This Hotel was an Ascend property that reflagged in 2016. I got here late for a one night stay. The night desk woman was very nice and efficient and had me up to my room quickly. The hotel is a little worn. My room seemed sparsely furnished. I had two closets though, if only one had hangers. The elevators are older, and they make some disconcerting noises.
Also housekeeping could use some help. I had no shampoo in my room, which of course you only realize when you're about to take a shower, and there was 3 sheets of toilet paper left on the roll. There was another roll under the sink, but it's probably the first time I've changed rolls at a hotel.
Didn't try breakfast, as I opted for some local coffee places. The mask policy seemed uneven. There was a sign asking people to wear masks and the night desk woman had one, but the guy at the front desk didn't so it wasn't really clear if those signs were old? I realize we're all over this whole thing.
I'd probably try another Marriott property next time.

We arrived on a Friday and were able to park in front of the hotel! We were then greeted at the Front Desk by the most charming young lady who checked us in and even bumped us up! We got to our room and it was HUGE!!! There was evena gas fire place! The bathroom and a whirlpool and an extra shower stall. It was super quiet all night. Oh- and it included a free and yummy all you can eat breakfast! We were there for a show at the Times Union Center. The only bad part was that there were no real restaurants that stayed open on the weekends so we ended up eating at a Subway at the corner. But the walk to Times Union Center was literally 1 1/2 blocks! We will definitely stay here again!!!!

I’ve been to a few hotels in downtown Albany but this was the first time I’d been to this one. Arriving in Albany by bus from Montreal, this hotel is within walking distance of the bus station, which was well-appreciated after a late arrival.
The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was good and complimentary. I also appreciated that I could take a lovely stroll from the hotel up to the State Capitol building—there are some handsome buildings to admire in the area.

Cleanliness is an issue. I stayed here two nights for business and felt dirty the whole time. The common spaces and elevators has food crumbs, dirt, and trash on the ground. The same trash remained every day and when I checked out so clearly they are not cleaning. The hotel gym is small but sufficient but also I have concerns about the cleanliness. There are not sanitizing wipes or anything to clean the weights/equipment. They do have a peloton but the knobs are broken so you can’t adjust the seat. The rooms themselves were seemingly cleaner than the common spaces and the beds were comfortable and bathrooms were relatively upgraded. The staff that checked me in had no idea how to swap a payment method and gave no detail into where things were located…very rude. I would call this hotel passable, at best. I’ll stay elsewhere next time I am in Albany.

This hotel was good. It was right downtown and close to the Amtrak station for my train trip. I selected a larger, city-view room. I liked how spacious it was, but there really wasn't a "city view", just a building across the street. I liked that they had a microwave and fridge in the room, and some meals in the shop I could purchase a nuke in my room. My bathroom was enormous with both a tub and separate shower. The bed was comfortable, there were plenty of outlets, and the wifi was good. I left too early for the free breakfast. The only downside I found was that it was noisy; I think there may be a bus terminal close by and there was constant roaring of engines on the street; I turned on my air conditioning fan to block it out, but if noise bothers you, bring ear plugs. I would stay here again if in Albany.

Fairfield Inns are usually of a good standard, but this one downtown was very disappointing. I booked this over other options due to a typically good breakfast. When I arrived there was a printed paper on the window saying "No Breakfast Today". Realizing things could happen like staff out, I asked what was the issue and if they were doing something for the guests like a credit to a breakfast or points for the issue. I was told "I don't know, we were just told no breakfast" and also that there was to be no compensation for this. Sorry, but breakfast was a big part of the deal of staying at this hotel, and the response was unsatisfactory.
When I showered the next morning I noticed something on the towel and found a short curly hair - not the kind you typically want to see in a bathroom, wondering if the towels were actually fresh.
The next problem was that I was still charged the 4.95 enhanced Internet fee even though I am an Elite member. I noticed this on my bill later but did not want to go through the hassle of calling the hotel and getting a review and correction for five dollars.
I suggest you skip this Fairfield and choose a different option near the city.

The first room I checked into yesterday, room 608, reeked of cigarette smoke. We went back to the lobby only to be told that there were no other rooms available. The evening clerk recalled the housekeeping manager, who had left for the day, to let her know.
Luckily, the day manager stopped by while I was waiting for assistance and though he was off the clock, he helped me get room 606, the ADA compliant room.
Here is where I am very disappointed in the Marriott Corporation and will contact them independently. The room, though not smelling of cigarettes was disgusting. Please see the attached photos of the nasty stained bed skirt (we always check for bedbugs and look at the bed skirt). In the bathroom, there is a horrendous rust stain on the interior shower handlebar going down the tile wall.
As we left for dinner, the night manager was speaking with the housekeeping supervisor. She asked if everything was okay. I showed her the photos and both she and the housekeeping manager didn't say a word. I assured them that I understood that they were working within the parameters they were given. Again, by this time the housekeeping manager was off the clock. She personally went back to my room and changed the bed skirt.
With respect to the towels, yes - there was only one threadbare towel on the towel bar in the bathroom, but in the closet, we found another set.
I cannot state enough how helpful the staff was, but - Marriott, you can do a lot better! Give them the tools necessary to create a better stay for us! Change the threadbare towels, give them to time to clean, and fix what is broken!!! I could not close the room door without twisting and holding onto the inside door handle and then the outside door handle. Remember, this is the ADA compliant room!
Thankfully, the breakfast room was stocked and clean in the morning.
I will never, ever, never recommend this location without a maintenance overhaul.

On October 5, this hotel cancelled my reservation (for Oct 25 - 27) that was initially booked in June 2024. There is a concert in town and it appears the hotel cancelled my reservation, which was booked at a relatively low rate so that they could rebook the room at a higher rate. Management claims that the hotel is undergoing unplanned renovations; however rooms remain available for booking on both sides of my previous reservation. According to various message boards, this happened to other people that also booked rooms prior to the surge. I highly suggest avoiding this property. They seem to be acutely dishonest and I would not support the hotel.

There was a hole in the bathroom wall. When I told the front desk about it (to make sure I wasn’t charged) she said “I know” as if to say it’s been there forever. The front desk also charged my card the entire fee after swiping both my card and the card of the person I was staying with. When I asked them to correct it, they someone had no record of the information and put the onus on me to get the person to pay. They are poorly managed and it’s a cheap experience.

I arrived on Sunday afternoon to find few dining options, but Briana at the front desk pointed out a couple of nearby favorites. (There's a Subway across the street that closes at 6:30pm on Sundays if you're a fan).
The fitness center is nicely equipped with a picture window view of the street below. There's a Peloton and a few treadmills, racked weights, and plenty of space!

Sorry that we missed your question previously! I do not want to leave you unanswered, though! We have a few rooms that have whirlpool bath tubs. If you'd like to book one of these, you can request an upgraded or fireplace king room when you call to reserve a room.
...an extra camera battery and memory card. You will be taking a lot of pix's.
I have no idea what you're asking. I have never stayed at a hotel that charges an "extra night" for anything. And I've been staying at hotels for over 40 years.
Hi Jay S,
