Newly renovated hotel with big rooms (but not the 70sqm as mentioned on the website, more likely 50sqm). Huge swimming pool and nice views....
But in fact, just too expensive for what you get. If you pay Western prices in Vietnam you expect western-standard hotels, which was defenitly not the case.
This was a very good hotel to Vietnam standards, but the prices were definitely not Vietnamese...

Large, clean and well maintained pool 150m long. Two large kids pools, one with pirate ship, slide and water features. Good sized rooms. Nice bathrooms. Very large bed which was 2 king singles pushed together. Despite the good things already mentioned the hotel lacks attention to detail in building construction, maintenance and cleaning. The restaurant is overpriced and it is no surprise everyone eats elsewhere. A pity for the hotel shows great promise. There is no beach at the hotel, but a sea wall to prevent erosion. If you want to swim at the beach you will have to walk out of the hotel grounds. One of the restaurants over the road from the eastern end of the hotel sometimes had very loud Karaoke at night. One night we met a fellow guest standing at the hotel entry complaining he could not sleep and had to get up early to catch a flight. The hotel offers free shuttles into Hoi An at 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 8pm…returning 30 minutes later. There are some good seafood restaurants a short walk from the hotel. Hotel staff are all friendly and try hard to please. Did not meet any of the management until we were departing. I also suggest reading the "First Impression" review by Pete134 as I agree with his comments. Our group occupied 4 rooms an consisted of 11 persons - 6 adults and 5 children. The hotel certainly deserves more than 1 star as given a reviewer recently, I have stayed in 1 star places in the past. Nor does it earn 5 stars as it claims - it has the potential to be a 5 star resort. All they need is to employ a western building supervisor to go over the hotel room by room, inspecting every nook and cranny. Then follow up by making repairs and fixing everything.

After ALL these years working and traveling in Asia - this was my FIRST adventure to the "Nam" - quoting so many great Vietnam war movies such as Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now - my all time no.1 film, and the tragicomic bittersweet " Good Morning Vietnam".

BUT - this is a hotel review and NOT my adolescence grip on all things Nam as portrayed by Hollywood!!!!

Where do I start??? I'll start with the negatives - I HAD to leave! Like seriously - that's it!

As a traveling retreat chef and owner of a Health retreat company - I'm always on the lookout for something truly breathtaking, almost magical! Something that makes your JAW just drop and mutter that American phrase - OMG!!! I'm also a very very picky...........

Upon arrival I was greeted by the smiling bellboy who whisked my luggage - and golf clubs - away whilst I was offered a delicious welcome drink and a very very FAST check in - Thailand and Bali - take note!

With over 30 years traveling, I've NEVER EVER been greeted by a GM - Mr Beat - General Manager - at check in! Beat was from Switzerland - and just made me feel at home straight away, extremely professional yet like an instant mate - unheard off! I actually chatted to Beat for about 15 minutes with regards to the property, what to see in downtown Hoi An and where the best golf courses were - the Montgomerie and the Da Nang were both a mere breezy 10-15min drive away!

But NOTHING could've prepared me for the amazing sight when I was shown my pool side room! 12/10 - simple as that!

Massive bed, even more MASSIVE bathroom, and that view across the islands, just mesmerising whilst I took a dip in the stunning private pool! I ordered room service 3 nights out of 6 - some meals and some snacks - and all were quickly prepared - yes make sure you don't go to the toilet - hot and served with the friendliest staff I've ever encountered anywhere in this big blue world!

The buffet breakfast had all the usual fare, but the side dishes did catch my eye - everything you almost could've wanted was there!

The main pool - just incredible and on the beachfront - with lots of hammocks just awaiting a bit of chillax time and getting stuck into a good book! Again pool side service was exceptional - and it was great to chat to all the amazingly well trained staff and find out a bit of the local culture and the sights NOT to be missed!

I was there in early February - so it was a balmy 26-28c every day - perfect!

The SPA - now I'm not a BIG SPA goer but it had it all - 10-12 massage rooms, 2 Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and also a manicurist/pedicurist salon as well! The fitness center was packed with the latest hi tech equipment, dumbbells and bench press machines, with views straight to the stunning pool and ocean!

I Had lunch one day at the ocean side restaurant - roasted salmon with red wine risotto - delish! The staff couldn't do enough and were genuinely intrigued and curious where I was from - it was enlightening rather than annoying like other resorts when all they want is your money at times!

The airport transfer was on time and again, GM Mr Beat fare-welled myself and we found ourselves - once again - chatting way too long about the beautiful area that is Hoi An and Da Nang. It was truly an amazing experience - also given that 2 of my best friends were staying just down the road 2km away at another 5 star hotel - however when they saw my room and the property - well cries of anguish were shouted - "WHY DIDN'T WE BOOK HERE????"....

With a new Spanish chef coming as well I can't WAIT to try once again the culinary delights on offer......Just an all round outstanding experience - Bali, Thailand - see you in another 10 years, as I've found my - hopefully hidden - genuine slice of paradise!

Mr Beat - you've truly created and molded a perfect paradise experience here!

Well... what can I say, we came here last year and it was half a disaster, and it was an absolute mistake in coming back.
I honestly would do yourself the favour in really looking elsewhere before choosing Golden Sand, to make sure that there is nothing else that takes your fancy.
We spent 8 nights at this hotel, and although the grounds are beautiful the service provided was horrific, mistake after mistake on the most simple things such as having towels supplied by the pool area?
Every time we visited the pool, not once was there a towel anywhere for us to grab, let alone any staff around to ask if one could be supplied!!
The shuttle bus runs at the most ridiculous times, and last year they actually had 8 transfer times whereas this time only 4. The shuttle goes at I think 8am, 1pm, 4pm and 8pm. Only one bus goes at these times, and with the amount of guests staying it is impossible to cater to anyone, they are almost better to not have the service.. Especially considering that every time except once something went wrong. Apparently we and the other 10 people that had been waiting 30 minutes missed the shuttle bus that never came, or we weren't booked, after confirming we were. Several times a taxi was the replacement which to me is no issue except wasting 30 minutes of my holiday out the front waiting for this service constantly.
Turn down service, which is not something I particularly care for is done irregularly. I think 3 out of our 8 nights they decided to turn down our room. It just shows their lack of organisation and being able to be persistent with small tasks.
Some of the reception lady's were Lovely, but be aware some are like sharks ready to bite you in half for asking anything, such as when is the gym open from and till? Considering every staff member has a different answer I'm not sure.
The staff member that takes care of the hotels leisure activities and water sports, he also works by the pool, I'm sorry I have not remembered his name but he was outstanding. He was so easy to talk to and always had the biggest smile on his face, he just had a bright and happy persona & was always helpful.
Tuoi, who is a lady that works at breakfast and the western restaurant is a magnificent lady. I had met her last year, she is just fabulous!! Always helpful, always smiling, so friendly and beautiful. You will be missed Tuoi!
On that note, don't eat at the restaurant.. Really? I feel like all I do is complain, but to be honest this resort drove me up the wall to insanity. The prices are expensive - worse than we pay back home, and you get your meal and the size of it is perfectly portioned for a child. Not only this but the food was not great, we ate twice and refused to go back.
Again, this was a service that had dropped tremendously since last year as we loved our meals at their restaurant on our last visit.
On another note, let's go back to the room for a moment, for those of you scared of gecko's (small lizard type creature), then this resort is not for you. Our room was crawling in geckos, and they are all I saw every where in the resort, on the stairs, walls, roof, floor, communal bathroom - this didn't bother me personally, but I can see future guests possibly being frightened, especially when they come crawling out of the drain mid way through showering..
They say no works going on at the resort, and we had these exact same issues last year. All I can say as far as I'm concerned there is always works going on. They need to invest in a lawn mower also as I felt bad sitting on my balcony watching the poor man cut the grass with a pair of scissors for hours everyday.
I could laugh reading this review back but truly, it's a disappointment and for the money, to be spent at a highly claimed '5 star resort' its really not worth it.
I don't think they realise they can't claim to be 5 star just for the resort grounds (which if complete it could be possible), but the service needs to be 5 star aswell.
Also, quick mention for good restaurants in town - Golden Moon which is just across the river and to your right ( just after the markets street) is amazinnng!!!!! The food is cheap but quality & service is impeccable! We also really enjoyed good morning Vietnam which is a Italian restaurant with an Italian owner, beautiful!

This structure is a resort, very very beautiful structure, amazing swimming Pool and looks good.
The check -In was very cold and impersonal, a very worst thing is that you need aign two policies, the 1at one it's ok but the 2nd is Ridiculous, if you lost the plasticRoom card you need pay $10...never in my life I have seen it...from this moment I undestand that this is the classic Resort (thank you for coming give me the money, bye bye.... )
Shoukd be have a Premier Garden Room, the room that I have qas a regular and normal room that you may have in any 3-4*Hotel, also without be full they give me a room conected by door to the next room..mmm...
Inside the Boiler I've found food...noodles.. no amenities was put back as Shower gel the 2 day... mmmm...
I've decided try the restaurant, the restayrant was empty, only another table of 2, I wait 30 minits for the wine that I need change 2 times, the food arrive before than the wine, the starter was worse Seafood Noodles, cheap noodles with exacly 2 prawns and 2 pieces of squid.....I didn't finish the starter and they bring the main courae that I sens back of course.... 20 seconds before that I finish the starter I hearing the "clicnnn" of a microwave... and come the main course that was re-heated in a microwave, absolutley woooorse! horrible dinner for a massive money and the beat was that I was the unique Guest in the restaurant!!!
The breakfast, 1,5hours before the Breackfast service is finish they run out of all kind of food, the food is in unsafe conditions Hot and expose, the quality of the product is very low quality, and a few more things that I gonna keep for me.
The staff need improve the Engliah because they don't undestand a basic English commands as 1Fried egg 2 fried egg... I ask for 1 they serve 2 I ask for 2 they serve 1.... pfff...
No service, no quality product, is only a expensive place without the pride to offer a exellence service

At the outset let me say that this resort is lovely. Moreover, I applaud the efforts of the housekeepers and maintenance crew in keeping maintaining the facilities. That said, the failings of this resort are a direct result of poor management, in particular the management team's total lack of concern for their customer.

It is always hot in Viet Nam, consequently the typical resort welcoming begins with cool drinks and icy towels -- but not here. Instead, we arrive to find the black clad management team standing around chatting, and scarcely noticing they have a lobby full of guest ready to check in. Moreover, while they have no drinks at the ready, they do have excuses. First, the room "is not" ready, but "it will be" ready in 30 minutes, that's fine unless 30 minutes turns in to 90+ minutes in a hot lobby with nothing to drink. When we are finally escorted to our room (notably, not the one booked and paid for) we discover the air conditioner is blowing steaming hot air. Management assures us it will start working any minute, and scampers quickly from the steaming room. Ok fine I'll just sit outside on the balcony and enjoy the breeze, except there is no furniture on the balcony. I call the front desk and ask for some. In making the request, however, I failed to specify the quality of the furniture I wanted, consequently as soon as my husband sat down in one of the chairs the seat fail thru to the floor; my mistake. After hours of waiting for the air con to kick in, I finally break down and request a room change. "Of course, no problem," is the response and a bellman comes to retrieve my luggage. I however am left me behind in the sweltering room. Calls to the front desk are unanswered, no doubt due to another pressing management meeting. 5:30 pm, I surrender and head to the front desk to see another manger. I am met with a chorus of "Yeses" and finally a confirmation that the new room is ready and surprise it's the one we originally booked with the private pool. Ok? No. You see the new room is ready except, wait for it...the air conditioner is not working right now but the manager will be right back in 10 minutes...tick tock tick tick...10 minutes comes and goes...15, 20...oh the anticipation. Drinks? Icy towels? NO, but a variety of managers parade by without a care in the world. After 40 min, we are offered a new manger and two room choices. Strangely enough one of the room choices is right next door to the original room where I sat sweating for hours. Again my mistake, I should have just catapulted myself over the balcony and used my Spider-Man skills to relocate to cooler environs. At 6:55 pm I am stretched out across a bed in an air conditioned room and all I can say is "I want to go home!"

The attitude of this resorts management team is clear "You are here, you have paid, and you cannot easily go anywhere else -- Deal With IT!"

Had booked and paid in full for our stay from 21 to 26 Sept 2017 and received an email on 19th (two days prior to our stay) and was told that the resort was closed from 24th and we had to find alternative accommodation. Was so disappointed that a) it was such late notice and we had to madly scramble and find somewhere else to stay b) the late change really affected our stay in Hoi An and we didn't enjoy it as much as it wasn't the holiday were wanted.

Also we are still waiting on our full refund as we had paid in full last April.

We were due to stay here next week (sep 26th) but were told that the resort is closed indefinitely from the 23rd of September and that we cannot be refunded our payment amount (over $2000 USD) until the legal dispute is over. I asked for more details but was just told that there is a legal issue with the resort.

Staff more than helpful once i found out but just lucky i rang to confirm. I hope they sort the issue out but too late for us - we will have to stay elsewhere (at short notice) and hope our money is refunded.

My partner and I and my family stayed over New Years for a family trip away!

The resort has everything you could need on a holiday! Great range of food at the buffet breakfast with most attentive waitstaff. The resort has a huge pool with lots of pool chairs as well as lots of beach chairs on the beach which is two steps from the pool! The weather was mild so there wasn't too many people swimming, but we enjoyed it!

We all stayed in a junior suite which were very spacious, comfy beds and nice balcony. We had a slight incident with a little leaking pipe, but we called reception and a maintenance man was in our room in two mins to fix it!!!!

The gym is very well equipped and clean. The spa is very good, quite expensive for Vietnam but it is a resort so we expected to pay that much.

We caught cabs to Hoi An town every day which works out to be less than US$5. It was easy and convenient as we could go and come whenever we wanted and there was always plenty of cabs.

The staff are all so friendly and do what they can to make sure you have a memorable stay. We also celebrated a birthday and the staff and general manager made a real effort to make her feel
special and went out of their way to ensure she had a good day!!

Overall, an awesome stay and we would highly recommend the resort- we will be back!

We booked in here for 2 nights as a treat while we are backpacking through South East Asia. Although the hotel itself and pool area and views are stunning it was badly let down by poor organisation and staff. We arrived roughly 12 noon on the first day and were told our room would be ready by 2pm, the stated check in time which was fine by us, we occupied ourselves by the pool area. However our room was not ready until closer to three pm which is disappointing. Drinks at the bar were ridiculously expensive, 2 cokes were over 5 U.S. Dollars. On the second day the turn down service took our used towels without replacing them. We highlighted this to reception at 4.30 who informed us they would be replaced immediately. When we returned to our room at 6 they still had not been replaced. We phoned reception twice and room services once, everyone promising to bring us the towels. So having been in the pool all day, we were now waiting in the room for towels that we had asked for 1.5 hours ago! I called again and was told "I have called my staff, maybe they are on the way to your room, please wait 5 more minutes". To be asked to wait for something as basic as towels in a 5 star hotel is appalling. Eventually at 7.30pm the towels arrived and we could finally shower and head out for dinner.
The shuttle service is ridiculous, we asked to book an hour before departure and it was full with no alternative offered.
Wifi is also hit and miss, not even as good as some of the 2 star places we have stayed
Also there possibly was bed bugs, and there was a cockroach in the room on the second night. Not at all what we expected for the price we paid and wouldn't stay here again.
