Anantara Hoi An Resort is frequently lauded for its exceptional service, with guests appreciating the staff's warm and personalized attention. While some reviewers find the prices steep, the hotel's prime riverside location near the old town and its scenic views often justify the cost.
The charming atmosphere and cultural experiences, alongside the clean and spacious rooms, are highlighted by many travelers. Despite some signs of wear, the amenities, including the pool and proximity to local attractions, contribute to the hotel's appeal.

We stayed here 4 nights in December 2023 in a Deluxe room with balcony. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The room has airconditioning and a fan, a minibar, a safe and a Nespresso coffee machine. There is a laundry service with reasonable costs. WiFi is very good, the bed is good and the shower is very good but it is impossible to shower without flooding the bathroom. Breakfast buffet is good. 4 bottles of drinking water are provided every day without costs. The hotel has many bicycles for guests to use. Old town is within walking distance (10 minutes) and many restaurants and shops can be found within walking distance. Due to the weather (rain) we didn’t use the swimming pool in the garden nor did we use the spa. Bring your earplugs, the rooms are very noisy. You can hear everyone outside talking and you also hear the footsteps from the room above. The mandatory diner (buffet style) on New Year’s Eve costs $250 per person, an outrageous amount but the food was excellent.

The setting of this hotel on the river and its location alongside the old town means you have the best of both worlds. Our riverside suite was generous in size, tasteful, secure and really clean. We enjoyed watching the river traffic especially from our terrace. Boat gazing was especially enjoyable at sunset while having cocktails outside the restaurant. For several nights in a row we followed cocktails with dinner. The buffet breakfast had more options than I had ever seen before. We also had pizza for lunch on day 1 in the restaurant at the front and that was good. The garden was lovely and pool very well positioned under the palm trees. They had happy hour in the afternoon and most people were just enjoying their book on their banana lounge with a cocktail or two. The grounds were not too big or anonymous which allowed for a more personalised service. Staff were very eager to please but with no pressure - we always felt relaxed. My only comment was that we were paying western prices for most things which you could have for a fraction of the price outside the hotel. Overall, if you want a stress free few days in Hoi An with just a little shopping I highly recommend this hotel.

It was the first time I had heard of it. Tourists and locals come and go on motorbikes along the road down the single road from the vicinity of Nihonbashi, and the hustle and bustle of the area is there day and night, but it is very quiet when you enter the hotel. The path beside the Tubon River is a shortcut. The on-site restrooms, other than your room, are well-cleaned, and the hand-washing area is piled with hand-wipe towels, which gives the hotel a sense of luxury. I liked the colorful plants, lotus flowers in the pond, and the atmosphere of the tropical nature. The room service I ordered online was a good choice of order and easy to understand how it worked. (Japanese) The taste of vegetables in general, not just salads, was firm and delicious. We had a tailor in the hotel and ordered two UNIQLO jogger pants-style lilacos that hadn't been released in the past two summers and they finished them overnight, which was great. We stayed for three nights, but the day we left felt lonely, and I really wanted to visit again next year.

We enjoyed four nights in pool side, ground floor balcony rooms and were thoroughly impressed with the hotel, spacious rooms and the beautiful gardens at this hotel. The staff were faultless and so considerate and polite. The hotel grounds are very well maintained and the gardens are quiet and restful and make the perfect escape from the markets and shopping which is on the street immediately outside the hotel. The old town is three minutes walk away and the river is on your doorstep. Just a beautiful pretty hotel, spacious and scrupulously clean with wonderful staff. We explored Hoi An old town during our stay and visited the markets, ate sumptuous seafood feasts on the waterfront at very low prices and even visited a tailor and had shirts and pants made to measure. Evening strolls through lantern filled streets were a highlight of our trip. Hoi An is a great Vietnam experience both for a holiday rest and for exploring Vietnamese culture. For laundry, there is a Mr Clean immediately to the side of the main entrance of the Anantara Hoi An with an overnight service at fabulous rates. Massages on the street are pretty inconsistent and although the prices were very appealing, the quality was very low. We did not find a great massage on the street but did not use the hotel spa so maybe that was better (much more expensive though) You definitely need to take a boat ride at night down the river and enjoy the lanterns and the ambience of a warm evening with soft lantern light everywhere. The vibe at night is very relaxed and the temperature much more pleasant than during the day. The food along the river at many of the restaurants is very good and the prices are cheap. Cocktails are also very affordable in the small restaurants riverside and along the streets. And definitely try the iced salt coffee, your calorie count will explode but your taste buds will be excited. Coffee in Vietnam generally was a bit disappointing but not so in Hoi An. We tried the salt coffee and the egg coffee, both very enjoyable. Bartering to buy was great fun and can be done in most shops. We would generally start under half the offer price and settle just above that, depending on the quantity purchased. eg. two shirts together for a lower price. The Vietnamese people everywhere were so polite and considerate and while English is not spoken well in most places we found generally people were very patient with us and very tolerant. Such lovely warm hearted people and very kind. A great holiday destination and a wonderful Vietnam experience.

We arrived mid/late evening on a delayed flight so were pleased to arrive and be welcomed at reception. Check in was quick and efficient and by the time we got our room our bags had arrived.
We had a room overlooking the river which is the best choice if most expensive. The hotel is larger than it appears at first sight but it doesn't feel that way. The lay out is interesting as there are no internal corridors. Access to rooms is from an outside covered walkway and on either side of your door are the room's windows. The room was a good size. A very large and comfortable bed, plenty of storage and a good size bathroom with tub and shower over. Lots of towels and plenty of hot water. The only oddity in the bathroom is the absence of any lighting over the bath/shower meaning it's a little dark.
Good aircon.
Excellent standard of housekeeping. We used the hotel's laundry service (quick and efficient) not realising with our late arrival that there are many laundries right outside the hotel with a highly competitive group bidding for your business and doubtless much cheaper.
Breakfast is an excellent buffet with lots of choice served in the upper level restaurant overlooking the river. Eggs cooked to order.
We had dinner at the riverside restaurant one evening. Nice food in a lovely location.
Great pool if not deep with very warm water.
Staff are all very helpful and eager to support. We got good service at front desk trying to reconfirm the details of our onward flight which was appreciated.
We were concerned that noise off the river might disturb us. There is a lot of activity during the day and into the evening with boat cruises. But all went quiet between 21.30 to 22.00 so all was quiet over night.
Recommended for Hoi An. The town is c10 minute walk to the market.

This is our second stay at Anantara Hoi An. The resort is located on the river minutes walk away from the entrance to the old heritage town. Bikes are complimentary or it’s an easy walk into “town” We love this resort for a number of reasons, apart from extraordinary location. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. We are greeted every time we leave our room, from the cleaners, reception staff, chefs, wait staff, pool attendants, to the grounds men. Breakfast is plentiful and offers a range to suit all diets. Special shout out to Chau, who remembered us from our previous stay. The rooms are spacious and I love the mezzanine style that separates the sleeping to the lounging. Bathrooms are large and at last.. bath sheets, not tiny towels. The pool area is divine. The pool water remains cool due to the layout of the trees and buildings. A welcome relief with the heat and humidity in August. Thank you to reception staff who allowed us an extended departure time, due to our late flights. We will return!

Family holiday. 3 night stay before taking the Vietage to Quy Nhon (and also staying at Anantara). Two rooms, one Anantara suite and other river view suite.
The hotel is located within walking distance of the old town (and the haven of almost no road traffic!).
If you can the river view rooms are worth paying the premium for, well, the river views! For younger families you may want garden views as these provide easy access to the pool.
Rooms well appointed (as you’d expect at Anantara).
Great to spend some time watching the lantern boats running up and down the Thu Bon river, which although a tad noisy when tourists start to arrive for the night market, is beautiful to watch (boats stop around 10pm).
We ate in the art cafe one night which I’d highly recommend (service was immaculate) and had drinks in the main resturant / bar another. Main resturant looks out onto the river and is lovely.
Transfers to / from the hotel and for onward travel to Vietage were all on time and well organised.
We also went on a day trip to the My Son Sanctuary that the hotel organised for us, as well as booking us a nearby tennis court for myself and my son to play at.
We’ve stayed at many Anantara properties in East Asia and the thing that keeps us coming back is the people, from the Management down - always so helpful and genuinely welcoming.
Ross (Manager) and the team extol this and we will definitely be back.

We stayed here two nights and thought it was really lovely. Check in was a breeze and we were greeted with drinks and a place to sit. Our room was gorgeous. The Anantara is next to the river and within easy walking distance to the Old Town markets and restaurants. Location was perfect. Our room was near the pool and I can say it was easily the nicest pool of any hotel we stayed in Vietnam. Additionally, it was easily the nicest breakfast buffet of any hotel we stayed in Vietnam. We weren't sure before our visit, if it was worth the strict cancellation policy, but as it turned out, I think it was. The spa was pricey and my husband got a massage elsewhere and we had our dinners elsewhere as well. Staff was super nice. They very kindly exchanged dollars for us at the desk. We enjoyed the free morning yoga. Overall really lovely.

I really wanted to like this place more…especially for the price and reputation that the brand carries. From the start, we felt very rushed by the staff at the check-in desk. While the sounding of the gong when a new guest arrives seems like a nice touch on the surface, each ring seemed to make the staff a little more frantic and a little less hospitable as they attempted to churn guests out of the reception area at lightning speed. They whipped us through the welcome speech and up to our room rather quickly and though the building is dated, the rooms are nice and somewhat recently remodeled. The complimentary breakfast was well appointed and they had an array of items that would satisfy any palate. What wasn’t satisfactory however was one of the servers promoting his cousin’s tailoring shop at breakfast, urging us multiple times to go for a visit and leaving business cards at our table. It was actually this element of salesmanship that turned me off from the property as a whole. Every interaction with a staff member seemed to either directly or indirectly lead to a sales pitch and though I respect a hustle, for 200+ dollars a night I expected a more elevated experience. I should also mention that the clientele skews on the older, white side so if you’re looking for somewhere young, diverse, and current to stay, this really isn’t your place. All in all, the Anantara just felt overwhelmingly impersonal and somewhat disconnected.
