Detailed Reviews
I was visiting my son at Alfred state college. I was looking for something to spend the night .I was in a budget , So it was expensive ,I spent $70 dollars.
Anyway, I liked the bathroom, was clean , and updated . the bed was ok.
No bedbugs, and blanket and bed was clean . For one night , it was ok . And I want to be closer to the college .If you look for fancy Inn this is no the one.
But , if you are in a budget and just need a bed .it will be the best . the lady is very nice (manager).😊😊

I stayed there recently for alumni weekend. It's not the greatest hotel but the people are very friendly. It's close to the campuses and easy to find. It's a college town with limited amenities! The Saxon isn't that much better to be honest and it's way more expensive. It's a good place to stay if you are on a budget and want to visit the schools or friends etc. It's pretty clean and no it's not that modern. Alfred, NY isn't exactly a hopping metropolis anyway, so it fits in very well. If you are a fussy prima dona then I don't recommend this place. You are better off at the Saxon or one of the hotels in Hornell. If you can go with the flow then this place is for you.

The person that checked me in was very very nice and explained to me an issue about the room. When I made the reservation and told this lady I was traveling alone she cut me a deal on my room. The room itself at first glance was great minus the lack of accessible electrical outlets. I sat on the bed and felt like I was in heaven since it was super soft. As the weekend went on I noticed several things wrong with the room. There was a hole in the wall by one bed and wall paper was peeling. I can deal with the cosmetic stuff. Then I checked the bathroom, it like the room at first glance appeared to be ok then I noticed the tub and was told I needed to leave the water run to get hot water. The internet was super slow. Next time I travel I may stay there soloy based on the service and not the room.

What a dump! The 1st thing I did was look for bedbugs. The room needed paint to get rid of the ground in dirt on the walls and trim. The tile ceiling was in need of replacing as it was starting to fall in and to get rid of the water stain. The floor you could have falling through if not for the carpet. They must have had bad water damaged at some time or another and never fixed. The microwave was at one time white but now is a lovely yellow; inside was left over spaghetti sauce. If there was another hotel that was not full I would have gone there. Never again.

If newly renovated means they glued rubber baseboard to the bathtub in a lame attempt to hide the mildew and mold, then you bet its been "renovated". The place is scary inside-we found a steak in the freezer that I'm sure had thawed and spoiled as the whole room smelled bad. We bought spray to kill the smell, but when we opened the frig and found the culprit, we called the desk- which I had to do from my cell phone as the phone in the room seemed to be just a prop. The women washing the linen was folding it outside on a picnic table that was filthy. I kept moving a rank garbage can away from our door but it kept finding it's way back. What a disappointment- and why we we expect any less in a "college" town than anywhere else?

In all my life this was the absolute worst motel considering we paid $80 for this dump. I couldve accepted all the bad things about the room. What topped itto off was my fiance waking up to bug bites all over his face and body. It didnt have a shower head. Water kept going ice cold to scolding hot. The towels looked like cleaning rags and the curtains dont cover all the window. I would never suggest even taking an animal there.

This is a family owned business. The mother and daughter are very nice and attentative. However, the amenities are very poor. We had to stay in Alfred, NY for one week. The rooms are NOT newly renovated as stated in the local advertisement circulars. There are stains on the mattresses, unfinished plywood baseboards, stains in the drop ceilings. The furniture looks very cheap; as if they were picked up curbside on garbage collection day. You have to bring everything you will possibly need. I suggest that you bring your own pillows, sheet, toiletries, iron, etc.). Act as if you're going camping. On the last day of our stay the sewer backed up into the bathtub around 5 in the morning. The stench was unbearable. We had to gather all of our belongings and place them in the car. Thankfully, we never unpacked because there was no closet and as mentioned before the furniture was undesirable. We had to get ready in another room located on the other side, upper level of this inn. Two days prior, in the afternoon there was very low water pressure which turned out to be that there was no running water. I notified the front desk, which I had to walk to because I was unable to reach them via phone. I was told that they were having problems with their plumbing and that they called a plumber to rectify the problem. I believe that we should have been informed of this problem in order to plan accordingly. I found that their communication/ customer satisfaction ability was very limited. The father seems to be the head of this operations and he seems to have the final say. His English skills also seem very limited (he speaks Urdu). Therefore it was difficult to convey what was going on with our stay to him. He came across as a take it or leave it type of person. We stayed at this location because we weren't planning on being in the room other than to sleep. Needless to say we slept fully clothed and regretted staying at the Economy Inn.
I visited several rooms including the house and apartments for rent and they are all in need of renovations. My recommendation is to pay extra money and book early in order to get a reservation at the Saxon Inn, located right on AU's campus. I hope that the daughter will be able to utilize her future education in hotel hospitality/ management and transform her family's inn to a less seedy and more pleasant establishment. I wish them well. However, as for you my fellow traveler, be warned if you are considering a stay in this establishment. My husband and I were extremely disappointed with our stay at the Economy Inn.

On finding the Saxon Inn full on a recent visit to the area we opted for this, a property once well-known as the Squirrel's Nest. At one time it was a reasonable place to stay for parents and others visiting Alfred, but sadly it has deteriorated to the point where I would not want to return (and I've been willing to put up with a lot).
A mother and daughter team are attempting to keep this place going and are only marginally successful. The property looks neglected and in places abandoned. One wing of rooms was locked up and dark and on our visit we were the sole guests. The room was tired-looking if not shabby and the mattress was downright disturbing. We did not sleep well at all, due to the musty smells and feeling of decay that pervaded the room. There were boggy spots on the floor that we tried to avoid, and mildew in the bath.
About the only good thing I can say is that the location is great if you're visiting Alfred. I think we'd've been happier in a tent, frankly, and were sorry we didn't bring one.
It's clear the folks running the Economy are struggling, but sympathy alone does not make me want to visit. I give this one a big thumbs-down.

I've never been motivated to write reviews of places I've stayed at in the past, but my experience at this inn was so positive that I feel obligated to write a short note in hopes that it will encourage more people to stay there. I arrived quite late at the inn in the midst of a snow storm, and the hotel owners were working hard shoveling to try to to keep the driveway clear of snow. I got into a conversation with them and they unexpectedly invited me in to share a delicious dinner with them. I tried to give them some homemade applesauce I had in my car in return, but they wouldn't accept it. It's rare to find people who are so warm, friendly and generous - certainly above and beyond what I was expecting when I arrived that night worn out from a night of driving in the snow. On top of that, my room was very clean and carefully maintained, and this inn was by far the cheapest around - but most importantly the owners are genuinely wonderful people!

Friends and I were the area for a Tough Mudder and could NOT have been more pleased. The lady and daughter who run it are beyond accommodating. The rooms were sparkling clean, and I know ours had recently been renovated. Beds were comfortable, Nice Continental breakfast. Haven't a single complaint and HIGHLY recommend!
