Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The only place to stay when visiting Alfred University and we have visited the university on numerous occasions and stayed here. The hotel is very comfortable especial the renovated rooms and the rooms with a fireplace. Beds and betting are comfortable, towels are new and plush, service is welcoming. There is coffee, tea and snacks served. Book early since this hotel is in high demand.

If you find yourself in Alfred, NY or near it, the Saxon Inn is a great spot to rest, and it's awesome for families with little kids. The rooms and linens are clean and spacious enough, as are the bathrooms. Included with your stay is a wonderful breakfast, good coffee, and there's a cute lobby with comfy furniture to enjoy as well. Our small kids enjoyed a hike up the local hill, treats from Terracotta coffee, and grilled cheese sandwiches at the Collegiate, all within walking distance.

Very friendly staff and a clean comfortable room. The check in/out process was very easy. The location is beautiful. I’m sure my family will by staying more often as daughter intends on starting at Alfred in the fall. Breakfast was simple with options of bagels, muffins, waffles, toast, hot and cold cereal as well as breakfast sandwiches. Coffee, hot tea or hot chocolate is available in the check in area.

We were in town for a family function and rented 4 rooms. We are all in our 50's. The place looks nice and is presentable. Our room had 2 double beds and the furniture was packed in so you could barely pass through between the desk and the wall. The rooms are outdated and the carpet is filthy. The tub didn't drain.
There is no gathering space in the hotel to sit with family (8 of us) and have a drink or something to eat and talk. The front desk person Saturday night harassed us about wearing a mask while we ate and drank in the sitting area of the lobby. We are all vaccinated, and we had our masks to use when we were not eating or drinking. We were told we could go outside and sit at the benches in front of the hotel to talk. After about 15 minutes the front desk person came out to tell us we couldn't sit outside any longer as there was someone in a room above the outside sitting area that wanted their windows open and didn't want to listen to us. We were not loud.
I have been to many places and this hotel has the worst customer service I have ever experienced, unfortunately they are the only decent place in town to stay. I really wanted to like this place but the staff made it impossible. Not once did I see the front desk staff clean or wipe down anything as people came and went. They simply harassed people about masks. The dining area was closed, breakfast was packaged pastries, muffins and undrinkable coffee.
I reported the tub not draining and the brown water coming out of the faucets. If we go again, we will stay in Hornell.

Off street parking on Alfred University Property . Convenient to this and SUNY Alfred.
Nice place. It was quiet at night and water hot on the morning. Furniture is nice but older. Rooms clean and warm in colder weather.
Continental breakfast was not so continental. Simple store bought wrapped pastry, coffee, juice and yogurt. Breakfast room is still off limits for use I would assume due to Covid although infections on this area are very low and not life threatening, and there is almost nowhere to have breakfast comfortably. Honestly for the price of the room, breakfast could have been better.

Our family of three spent the night at the Saxon Inn while visiting Alfred State College. We had the queen room with fireplace and a sleeper sofa. The room and bathroom were spacious and very clean. We did not use the fireplace since we were there for a short time but it is a nice touch in the room. The front desk check in was very easy and the clerk was friendly. Breakfast was a small grab n go due to Covid restrictions and we were able to order it the night before. We had a bigger breakfast in town at the Collegiate and it was very good. We enjoyed our short stay and we would stay again!

What a wonderful place to stay...Beautiful room, exceptional mattress and staff that accommodated every need. The inn is spotless and temperature on a snowy evening perfect. Food choices in town were also outstanding and would highly recommend if you are in the area. It sits on the campus of an oh so beautiful university. In my next life, I think I shall attend college here.

My experience at the inn was wonderful from check in to check out. My room was a deluxe double and it was roomy. The coffee bar and snacks are available 24/7. The down duvet was absolutely dreamy. I slept very well. I was next to the stairwell and did not hear anything all night. The staff was amiable and caring. My breakfast was cooked and not some factory made omelette. I didn’t want to leave.

Amy, thank you for the kind review! Our professional staff works hard to provide a clean, tranquil environment for our guests to enjoy. So we are delighted to know you had such a nice stay at the Inn. The wood-burning fireplace is a popular feature indeed, especially in this winter weather! Thanks again for taking the time to write such a lovely review. Best wishes!
