What a place! We came her at the beginning and at the end of our Safari Trip. We were amazed by the the warm welcoming of all the personal, wether it have been the persons at front desk or the waiters and waitresses or the lovely manager Hope. All in all we spent 4 nights here in Under the Shade, and in the end, we didn´t want to leave at all! Whenever we come back to Arusha, we will visit these wonderfull people and this wonderful place here!
The Under the Shade offers incredibly beautiful and clean houses that are hidden underneath wonderful trees with a little distance to each other, so you hear no sound from others. In every of all of the houses you feel blessed with an atmosphere of being surrounded by things that are devoted to good craftsmanship and a good sense of taste and style. Atmosphere is always calm, quiet and very peaceful. Sometimes we were woken up by Velvet Monkeys playing around in the trees above us. The whole Lodge feels like a wonderful groomed garden. A few meters away from the entrance is a big pool, laying nestled among beautiful flowers. So peaceful with just beautiful birds (superb starlings and others) around.
The restaurant with its nearby garden and meadow offers good food and several places to sit inside or outside. There you can spent your days sitting nearby the open fire, watch birds around and listen to the sound of Africa.
People working in the Cafe and Restaurant are extremly friendly. You won´t go away from there. Thanks to Joseph, Micheal and all the others!
The most beautiful experience has been the contact to Hope, who brought us in contact with tanzanian culture and language and while spending so much time with us! Thank you forever, Hope! You were inspiring, warm and heartly, so we all were touched deeply by your kindness but also your unbelievable engagement for the people in your community around!

To sum up: if you want to share moments of true tanzanian experience with your family visit Under the Shade!!

It is true there are still some problems to solve. The proper menue are not issued and this create confusion but the food it is absolutely amazing and a part from the normal chicken that you can buy everywhere in town... the portions are very very generous and with a nice mixture of tastes.
The welcoming is nice and the staff is friendly so you can excuse some of the mistakes they are doing.
They should continue in training and improving to make sure that as guests we are happy for real and not only becuase the environment is nice and people are very very friendly... but it is surely one of the place I can recommend most.

We stayed at 5 different places during our safari in Africa, and Under The Shade was the nicest. The staff went way beyond what we expected to help make our stay a very pleasant experience. Walking around the grounds is like walking through a beautiful forest. At dinner I mentioned that the fire they had going looked good and they moved our table closer to the fire. We stayed at Under the Shade on our 2nd night of our trip and enjoyed it so much we asked our tour operator to change our last night in Africa from another place in Arusha to Under the Shade. FORTUNATELY for us, both Under the Shade and our tour operator Safari360 were able to accommodate us. If we go to Tanzania again Under the Shade will be on the itinerary.

We stayed for one night only. When we arrived there was no water in the room, then the water came but on and off, then there was no hot water ….. after two hours the problem almost solved, could have a shower with little pressure. After a very long drive from Serengeti shower was the only thing we wanted and 2 hours were hell and stressful. The manager offered us complementary dinner to apologize, but we had already a dinner reservation elsewhere. The set menu was not appealing anyway. The room itself was not welcoming, very plain and not practical. The shower didn’t have any glass, so the bathroom was soaked in water after a shower …. We had a packed breakfast because we went very early to the airport, the breakfast was not good … it is impossible to eat bacon and sausage and boiled eggs on the move. They were nice to give milk for the kids … thank you .. it was the only thing they ate. The staff (besides the manager) was not eager to help. After 10 days in the Serengeti without mosquito bits …. We woke up in this lodge full on bits … during the night we could ear the mosquitoes around the room. They arranged a shuttle to the airport, it was an old van …. We had our travel agent to bring us another shuttle.

The hospitality from the hotel staff was extremely poor and unprofessional. We got poorly service from young lady with tattoo and very bad attitude. Arrived at lunch and the meal was delicious. All in all, we stepped in all excited but unfortunately left very disappointed with horrible services from this young lady.

After a long flight and a long road we finally arrived at this hotel. Welcomed by some hot towels and fresh drinks, we already were conquered by the place.
A staff more than perfect, smiley and helpful. The private room between the tropical trees is wonderful, spacious and fully equipped.
We are thankful to the receptionist that told us about the monkeys, we weren't expecting to see animals that close and that early in our trip, what a great encounter!
We felt at home and we wished we could have stayed longer.

This was our first stop on our 12 day honeymoon in Tanzania and it was absolutely amazing! After 20+ hours of travel we were very excited to get some rest and to enjoy a delicious meal. The staff were so friendly and went above and beyond for us, the room was clean and the bed was so comfortable and the food was outstanding!

We stayed there for 1 night and it was enought to understand the quality and good intention of this farm / garden. Our room was spacious and clean. We had lovely dinner when chef made a delicious vegetable curry.
Breakfast was also nice.
Stuff is very friendly and GM of restaurant made sure we are fully content.
Defently a place to book when passing through Arusha !

What a beautiful lodge.

Unfortunately we had less than 12 here and we just came to sleep after arriving in Kilimanjaro before heading to the Crater.

Staff were extremely welcoming. The food was delicious and we had such a beautiful room.

Extremely comfortable nights sleep
Unfortunately we couldn’t stay longer
