Great location, friendly staff, and clean rooms. Walking distance from ferry and in heart of old town. The owners are friendly and helpful. We traveled with our 2 year old and the owners had several things on hand for children. A cot, high chair and a cabinet full of toys, puzzles, and books. I have to agree with previous posts that a room off the main foyer would be noisy, but we stayed in a room overlooking the pool and it was quiet. I would stay here again.

This hotel is the perfect place to relax in one of the most laid-back towns in this part of the world. A very nice pool in a quiet garden, with small but well-appointed rooms. The hotel offers bicycle hire, which for once sounds like a nice idea. Colonia has a remarkably low level of traffic, the majority of which moves at a surprisingly slow pace. Lots of nice little bars, cafes, restaurants and shops. An ideal place to get away from the frantic pace of Buenos Aires.

I loved this place. We were only there one night, but the place has a lovely grounds area with a small pool. We had a large room on the second floor, but it seems that the rooms on the main floor with doors onto the garden were probably nice to score. The breakfast was typical Latin American breakfast but I loved the yogurt juices they had. It was also nice to be able to order wine or beer from front desk and have it outside in the back. I also liked the location and it was generally very quiet.

I found this hotel a few blocks from the ferry. Its garden is very inviting and it’s located across the old city historical park. My room was located on the main floor and was quite noisy, the location itself is tucked away that it could be alright but I didn't seen to get a good sleep, and somehow my light was turned on magically in the middle of the night. Breakfast as in most hotels was complimentary, so was the internet. I only stayed one night as I was doing a day trip from BA. I didn’t find the staff very open but I did enjoy the little time that I did spend in the backyard. There seems to a few choices in the town, I would recommend trying something else.

BEWARE if you are booking this hotel.
As the photographs and many reviews confirm, El Capullo is a beautiful building set in the perfect location to explore Colonia. However, the "standard" room for which I paid 110 dollars a night is right in the middle of the corridor / breakfast area. These type of rooms have no windows and the toilets have been added on to the very old building, which means the drainages are not very good and the bathroom smells pretty awful.
The doors are made of glass and only have one white curtain to stop the light coming in, so we were woken up at 6am every day of our stay.
The communal areas are very nice and the swimming pool and garden are lovely.
I have been to Colonia many times and my advice would be that for 110 dollars you can find a much nicer place within the historical centre.

The title tells you the best part as the posada is a half block from the church plaza and perhaps three blocks from the Rio Plata. It does have a gated car park which is entered from a different street. The place has a small green water pool (didn't ask why it was green and not blue or clear) and the area around the pool is washed off daily with a small grass sitting area next to it.

The place is not as clean as we are used to with window blinds that hadn't been dusted in years and the ubiquitous Uruguay flies at breakfast. Breakfast was complimentary and consisted of fruit, media lunas, cereal, sweets, processed ham and cheese, juice and yogurt.

The regular rooms are small and off the main corridor and have NO windows. Superior rooms, at least some, do have windows - you need to ask. We stayed in "The Loft" which is off the gravel parking area and is basically an apartment with the bed up a flight of stairs with a full kitchen and bath downstairs with the tiniest sink I've ever seen in a hotel. From the dead flies lying on the window sills and dust it appeared that it wasn't rented all that often. It has nice big windows to the street but unless you are into voyeurs the blinds have to be down all the time.

All in all it was expensive for what you get but not having to street park or hike blocks to the old city it was worth it and the loft provided lots of room. Don't forget to bargain.

Thank you very much for your detailed comments. And although I would like to apologize for your perception, I also have to point out that in 90% of cases our cleaning is a reason for congratulation by our guests. We have a total of 14 rooms, each with a detailed description of its details and its location in the building, and it is you who choose in which to stay. We try to be as transparent as possible in our posts, some read the total, others only a part. Again thanks for your comments and the time you dedicated to detail!

It was a bit too chilly to swim in the pool. Though during the day we did lounge by the pool and basked in the sun as we listened to the hotels fine tunes - I'm talking REM, the shins, all the mellow hits of my youth! The staff are incredibly kind, hospitable and friendly. One more we had an early morning bus ride to Montevideo so they laid out breakfast for us an hour earlier than the usual start time and wow what a breakfast spread! During chilly nights they also light the fire in the common area which is stocked with fun games and comfy couches to lounge. There's just no way you can be stressed out here. the entire vibe of the hotel is mellow with its cool music and serene colors of the space. It's a bit pricier than other hotels in Colonia but honestly I think it's worth it. Enjoy!

Where do I start from.. I went to Colonia to do some paperwork and was there about 4 days.
I stayed most of the time at the Inn, working remotely, hence I did extensive usage of the facilities.

Service is EXCELLENT!! People is really kind, they make you feel home and are in the details.
Facilities are simply GREAT! The Inn is at 50 mts from Colonia's old town, at 100 mts from the main Avenue of the city, and yet it is a very quiet place.

Rooms are very good too: beds are very comfortable, have LED TVs, are very clean and Internet works very well.

Breakfast is really good, all tasted like homemade food. A great place for breakfast made it even better.

In summary, an OUTSTANDING place to stay in Colonia. will definitively go back when returning to Colonia.

I really enjoyed my stay here. Great location (minutes by foot from the Buquebus terminal and from the centre of the old Town), beautiful garden, comfortable & clean rooms (with HBO in English for those who want it), gay-friendly, hearty breakfast, and friendly staff. The women working the front desk are cordial and English-speaking. Anyone who needs to hang around after checkout can store their luggage at the hotel and can use the pool & cabana. I would stay at El Capullo again in a flash. Colonia is such a breath of fresh air (literally!) after the smog of Buenos Aires - I loved it here.

One caveat: the charming owners (one Briton, one American) are looking for a buyer for their business. Too bad! Apparently family health issues are calling them back to The States. It hasn't sold yet as of the time of this writing (Feb 2014) but depending on when you read this review, you may want to confirm whether the sale was completed and whether El Capullo's charm has survived intact.

Had a very pleasant stay at El Capullo. We arrived somewhat early and were greeted by Kelly who checked us in, showed us around and let us leave our bags until our room was available.

We had a double room facing the garden, just across the swimming pool, with AC, ceiling fan, LCD TV, fridge, etc. Everything looked clean and well kept. I was somewhat taken aback to realize room had no windows, only two small panes in the door itself that could be open to let light in. It takes a bit to get used to this, but it didn´t hinder our experience. Bed was very comfortable and the shower big enough for two. I missed that lack of a bidet, though.

Outside the room, there´s a beautiful garden, with a small swimming pool, deck, and lounge area. Attention to detail is quite apparent in the way everything is carefully maintained, from the garden to the swimming pool water, etc.

A couple of nice details: We overslept one day, missing our breakfast time, and we had it delivered to the garden, at no charge. Nice touch. Also, after checking out, the young girl at the front desk told us that we were welcomed to use the facilities (garden, swimming pool, toilets) all day long, even after having checked out. Another great detail.

I would definitely stay back here when in Colonia.
