Detailed Reviews
Had a lovely stay at Lizo hotel, Kalkan is a pretty and safe place to have a holiday. Lizo has lovely views and really great food, both traditional (highly recommend the Lizo special), and is very reasonably priced. The town itself has a lot of choice for eating out but we found ourselves eating a lot at the hotel as the food was great and the atmosphere was so relaxed. It's a family run, fairly basic hotel but the price reflects that, and the air conditioning is truly excellent! Ali couldn't do enough for us, including arranging taxis, an amazing boat trip, advising on changing money, recommending some fantastic places to eat - we felt very taken care of! It's a 10-15 min walk to town and probably a £2 taxi back if you're feeling lazy, so you don't get a lot of noise but aren't too far out of the centre. Wouldn't recommend the hotel for children as there are a lot of stairs and the pool is very deep.

Ali and his family really look after you making your stay special. Ali even organised a cake for my husband on his birthday! The hotel is clean and comfortable and the air con is very effective. The rooftop terrace has wonderful views and the home-cooked food served is delicious. The location is really good as you can stroll into the centre and to the beach easily in 15 mins but you don’t get all the noise of the clubs like some of the central hotels do. Also, many people stay so high up in the hills they have to get cabs to get in and out which is not necessary at the Lizo hotel. Ali is also great fun and good company! I would highly recommend a stay at the Lizo hotel.

We came for dinner on the small rooftop restaurant (the views are incredible) and weren’t disappointed. The service was warm, attentive and honest. The menu wasn’t huge but the portions and pricing were incredible value, we all thoroughly enjoyed our food and will return next year.

Stayed at the Lizo for 2 weeks, where we have stayed before. Disappointed this time - our room wasn’t made up 7 days out of 14, bed not made, bins not emptied etc etc. it may not be a big thing for everyone but for me it’s a big part of my holiday by not having to make the bed etc. sheets changed once during a 2 week stay and clean towels twice but not well spaced - once after 2 days and the second change after a week when I asked for them. Very disappointing.

Response from Ali Ay, Owner at Lizo Hotel
Responded 27 Mar 2023
We are sorry you were disappointed with your stay with us. However, what you have said is both unfair and untrue. We are a small family business and we know that your rooms were cleaned every day as we carried this out ourselves. Bedding and towels are changed every 3 days and only more frequently when requested. You did ask us for an extra change midway and we were happy to provide you with this. Your room was immaculate everyday as we emptied the bins and cleaned the room daily. We were disappointed that you used the hotel room as an apartment not using our other facilities at all and also went against our policy of not bringing in food from outside the hotel. However we overlooked this at that time. We wish you well in a stay elsewhere next time.

Just returned from a fantastic two weeks at the Lizo Hotel. We booked for three days, but ended up staying two weeks! The Lizo Hotel is in an incredible position overlooking Kalkan bay and the surrounding mountains - the roof terrace must have one of the best views in Kalkan. Ali, Sarah and their two children, Jessie and Kaleb are such amazing hosts - they are welcoming, great fun and treat you like members of the family. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped - we were lucky enough to stay in two different seaview rooms during our stay which had the most incredible views. Most rooms have a fridge and all have air conditioning which is a must in the summer months! The pool area is brilliant, with plenty of really comfortable loungers and the pool itself is a good size and depth - we spent a lot of time in there with the kids! Breakfast is also an optional extra which I definitely recommend - traditional Turkish with products fresh from their own garden. Ali and family offer delicious lunches and dinners on the roof terrace - we had a brilliant BBQ night and some amazing sea bass and mezes - all very reasonably priced. The hotel is in a great position with just a short, downhill 15min walk into town and there are also shops and restaurants close to the hotel itself.
We definitely arrived as guests and left as friends and would wholeheartedly recommend the Lizo Hotel (and its brilliant new signage!!) to all. Unbelievable scenes, Jeff!

So glad we stumbled across the Lizzo Hotel & Terrace restaurant 14 years ago. A fabulous family run business. Always such a warm welcome when we return each year. The view from the top terrace restaurant is just WOW! Absolutely love the food, my personal favourite being the corgette fritters and fresh grilled jumbo prawns!!
We do not stay at the hotel, as a family we prefer a villa and self catering but have seen the rooms and they are really lovely.

2005 was our 2nd visit to the Lizo Pension in Kalkan (---) and hopefully we will return next year.
This part of Turkey has everything from antiquities, roman ruins, beautiful coast line, amazing views and wonderful food.
After the four hour plus flight and 2 hour plus coach trip (the only downside of the holiday), it was really lovely to be met so hospitably by Ali, Sarah, Mehmet and Gulsen???it was like coming home. We spent some time catching up whilst sitting on the delightful roof terrace, with a view to die for. We then went down town, which is a walk of about 10/15 minutes downhill which is not in any way arduous; we are both in our late ?50?s? ??? it?s a pleasant walk and after all - exercise is good for you. The first week we always walked back with no effort, when it was hotter in the second week, occasionally we took a taxi which are not expensive. There are a number of hotels near the Lizo so it is not in any way remote.
Hotel facilites.
There is a small plunge pool, which is cleaned every night and on returning from a trip or from town it is so pleasant to go for a dip and then sit and chat to other guests or just read a book and chill out. Our room was in the new block and was airy and spacious with a double bed, bed side table, dressing table, wardrobe and a lovely shower en suite. We had the most amazing view over the harbour which could be seen from the ?loo?, which became a bit of a joke! The room we had last year in the old part of the hotel also had the sea view but was a little smaller. The rooms are functional and adequate but we would advise requesting the air conditioning, for which there is a charge and is a definite bonus. The rooms are cleaned every day and fresh linen every couple of days.
The food in the Lizo we found to be absolutely superb and without trying to sound bumptious we?ve been around a bit. I pride myself in being a gourmet and have had cookery training ??. I can hear myself sounding patronising which I don?t want to be but I found Gulsen to be naturally an incredible cook in her local cuisine. I just loved her food, it is wonderful. So if you are a ?foody? like me you will love the Lizo Roof Restaurant. There are themed evenings e.g. Barbecue, Fish Night and Prawn Night and the prawns are amazing. Am I going on too much? ??. However, if you feel as we did that you ought to savour the delights of other Kalkan restaurants ?.. again you will not be disappointed. There are so many restaurants to choose from and most are extremely good. We did unfortunately find one the ?Gironda? that were perhaps trying to be too ambitious. Last year we had a wonderful evening during their opening week and were hoping that we would repeat the experience but it was not to be. It was very disappointing, we spoke to the owner but were left with the distinct feeling that we were ?one couple? in many tourists that they cater for and so, ?tough? !!! A shame because we will never go there again???? especially when there is so much competition out there. But hey, try it ?. you may be lucky.
There is a small pebble public beach which is easy to get to and cheap to hire loungers and parasols. The pretty Kaputas Beach and the famous 18 Kilometre Patara Beach are both just a bus ride away. If you want to spend a little more there are the Beach Clubs. You can take the very pleasant free ferry trip over to the Mahal Beach which we found to be both relaxing and stimulating ? the sunbathing and the swimming is wonderful. The same applies to the Kalamar Beach Club which you can get to by taxi which the Club will then pay for.
I?ve probably gone on a bit and especially as we would rather you didn?t all go because we?re trying to keep it a secret but we will be returning to the Lizo Pension in Kalkan.

There is a small pebble public beach in Kalkan itself which is easy to find and cheap to hire loungers and parasols. We would highly recommend visits to the Saklikent Gorge, the ruined city of Myra and the sunken city of Kekova. Also the markets of Fethiye and Kalkan are interesting places to get a bargain.

Hello!
Hotel does not provide towels for pool, so guests should have them.
But, if you plan to stay there nowadays, probably you will not need towels. It is quite hot in that region during this season. You will be almost dry after pool if you wait a few minutes there. In addition, rooms are very close to the pool.
Wish you a nice vacation there, hotel is really nice.
No sorry there aren't hair dryers in the rooms. Thank you.
If you book direct air con is included in room price. If you book package with jewel in the crown then air conditioning is charged at £3 a day.thank you!!
