First of all, we have to mention how incredibly nice and welcoming Luis was, it really started of our stay perfectly. The room was clean and beautiful, the bed was comfortable and breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We would return any time and highly recommend this location to any travelers.

Stayed here with husband and son over New Year. Love everything about this place. Quirky, full of art, colour, crafts, and great attention to detail. Managed brilliantly by Luis. I thought he must be the owner and was amazed to hear he was not. He is a special gem. I would be poaching him if he lived in London!

Highly recommended. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed at Colonia Suite in January and this was definitely the best part of our trip to Uruguay. Within just a short stroll from the old part of Colonia this B&B is run by Fred who speaks very good English & French and was the ideal host. Luckily we booked the Garden Balcony Suite which is spacious and has everything you need for staying several days and a huge comfy bed for an excellent nights sleep. The kichenette is decent sized so it's easy to pop out to the local supermarket and get supplies if you fancy preparing a light meal in for the day. But what made this such a special stay is that the breakfasts by Jaqui were simply the best we had in all of Uruguay! Served in the small private courtyard out back this included fresh fruit salad, European style bread rolls baked each morning, eggs and cheese and lots lots more ~ and the coffee was delicious. Colonia Suite is highly recommended and we will definitely stay there again when we return to Uruguay next year for our second visit!

We went so spend 3 relaxing days with my husband and our 2 years old daughter. I asked if, as stated in the web, we could be collected at the harbour and was told that the hotel it's only 400 m away from there. It was further.
Finidng the place wasn't easy as there are no signs on the door and the locals of the same block had never heard about it.
The place has been refurbished and decorated with extraordinary taste, as shown in the web. But our bedroom had only a split for heating and there was no heating system in the large bathroom (shower room) whatsoever. There room is too bright as there are curtains but no blinds or blackouts. The breakfast is just frugal. We don't know why they didn't make our daughter's bed.
At 11 pm the owner knocked on our bedroom's door to tell us that our daughter was disturbing other hosted. I'm the first one to recognize that our girl can have some tantrums but, that night, she was just playing and behaving herself.
If there were steps heard downstairs it could have been the expected ones of an old house. Then we learned that there wasn't anybody else sleeping downstairs but himself!
The worse was, thought, that while drying my hair with a hair dryer provided by the hotel, the cable went on fire and burnt my hand. I asked the owner for a first aid kit but told me he didn't have any. It really looked awful so we decided to go to the hospital. There, they told me it was a second degree burn. I'm 7.5 months pregnant and the staff from the Hospital was concerned about the fact that it was an electric burn.
They examined me and monitored the baby. They said all should be fine. We are still scared.
All the hotel owner did for us was saying "I feel responsible". That was it.
When doing the check out, and even though when doing the booking the hotel owner had asked me for my credit card details including the security code, only cash was accepted. I asked for a receipt but the owner said he was sorry but he did not have any. What a shame.

We were in Colonia Suite during december 2011 and it was really a fantastic choice while staying in Uruguay.
The place is defined as a B&B, but I think is quite more better than the average places under this category around the world. I say it is a unique Boutique hotel in Uruguay, with the personal touch of the owner on design furniture choice for decoration. It is a recycled antique colonial style building, with the most beautifull decoration inside.

He is in every detail, from gentle check in of guests, to the farewell, giving you many advices and even helping to prepare the nice breackfast.

It's very strategically located at three blocks from Colonia del Sacramento Port, so if you're coming from Argentina by ferry, is just perfect. There is no restaurant inside, but there many different options around, in a walking distance.

It's about 10 blocks from the historial neighbourhood, which perfect in winter and summer.

Best option in Uruguay!

Convenient location to bus station, ferry dock and old town. We stayed in the bungalow amid the garden filled with plants and flowers. We were greeted and provided with a map with location marked and the sights of oldtown marked. He then marked the location of nearby supermarkets. There is a park a block away and the location is just blocks from the river, and old town, but away from the bustle of old town. Pictures and description are accurate. Kitchen had refrigerator, hot water kettle and dishes and flatware. There were many travel booked and magazines in the bungalow and even more in the common living room. Fred was most gracious and Jacky was a great cook and housekeeper. Fred's artistic endeavors are present throughout the accommodation. Breakfast is a real highlight with a variety of offerings, including fresh fruit, tasty breads, eggs, yogurt, etc. Just the right way to prepare for a day of exploration. Recommend highly and would return should the opportunity occur in the future.

What a wonderful, and special place. I'll start by thanking Luis Cabral, the host/manager of this super special place. From the moment we walked in we felt like we were walking into a home. Luis made the check-in fast and easy so we could start enjoying our stay. The rooms are all different, all very nice. If we come again I'll choose the room Miró, on the top floor. This time we stayed at Freida Kallo room, also very nice and cozy. Our friends were in the garden room, also a gem. Nice family breakfast table. Thanks, Luis! I have recommended this place to several people already, and I know some of them will be going! Un abrazo!

I want to move in to this hotel! We stayed in the 2nd floor room with balcony and it was delightful- spacious, with ample sitting areas (would you like to enjoy your Uruguayan wine in front of the wood burning stove? On the charming balcony? At the beautiful, rustic kitchen table? take your pick), comfortable bed, everything in the kitchenette we needed to make a simple snack and breakfast, and art, plants, and artistic details everywhere. It is like staying in an artist's well-designed studio, with homey touches all around.

All of the charms found in the old city of Colonia have been beautifully placed into this wonderful boutique hotel! Fred, the owner, is welcoming and accommodating and allowed us to push our stay back one day when the ferry from Buenos Aires was cancelled last minute. The building is unique and beautiful, the walls are covered in wonderful art, there are hundreds of books to read in several languages, the patio is surrounded by a beautiful garden, the kitchen is amazing and the food is among the best in Colonia! Our bed was comfortable, the rooms are large but still cozy. I can't say enough about this place! I will always book my visits to Uruguay based on the availability of this hotel!

This was our second time staying with Senor Fred in his outstanding Bed and Breakfast. You are treated like family here, while staying in one of the four very unique and spacious rooms. The breakfast is excellent, and the setting serene.

The different rooms can accommodate any traveler, from families with kids to honey mooners, this is the perfect place in the perfect location to explore Colonia.
We will be back, again.
