I stayed here in the second week of January and the first thing that struck me was the extremely well trained staff. Matt at the front desk knew area restaurants well and me and my colleagues quite enjoyed trying a one of his recommendations each day.

The hotel food bar is quite nice for casual dining. Working through some late night working sessions Amanda learnt what each one of us preferred and the rest of the week we were on autopilot. The snacks and beverages arrived individualized to taste.

I travel a lot and its not usual to find a good facility with great staff. I recommend this place and will be staying there again for sure.

I guess the dead plants in the pots by the front entrance should have been a sign.
We had to wait almost 5 minutes for Emmanual to come out 'from behind the wall' to check us in. He was pleasant enough though.
He informed us that the pool was closed due to a maintenance issue (it did not open at all during the time of our stay).
Our room was nice. There was a mini fridge that needed some dusting/cleaning around it and under it.
In the bath, I discovered there were only 2 towels and 2 washcloths for the 3 of us and there were no linens or blankets or pillows for the couch pull out. There was no answer at the front desk when I tried calling several times, so I had to walk down to get these items. When Emmanual did finally appear, again from 'behind the wall', he said there was no one to bring them up, so he told me to hold on. He went 'behind the wall' and after a bit re-emerged carrying a mound of towels, linens, blankets, and pillows and passed them off to me, as he had to check someone in. I should have made 2 trips, as I couldn't carry all of this large load without dropping things along the way.
The king bed was comfortable with clean, soft linens.
The shower was set up so you could turn the water on on one end and the shower head was on the opposite end, There were 3 bottles attached to the wall that were supposed to hold shampoo, conditioner, and body wash...they were empty. The hair dryer shut off button was broken, so it had to be unplugged to turn it off.
One evening, I went down and ordered a flatbread pizza. Justin made it. It was pretty greasy and was not how it was described on the menu.
During our stay, we also dealt with Imani at the front desk...she's wonderful!!!! Great personality:) Very helpful.
There was always plenty of parking.
Overall, this was not a bad stay by any means. This property was just not as good as other Courtyards we have stayed at.

Overall, the staff, hotel and room are great.
Suggestions:
No bath matt towel, I didn't notice the hair dryer in the closet until checking out.
Luggage cart wheel flat so very difficult to push and steer.
There's a constant high pitch humming sound I think is coming from fridge.
Shower water pressure could be better.
Peep holes in the door need the swivel cover.
Alarm clock difficult to read display.
Religious books in the night stand drawer are definitely unnecessary.
Smoke detector has a flashing light that is distracting as I am trying to fall asleep.
Toilet seat does not stay in the up position.
Even after finding a nickel to adjust fridge temp lower, it still froze my food, unless the bottom is supposed to be the freezer portion, but it's not labeled that way, so have to experiment trial and error what area gets frozen or not.
The gym was closed even though other hotels have them open.
I would stay here again, but for the price point these things should not be an issue.

First off, the hotel's restaurant is not open at all. No one told us this when we make reservations. If we would have known we would have changed hotels. Then the three that in my group start getting showers and realize there is only ONE towel in the bathroom and the body soap container mounted on the wall is completely empty. That was the first day. Now it's 8am the next morning and I've been waiting 20 minutes for someone to make coffee...... Will not stay here again.

Quick visit to U at Albany, this Courtyard was one of the hotels closest to site. Personnel was curteous and professional, hotel was clean with signs of wear - Marriott website says recently updated but that was probably a long while ago ...
Room was clean incl. bathroom and could also do with an update given the stars and price compared to nearby hotels. Had windows facing the highway but well insulated so no exterior noise. Didn't use the pool or other facilities. Complimentary WiFi is fast. Breakfast a la carte and tasty (eggs, bacon, toast, pickled tomatoes yumm), made fast and served in the little area near the lobby.

We were in the area for a funeral, so we were busy (and tired) -the beds are comfortable (firm) and we slept great. The rooms are nice. Small closets that back up to the kitchenette area but there's nothing you can do about that. The shower is spectacular. Never ran out of hot water. No tub for those that want a soak. A microwave in the room was a pleasant surprise, along with the fridge and coffee maker. My biggest concern was the breakfast (Bistro area). I just wanted some basic items but the menu was more eclectic for my taste-more like a Starbucks selection. There's a Dunkin Donuts next door. There's also a gas station on the other side, which was handy. I had a few issues but the staff quickly resolved them. I ended up giving feedback to the manager and he emailed back and appreciated my reaching out.

This hotel is right across from SUNY Albany's menacing campus. It is budget-friendly, our room was nice. There's a pool and a fitness room which is great. The temperature in the room was excellent and we were able to control it well throughout the weekend. Love the small touch that you can turn on the shower before stepping in. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of parking. Right next to a Dunkin and a 7/11, which is convenient.

No extra amenities here. No extra pillows, blankets, etc. That's fine, but some of the amenities we were supposed to have were also missing. The bottles of toiletries were almost all empty. Worse, the room clearly hadn't been cleaned—not deep-cleaned even, I mean it hadn't been vacuumed. We found a pile of nail clippings between the beds and a Q-tip in the middle of the floor. Staff was fine, the little shop beside the desk was extremely bare.

One final note, the hotel wasn't crowded, and we were given a room on the 2nd floor looking right out at the parking lot. Given there were a good number of vacant rooms we would have loved something a little quieter/more private, as people could definitely see through our windows.

We stayed with a larger group on an extremely hot weekend. The air conditioning in the rooms only work when you are in your room which is understandable but not optimal. We would leave our rooms early in the morning and not return until the evening. Most nights the temperature in the room when we returned was above 80 degrees and it never got cooler than 79 degrees. We asked to change rooms, but it never got better. The hotel lobby was a balmy 80+ degrees at all times. The pool was not working. The hotel staff's answer was "well its hot outside". Don't stay here!!!

My husband and I moved to this hotel from a neighboring one that shall remain unknown. This hotel was a very welcome change from the other one we stayed in. This hotel was clean and well maintained, with very professional staff clearly trained in customer service. The room was elegantly furnished, roomy, and very comfortable. The traveler amenities were very nice--indoor pool, small workout room, Bistro (though pretty pricey for breakfast) and a little shop for quick snacks and items you might have forgotten. Very convenient to major highways and UAlbany. Worth the price.

I recently broke my leg and using crutches to ambulate around. The front desk was quick and professional. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The shower was ideal to safely wash with a cast. The Starbucks staff was friendly and went above and beyond to serve us. Great experience.

Is there any criteria to be a courtyard Marriot?
Answer from Brian D
Ithaca, New York657 contributions205 helpful votes
Only that corporate calls it that apparently. One would assume it needs to have a courtyard, but apparently a small seating area along the parking lot will suffice. At least it's clean.

Sorry, I cannot answer that question. In that area, Time-Warner cable does carry BBC, but I do not know if that is available at the hotel.
