural beauty and warm feeling that is good for an afternoon of chilling in the garden.

we had a lovely visit to the Leopard Rock hotel. Everything about our visit was outstanding, including the safari walk and the young men who guided us. unfortunately there was one member of the reception staff who dampened our visit (I believe her name was Clarice) she was extremely abrupt with us and refused to provide much useful information. We felt this was a real shame as she was one of the first members of staff we encountered and so set it set a dull tone. Nonetheless, the rest of the staff including our waiters were extremely polite and catered to us wonderfully.

I just had an exchange with the owner of the hotel and after reading some of the reviews he sure is rude! We tried to make a booking and it took us days to even start to understand the whole system. Maybe lets say we were dull?okay. Then we went on to call the reception who said they dont handle bookings at all and would not take my cash at the front desk as we wanted to pay in USD. On whatsapp the owner who handles bookings himaelf would reply late and still sent us to the website which we had already expressed not understanding. I complained to him that the service was very inefficient and so was he with the time he took to reply on whatsapp not even minding if i understood it or not and honestly booking a hotel room should not be that hard!! After all this hustle since we had USD cash not in the bank, we had to look for someone who had RTGS in the bank, and afterwards sent the money for the booking. Which he didnt see for hours until i had to do a whatsapp call. Only to be told he wanted to refund my money because i had complained. S. Shasha. You displayed very poor customer service today. Going all the way to calling me foolish because i told you your system is not efficient. I even thought it was a race issue because i seriously wonder if you treat foreigners the same. I can see from other reviews and on facebook that you really are rude. I would not recommend.

I am sorry that our procedures were unclear or complicated or that you found me rude. We accept USD and ZWL (RTGS). On all occasions except the Festive Season, we allow payment on arrival, hence yours must have been a Christmas Booking and required advance payment to guarantee your booking. The options for prepayment are simple - if you have local currency - you can send payment by internet banking to our bank account which we shared with you. If you have USD Cash - our bank - CBZ has multiple branches where the cash can be deposited and we accept a scan of the deposit slip. I am surprised you needed to use ZWL to pay instead of depositing the USD cash in our bank account unless you were not living in Zimbabwe at that time and unable to make such a deposit. Over the last two weeks of December (the period requiring a guarantee) - we had 1462 guests through 211 bookings staying at Leopard Rock, and as you have emphasized, I personally handled all the bookings for those guests. I'm truly sorry that we were unable to handle your booking and payment to your satisfaction, but unfortunately we have to work with limitations imposed on us by our bank's inability to process online payments.

The rooms were spacious and clean. The atmosphere was lovely, with respectful and nice staff. We even got chocolate bars every evening in our rooms. Very nice gesture. 🙂
For dinner I loved being served as I sat down (I generally dislike buffets). The only downside of this was that it took a while to be served. To even be given a menu would take a while. They can possibly consider adding more staff during the busy periods.
Other than that the stay was pleasant overall.

After returning to Leopard Rock after 20 years, I was left very conflicted. The hotel and its grounds are still magnificent and picturesque.
Myself and my family arrived unannounced, hoping to sit on the terrace and enjoy a drink. This is where the disappointment started. The staff, who were very friendly and welcoming, were unable to serve us any drinks or snacks without permission directly from the owner himself. Absolutely absurd for a hotel that is "open for bookings" and rates itself as a functioning 4-star hotel. Despite their efforts of contacting the owner for almost an hour, we left thirsty and disappointed.
We returned a day later to play golf. With zero operational golf carts, sandless bunkers and potholed greens, the once world famous championship golf course is now a tragic example of what happens when the owner doesn't maintain or invest in its upkeep. Thanks to the beautiful views, wonderful caddy (John), and fond memories of what the golf course used to be, we enjoyed our 9 holes.
The absent owner should be greatful for the resilient and loyal staff who still do their best to welcome guests despite having no autonomy to serve them.
Sadly, Leopard Rock is now nothing but a shadow of its former glory.

Thank you for sharing your experience at Leopard Rock. I am truly sorry to hear that your visit was not as you remembered from 20 years ago. As you mentioned, many things in Zimbabwe have changed over the years, and we are navigating challenging times as best we can. Regrettably, you arrived during a period when we were not serving walk-in guests due to a lack of in-house guests and network power issues. I apologize for any inconvenience this caused. Had we known of your visit in advance, we would have been delighted to make arrangements to serve you. I am, however, glad that our staff adhered to the protocols in place, as their loyalty and commitment are essential to our continued operations. The good news is that as of August, those restrictions have been lifted, and we are better positioned to welcome all visitors. Regarding the golf course, I completely understand your disappointment. The course, once a source of pride, has indeed seen better days. Unfortunately, the sand that in our bunkers found its way into various "unannounced projects" during COVID, leaving us with a difficult choice. Rather than risk losing another 42 truckloads of sand (at $2000 per load delivered), we have opted to cultivate a natural rough, though I agree that further improvements are necessary. Despite the reduced number of players supporting the course, we are committed to its maintenance and enhancement. You will also be pleased to know that we have recently acquired 16 Lithium cart battery sets, which should be arriving shortly after delays with inspections since November 2023. These will soon be in operation, allowing guests to enjoy the course more comfortably. We genuinely appreciate your feedback, as it helps us focus on areas where we need to improve. I hope that in the future, you will visit us again and see the strides we are making towards restoring Leopard Rock to its former glory.

Beautiful location for a hotel. Decent food on the menu in the restaurant, stunning golf course, decent sized pool, game park - you are sure to not run out of things to do whilst here. Feels like it may have been once very grand but standards might be slipping now. Good place to play some golf and grab some lunch though.

I’m a Zimbabwean & was in the tourism & hospitality industry for a very long time, I’ve heard and have known about the Leopard Rock for many years, now I’ve had the opportunity to visit the place and honestly it was beyond my imagination. What a wonderful place and will definitely recommend to my friend & people ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. However the front desk manager (Tariro) if I remember the name correctly is not doing the place justice, she needs to work on her attitude towards guests and improve her communication skills. At first I thought it was just to me but my wife also confirmed the same. The rest of your staff is amazing 🤩 I hope to return someday with friends & experience the beautiful Zimbabwe 🇿🇼

Dear fiveavenueh, I regret reading your displeasure regarding your perception of my character. It's notable that your first review aligns with the sentiment shared by a number of first-time reviewers that week. There are instances when guests may not be satisfied with my responses on our WhatsApp booking platform due to either a disagreement with our policies, which can differ from other hotels, or because we couldn't fulfill certain requests. In such cases, I aim to address the concerns as effectively as possible. However, I do not recall any personal or WhatsApp interactions with you during the week or month in question, a period when I was actually abroad. Leopard Rock is proud to employ over a hundred Zimbabweans. We are committed to fostering a supportive work environment and contributing positively to our local community. In a challenging job market, our contributions to the economy and community are significant. It's regrettable that negative comments, possibly driven by personal opinions or even vendettas, could potentially harm a business that works diligently to support its employees and the community. It's more concerning when such comments do not offer constructive criticism for potential guests but rather focus on a personal opinion about me, even though we have neither met or directly communicated.
